We are at Přemysl’s place, with him setting up the dining table for when Oumou and Ambrož come over to meet him (all of them agreed to meet up the next day). Přemysl finally finishes everything, noticing the spare time left before Ambrož and Oumou are set to arrive. He lets out a sigh of exhaustion, his eyebrows furrowing in worry. He sits on his couch, his mind elsewhere. Line 1) Přemysl’s inner thoughts: I know I shouldn’t be so hasty, expecting some contact with Theo after we parted ways yesterday, but now that some time has passed and he still hasn’t gotten back to me, I feel a lot more crushed than I thought I would be. Line 2) Přemysl’s inner thoughts: I’m not patient regarding these kinds of things, so I feel on edge, anticipating him to reach out at any moment. Přemysl checks his phone, refreshing his notifications with no new ones popping up. Line 3) Přemysl’s inner thoughts: Yet, my phone notifications are dryer than the Sahara desert. How pathetic am I right now? Přemysl rubs his temples hopelessly. Line 4) Přemysl’s inner thoughts: Talk to me, Theo. You said you’d accept me no matter what*. Keep your promise, would you? *Refer back to episode 45, lines 32"41, etc. *Shot cuts to Oumou getting ready at her place for the gathering. She glances at herself in the mirror, feeling antsy about meeting Přemysl. Line 5) Oumou’s inner thoughts: I should go over how I’m going to speak with Ambrož’s brother*. I can’t show up completely unprepared. *Remember that Oumou knows Přemysl’s real name isn’t Orlin after Ambrož told her the truth (refer back to episode 22, lines 47 and 52, etc). Oumou thinks to herself, feeling stumped. Line 6) Oumou’s inner thoughts: How should I go about speaking with him, though? I know Ambrož told me not to worry*, but I can’t help my feelings. *Refer back to episode 51, line 86. Oumou clears her throat, taking in a deep breath before she practices. She speaks enthusiastically, extending her hand out to her reflection, imagining she’s meeting Přemysl. Oumou Line 7) Hey there, Shumai! It’s so great to meet you in person! Allow me to formally introduce myself. I’m Oumou. Looking forward to our evening together! Oumou nods her head, feeling confident about her practice. Line 8) Oumou’s inner thoughts: That seems fine. I should go over it with Ambrož to see if he approves. Oumou gets a text message notification coming from her phone. She takes her phone out of her skirt’s pocket, observing that the message is from Ambrož. Line 9) Ambrož’s text message: Hey, there. Are you getting ready okay? Oumou smiles at the message, appreciating Ambrož’s wording of his statement, making him seem patient instead of immediately asking if she’s ready, seeming rash. Oumou meticulously types her message, wanting to hear Ambrož’s reasoning for his considerate patience. Line 10) Oumou’s text message: I’m ready. You could’ve knocked on my door instead of texting me. You also could’ve called. What made you decide to text? Line 11) Ambrož’s text message: I didn’t want to seem disruptive. If you’re ready, come on outside and make your way over to my car. I’m already situated there. Line 12) Ambrož’s text message: Also, make sure to grab a thick coat. You’re gonna need it. Oumou smiles at Ambrož’s text, appreciating his thoughtfulness. She replies playfully. Line 13) Oumou’s text message: Aye, Aye, Captain! I’ll be there in a jiffy. Oumou gathers her present for Přemysl, grabbing a thick coat before she exits her apartment. She spots Ambrož’s car outside, with him waving at her happily. She smiles at him giddily, feeling grateful for his presence. She makes her way over to his car, entering it cheerfully. Oumou speaks teasingly, feeling spoiled for Ambrož respecting her nonexistent boundaries. Oumou Line 14) Hey, Mister, “I didn’t want to seem disruptive.” How are you? Ambrož glances at Oumou amusingly, understanding her playful demeanor conveying a message of appreciation. He replies joyfully, glancing at the gift-bag Oumou is carrying alongside her. Ambrož Line 15) I’m doing great! I noticed you bought something. What is it? Oumou answers proudly, feeling excited that she got a gift for Přemysl. Oumou Line 16) It’s chocolate for your brother! I didn’t know what else to get him, but I knew I couldn’t arrive empty-handed. Ambrož speaks happily, feeling appreciative of Oumou’s consideration. Ambrož Line 17) He’s going to love it! He’s quite the sweet tooth. I should’ve gotten him something as well, but we’ll be late if I make a quick stop somewhere. Ambrož starts driving the both of them to Přemysl’s place. Oumou Line 18) We can gift this to him from the both of us. I'm glad he likes sweets. Ambrož Line 19) That wouldn’t be fair to you when you’re the one that came up with the idea. You can gift this to him yourself. I’ll get him back another time. Thank you for being so sweet~ Ambrož reaches for Oumou’s hand, interlocking his fingers with hers affectionately. She smiles at him tenderly. Oumou Line 20) This is the least I could do. I feel like this gathering should be held against just the two of you as brothers, so I really hope tagging along for the evening doesn’t seem too meddling. Ambrož responds reassuringly. Ambrož Line 21) Not at all. He’s the one who insisted I bring you along today. His whole thing is that the sooner you two meet, the better*. *These details weren’t explicitly written in the story. Oumou speaks anxiously. Oumou Line 22) I see. I agree with him, but I still can’t help but feel nervous, even though you told me not to be*. *Refer back to line 6 of this episode. Oumou speaks in a manner of determination. Oumou Line 23) I just really want to make a good impression on Shumai. Mind hearing what I practiced for your approval*? *Refer back to line 8 of this episode. Ambrož bursts into laughter, finding Oumou’s mispronunciation funny. Oumou glances at him in embarrassment, concluding that she mispronounced Přemysl’s name. She questions Ambrož shyly. Oumou Line 24) I’m saying his name wrong, aren’t I? I had a feeling Shumai was wrong. Isn’t that a kind of dumpling? Ambrož nods his head, smiling at Oumou in joy. He speaks informatively. Ambrož Line 25) His name is pronounced SHE-MI-SUL. It’s spelled P, Ř with a háček accent or diacritic mark; that’s actually silent in his name: E, M, Y, S, L. The z in my name also has a háček accent. Ambrož speaks reassuringly. Ambrož Line 26) I know it’s quite complicated, but you don’t need to know how to spell it. As long as you can pronounce it correctly, you’re fine. Oumou replies in a manner of confusion. Oumou Line 27) I honestly didn’t really understand your explanation just now. So, his name is SHE-MI-SUL? Did I say it right? Ambrož nods his head confirmingly. Oumou lets out a sigh of relief. Oumou Line 28) Sorry. I thought I heard you say “Shumai” over the phone yesterday*. Thank goodness you corrected me, or I would’ve called him a dumpling. *Refer back to episode 49, line 96. Ambrož grips Oumou’s hand reassuringly, speaking consolingly. Ambrož Line 29) That would’ve been cute. Don’t worry about interacting with him. I know you’ll do just fine. There’s no need to practice. Don’t sweat it. Oumou speaks in a tone of interest. Oumou Line 30) I guess you’re right. I wouldn’t want to sound robotic speaking with him. What does his name mean anyway? Ambrož answers happily, appreciating Oumou’s interest. Ambrož Line 31) His name is derived from the Czechian word “przemyślny”. It translates to clever. I feel like it suits him a lot. Oumou speaks in an intrigued manner. Oumou Line 32) How unique. Is it a common name in the Czech Republic? Ambrož answers informatively. Ambrož Line 33) I wouldn’t say so. It’s quite rare and dates back to when the Czech Republic was being ruled as a dynasty. Oumou speaks in a tone of fascination. Oumou Line 34) How cool! What about your name? What does it mean? Ambrož speaks in an explanatory manner. Ambrož Line 35) It’s kind of common in the Czech Republic, but its origin stems from Greek Mythology. Ambrož questions Oumou curiously. Ambrož Line 36) Are you familiar with what “ambrosia*” is in Greek Mythology? *Refer back to episode 1, line 14. Oumou shakes her head no. Ambrož continues elaborating. Ambrož Line 37) It’s the food in Greek Mythology that the gods would eat. It would grant immortality to anyone who would consume it. Ambrož answers dejectedly, his face expressing a dislike for his name due to his vampirism granting him that immortality. Ambrož Line 38) That’s what my name means. Immortal. Ambrož Line 39) Because my parents struggled so much to have me, they chose a name that they thought conveyed a good meaning*. *Refer back to episode 1, lines 13 and 15. Oumou answers understandingly. Oumou Line 40) I see. They gave you a great name~ Ambrož smiles at Oumou warmly, feeling reassured by her solace. He speaks curiously. Ambrož Line 41) What does your name mean? Oumou Line 42) It means “one who perseveres”. Ambrož glances at Oumou in pleasant surprise. Ambrož Line 43) That’s literally so you! Oumou replies mutually. Oumou Line 44) It is, isn't it? After continuing to talk with each other, they arrive at Přemysl's house, approaching his house’s porch. Oumou mumbles Přemysl’s name under her breath, perfecting the pronunciation. Oumou Line 45) SHE-MI-SUL, SHE-MI-SUL, SHE-MI-SUL… Ambrož squeezes Oumou’s shoulder reassuringly. Ambrož Line 46) You got it. That’s right. Ambrož knocks on Přemysl’s door, with Přemysl opening it welcomingly. Přemysl speaks invitingly. Přemysl Line 47) Good evening, you two. Come on in. Ambrož and Oumou enter Přemysl’s house. Oumou introduces herself in a friendly manner, passing her present over to Přemysl. Oumou Line 48) It’s so great to finally meet you, Přemysl! I’m sure you already know this, but I’m Oumou. I got you some chocolate. I hope you like it. Přemysl accepts the present in pleasant surprise. Přemysl Line 49) Oh, wow! Thank you so much. I got you guys something, too. Přemysl fetches his presents for Ambrož and Oumou, handing it over to them timidly. He speaks in a bashful manner. Přemysl Line 50) If you don’t mind, could you guys please open it when you get home? Oumou speaks appreciatively. Oumou Line 51) You got it. Thank you for the present! Ambrož smiles at Přemysl happily, speaking gratefully. Ambrož Line 52) Thank you, Přem. Přemysl speaks welcomingly. Přemysl Line 53) It’s my pleasure. Thank you guys for coming over. I hope it wasn’t too much trouble, especially with all the snow that’s piled up this week. Oumou replies reassuringly. Oumou Line 54) It wasn’t any trouble at all. Thank you for inviting me. I can’t wait to get to know you! Přemysl smiles at Oumou shyly. He speaks in a helpful manner. Přemysl Line 55) The feeling’s mutual. Allow me to grab your coats. The bathroom’s to the left for you guys to wash your hands. Let’s dig into dinner! Přemysl grabs Ambrož and Oumou’s coats, with Ambrož leaning in to hug Přemysl as he hands his coat over to him. Ambrož speaks in a fond tone. Ambrož Line 56) Thank you for assembling dinner. Your dedication is very adamant! Přemysl smiles at Ambrož happily, hugging him back. Přemysl Line 57) Of course. I’m glad you like it. They all make their way over to the dinner table after washing their hands, getting seated. Oumou speaks in a manner of pleasant surprise. Oumou Line 58) What an abundant array of foods! Did you cook everything yourself? Přemysl speaks in a tone of embarrassment. Přemysl Line 59) Um. Cooking is not my strongest suit. I ordered all of this from a restaurant. I just prepped everything. Oumou answers understandingly. Oumou Line 60) I see. Everything still looks great! Thank you for your work! Oumou speaks reassuringly. Oumou Line 61) You’re still young, so don’t worry about cooking. You have plenty of time to learn. Přemysl gets hit with a wave of realization. Line 62) Přemysl’s inner thoughts: That’s right. Oumou thinks I’m just a kid. Line 63) Přemysl’s inner thoughts: I guess Ambrož still hasn’t told her. I don’t know what I was expecting when we just had this conversation yesterday. I’m speeding through things. I need to dial down*. *Refer back to line 1 of this episode. Line 64) Přemysl’s inner thoughts: It’s up to him to decide things. That’s not my business. Ambrož speaks suggestively. Ambrož Line 65) Oumou’s actually a really great cook, Přem. Maybe she could teach you sometime. Oumou speaks in a tone of excitement. Oumou Line 66) That would be my pleasure! Přemysl replies anxiously. Přemysl Line 67) Oh. Um. There’s no need. I appreciate the offer. Line 68) Přemysl’s inner thoughts: I wouldn’t want her to put so much effort into teaching me how to cook when those skills aren’t useful for me. After all, blood is my primal good source. Oumou speaks reassuringly. Oumou Line 69) If you ever change your mind, let me know. Přemysl speaks welcomingly. Přemysl Line 70) You got it. Anyway, put some food on your plates. Go all out. They all do just that, digging into their meals. Some silence goes by as they enjoy their food. A thought comes across Přemysl’s mind, prompting him to question Oumou frantically. Přemysl Line 71) I should’ve said this beforehand, but you aren’t allergic to anything you’re eating at the moment, right, Oumou*? *Remember that Přemysl is aware of how Ambrož mentioned Oumou got an allergic reaction after they ate dessert at a café (refer back to episode 19, lines 71"73, etc). Ambrož speaks appreciatively. Ambrož Line 72) Thank you for being precautious about that since Oumou is kind of sensitive in that regard, but she seems fine right now. Oumou speaks dismissively, reassuring Přemysl. Oumou Line 73) That was only one time, Ambrož. I’m doing perfectly fine. Don’t you worry. Přemysl speaks in a tone of ease. Přemysl Line 74) That’s a relief. Anyway, how do you guys like the food? Oumou responds in a manner of delight. Oumou Line 75) It’s great! I really appreciate you ordering it! Ambrož speaks agreeably. Ambrož Line 76) Yeah! It’s delicious, Přem! Přemysl responds in a tone of alleviation. Přemysl Line 77) Glad to hear it. He thinks to himself, trying to come up with questions to ask them as they eat. Some spur to his mind, prompting him to converse. Přemysl Line 78) What’s your guys’ favorite food? Oumou Line 79) I really like any kind of curry. It just never gets old for me. Ambrož Line 80) You already know that dumplings are my favorite. Přemysl speaks confirmingly. Přemysl Line 81) That’s true. Those are some great options. Oumou speaks curiously. Oumou Line 82) What’s your favorite? Přemysl speaks in a tone of embarrassment. Přemysl Line 83) Honestly, I like burgers. Ambrož lets out a chuckle of amusement. Oumou speaks in a validative manner. Oumou Line 84) You could never go wrong with a burger. What about dessert? Přemysl answers passionately. Přemysl Line 85) Cupcakes* are always my go-to. What about you guys? *Refer back to episode 15, line 88. Oumou glances at Přemysl tenderly. Line 86) Oumou’s inner thoughts: He’s so cute! Cupcakes and burgers?! How precious! Oumou answers happily. Oumou Line 87) Cannolis. They’re to die for! Přemysl speaks agreeably. Přemysl Line 88) That’s a good one. Oumou and Přemysl look at Ambrož, awaiting his answer. He continues to eat his food, looking at them confusingly. Ambrož Line 89) Don’t you guys already know, though? Oumou and Přemysl look at each other in confusion, shrugging their shoulders once they look back over at Ambrož. Ambrož speaks in a playfully offended manner. Ambrož Line 90) Shame on you all for now knowing. Ten brownie points to whoever can guess first. Přemysl Line 91) Tiramisu? Oumou Line 92) Cheesecake? Ambrož speaks in a correctful tone. Ambrož Line 93) Errr. You guys are both wrong. It’s tres leches. Oumou and Přemysl look at Ambrož in surprise. Ambrož speaks in a manner of defeat. Ambrož Line 94) How could you guys not know? Oumou and Přemysl burst into wholesome laughter. Ambrož’s narration: Line 95) Though a bit awkward, this dinner allowed our truest inner child to shine. Line 96) I slightly expected to see Přemysl act overprotective with me, like how cliché parents are when they meet their child's significant others, but he was so friendly. Line 97) I like how we eased into our conversation for the evening, questioning simple things such as our favorite foods. Line 98) Delving into deep topics isn’t always necessary. Having easy conversations such as the ones we had today is more than enough, and we definitely needed it as a breather. Line 99) Přemysl and I may be 163 years old, but in reality, we’re still the same 15 and 18 years old we’ve been for decades. Line 100) Sure, our insight on the world is vastly different compared to others, but it’s as if we’ve been the same age for all our time as vampires. Line 101) We never really grew up, and we never really got the chance to embrace our youth. Line 102) But with Oumou, her young energy rubs off on us. Line 103) We’re all still just kids, eager to know things such as our favorite foods. End of episode. Copyright ©2025 under United States Copyright office, Library of Congress. All rights reserved.
