Can we close our eyes like children...

Can we close our eyes like children...

A Poem by Young Left Hand
"

for the lives lost in Newtown CT at Sandy Hook Elementary.

"

He was leaping like a lizard

he was happy as a lark

he was working on a castle

he was crazy in the dark

he was silly in the morning

he was sleepy after eight

if you asked him "hows your breakfast"

he'd tell you that" its GREAT!"

he was on his way to glory

he was on his way to pride

he was 6ix years old

this morning

this morning's when he died.

She was all about her dresses

wore a different one each day

She found a quiet place to

brush her hair far away

from where "the boys" played

She had a smile

that could melt the morning

She used words that no one knew

if you asked her how she was doing

she'd say "fine, how bout you?"

She was on her way to startum

set her eyes right to the top

She was seven years old this morning

and this mornings when it stopped

Now we're left to ask the questions

why'd it happen what's it for

If it could happen to these children...

will it happen any more?

All the questions seem so empty

all the answers go un said

can we close our eyes like children

so we dont have to see the dead?

She had a house full of teenagers

had a school full of kids

She gave her life to education

that's exactly what she did

She lived a life of love and duty

sacrificed more than we'll know

The type of person you pray for

and the kind you'd like to know

Now we're left to ask the questions

why'd it happen what's it for

If it could happen to these children...

will it happen any more?

All the questions seem so empty

all the answers go un said

can we close our eyes like children

so we dont have to see the dead?
