Anything () is extra information. ____________________________________________________________ Episode 44: The day is December 31st, 2004. It's a Friday evening. As the 2004 year comes to a close, everyone spends the day with their loved ones for the celebration. Being invited into Theo’s home for the occasion, Přemysl gets acquainted with Theo’s relatives during dinner. After dinner, Theo brings Přemysl to his room so they can converse in a quieter atmosphere. As they converse, Přemysl questions what Theo sees in him for him to act so compassionately towards him. Theo looks at Přemysl in confusion, wondering why Přemysl is asking him such a question. Theo Line 1) Um. This is some kind of joke, right? Přemysl gazes into Theo’s eyes in seriousness, his eyebrows furrowing in distress. Přemysl Line 2) I've not been the nicest person to you, and the fact that you and your family invited me to a special event is beyond me. Přemysl speaks in an insecure manner. Přemysl Line 3) I’m quite closed off, I get irritated very easily, my company is boring… Přemysl lets out a sad sigh. Přemysl Line 4) The point I'm trying to make is that I don't see any good qualities about me that lead you to be so nice to me. Přemysl speaks in a tone of humiliation. Přemysl Line 5) Haven’t you noticed that everyone else at school doesn't talk to me besides you? Přemysl speaks in a crushed manner. Přemysl Line 6) If you hadn’t approached me during chem class that one day*, I would have been eating at the cafeteria all alone for the whole year. *Remember that Přemysl and Theo met for the first time in chem class when Theo approached Přemysl to join the occult club (refer back to episode 19, line 75, etc). Přemysl speaks in a tone of loneliness. Přemysl Line 7) With the classes that we don’t have with each other, I have no one to talk to. Přemysl speaks in an unwanted manner. Přemysl Line 8) I’m also always chosen last for people looking for a partner during class projects. Přemysl speaks in a tone of shame. Přemysl Line 9) Majority of the time, nobody approaches me, and I have to tell the teacher that I’m missing a partner. Přemysl speaks embarrassingly. Přemysl Line 10) Having to do that so frequently, I end up feeling so humiliated. I’m nothing but a fool. Přemysl scrunches his hair in distress, gazing at Theo upsettingly. Theo’s eyebrows droop in sadness from Přemysl bringing himself down. Přemysl Line 11) But all I’m doing is wallowing in my misery, hoping that someone will lend a helping hand. Přemysl speaks pitfully. Přemysl Line 12) If it weren’t for you by my side, I would be spending the holidays alone. Přemysl Line 13) I would just be simply on my own. Přemysl speaks in a deeply apologetic tone. Přemysl Line 14) What I’m trying to say is that I’m sorry. Přemysl Line 15) You deserve a better friend. Přemysl shakes his head in disappointment. Přemysl Line 16) Someone who doesn’t snap at you every two seconds from their terrible temper… Přemysl speaks in a manner of remorse. Přemysl Line 17) Someone who doesn’t tarnish your reputation… Přemysl Line 18) Everybody likes you at school, but since you hang out with me, people are starting to look at you differently. Přemysl speaks in a tone of guilt. Přemysl Line 19) I never tell you about things, and you’re always having to walk around eggshells just to communicate with me. Přemysl speaks in a manner of disconcertion. Přemysl Line 20) I just can’t comprehend why you’re still sticking around. I’m unworthy of this kind of treatment. Přemysl tilts his head in confusion, his eyes glistening in sadness as he gazes at Theo. Přemysl Line 21) Anyone in your shoes would have run away by now, yet you’re still here. Přemysl Line 22) So, what is it? Because I’m just starting to think that there’s just something wrong with you if you’re going to continue hanging out with me. Theo lets out a chuckle of amusement. Přemysl glances at Theo in betrayment. His heart drops to his stomach from the harsh truth. Line 23) Přemysl’s inner thoughts: Have I cracked the code? Is he going to reveal his true intentions right now? Line 24) Přemysl’s inner thoughts: I knew something like this was too good to be true. Line 25) Přemysl’s inner thoughts: I’m so disappointed. For a second, I thought that Theo really liked me for who I truly am. Přemysl starts breathing heavily from the realization. Line 26) Přemysl’s inner thoughts: I’m the fool for having my heart swayed. Nobody in their right mind would ever want to be friends with me. Theo glances at Přemysl giddily. Přemysl droops his head down in dejection. Theo speaks in a playful manner. Theo Line 27) You caught me~ Přemysl stands up, swerving his head away from Theo’s gaze, unable to look him in the eyes. He speaks in a tone of sadness. Přemysl Line 28) I should get going. Tell your family that I can’t stay any longer. Přemysl Line 29) I’m sorry for being such a burden… Theo tilts his head in disconcertion, wondering why Přemysl is reacting the way he is. As Přemysl gets set to walk away, Theo swiftly grabs his wrist, stopping him in his tracks. Theo glances at Přemysl in confusion. He speaks in a discouraging manner. Theo Line 30) Don’t leave. Wouldn’t you like an explanation? Přemysl glances at Theo upsettingly. His eyes curved into a shape of defeat. Přemysl Line 31) Ignorance is bliss… Some things are better left unsaid… Theo glances at Přemysl questionably. He speaks in a tone of curiosity, wanting to get to the bottom of Přemysl’s unexpected demeanor. Theo Line 32) What are you talking about? I think you’ve misunderstood me. Přemysl speaks in a manner of betrayment. Přemysl Line 33) Our friendship was nothing but a facade. Theo’s eyebrows raise in confusion. He questions Přemysl bafflingly. Theo Line 34) How did you come to that conclusion? Přemysl responds in a tone of annoyance. Přemysl Line 35) What am I supposed to think when you burst out in laughter after I was being vulnerable with you? Theo speaks in a tone of clarification. Theo Line 36) No. No. You’ve got it all wrong. Theo responds desperately, eagerly wishing to clear the air between them. Theo Line 37) Please sit and allow me to explain. Přemysl hesitantly sits back down on Theo’s bed, glancing at him in confusion. Theo speaks in an apologetic manner. Theo Line 38) Sorry for not taking into consideration how my sudden burst of laughter might have seemed to you. Theo explains himself hesitantly, hoping not to hurt Theo’s feelings. Theo Line 39) I was just laughing because I found your reasonings slightly ridiculous. Theo speaks in a sincere tone. Theo Line 40) Let me first clarify that I never used you, nor did I start or continue our friendship with ulterior motives up my sleeve. Theo Line 41) Though you may not believe me, this entire time, I’ve been friends with you on serious terms. Theo Line 42) What can I say? I just want to be your friend, Orlin. Theo explains himself apprehensively. Theo Line 43) Sure, I approached you in chem class about the occult club because you seemed a bit lonely, but I don’t see anything wrong with that. Theo speaks in a tone of inspiration, reminiscing at a memory. Theo Line 44) I thought for certain that no one would want to be in an occult club, but knowing that you and a couple of other people were interested motivated me to continue. Theo speaks sentimentally. Theo Line 45) I was really relieved to see you enter the club room that day. Theo speaks proudly, gazing at Přemysl cheerfully. Theo Line 46) Though you were quite timid from the start, after a couple of club meetings, I started seeing you come out of your shell. Theo speaks in an appreciative manner. Theo Line 47) Not only have you contributed to this club immensely, but you’ve also been really supportive. Theo agrees with Přemysl nervously. Theo Line 48) Sure, you don’t have the best temper and you do get annoyed quite easily… Theo speaks in a grateful tone. Theo Line 49) But underneath those flaws lies a friendly individual who has created a safe space for anyone to lean on him. Theo happily smiles at Přemysl. Přemysl gazes at Theo with surprise. Theo Line 50) Anytime I need to speak with someone who is always there for me to get everything off my chest without any sort of judgment, I’m happy to come to you. Theo speaks in an undeserving manner. Theo Line 51) On the latter, I find it crushing that you won't share much with me since I'd like to repay the favor… Theo speaks in a respectful tone. Theo Line 52) But I understand why you’re closed off, and I’m not pressuring you to let me in on anything if you don’t want to*. *Refer back to episode 34, line 33. Theo Line 53) By the way, I don’t think your company is boring at all*. *Refer back to line 3 of this episode. Theo smiles at Přemysl joyfully. Theo Line 54) In fact, I find it very comforting. Přemysl gazes at Theo bashfully. Theo speaks in an uneasy manner. Theo Line 55) You may think that everyone likes me at school, but you’d be wrong. Theo speaks in a tone of acceptance. Theo Line 56) I’m the biggest weirdo at school. Theo Line 57) I’m the emo kid* whose personality doesn’t match my external appearance. *Remember that Theo is a goth (refer back to episode 38, line 33). Theo Line 58) I’m too friendly towards people, and for others, that’s frustrating. Theo’s body language changes into a manner of dejection. He picks at his nails upsettingly. Theo Line 59) … I hear all kinds of people talk behind my back constantly. Theo speaks in a tone of indifference. Theo Line 60) Which is why I couldn’t care less if you think that hanging out with me is ruining my reputation at school*. *Refer back to lines 17 and 18. Theo Line 61) I, myself, am already ruining my reputation at school. Theo Line 62) But, as I mentioned, I don’t care. Haters gonna hate. Theo speaks in an analytical manner. Theo Line 63) I’m still figuring myself out. Why should I let what other people say about me get to me? Theo speaks in a tone of disgust. Theo Line 64) Am I supposed to be the IT guy in high school? Wouldn't that suit a jock more? I would rather die than peak so early. Přemysl lets out a chuckle of amusement, finding Theo’s remark hilarious. Theo glances at Přemysl wholesomely, happy to have cracked some laughter out of him. Přemysl blushes, timidly glancing away in embarrassment from the uncontrollable burst of laughter. Theo speaks sentimentally, glancing at Přemysl appreciatively. Theo Line 65) Orlin. You’re the first friend I’ve ever made who takes me as I am. Theo speaks in a tone of betrayment. Theo Line 66) All these other folks only like me because I’m “peculiar”. Theo Line 67) They only like me when I’m the class clown, but not when I’m the most sensitive guy in the world. Theo speaks bitterly. Theo Line 68) They don’t see me for who I truly am. Theo Line 69) I’m just an afterthought to them. Theo speaks in a tone of resentment. Theo Line 70) Once we all graduate, nobody will stay in touch with me. Theo Line 71) Because nobody cares enough to do so. Theo speaks in a hopeful manner. Theo Line 72) You, on the other hand, though quite hostile at times, prioritize me. Theo speaks appreciatively. Theo Line 73) I’ve never felt so cared for in a friendship before I met you. Theo Line 74) You may not believe that because all you see are your flaws… Theo speaks in a loyal tone. Theo Line 75) No matter how long it takes for you to believe me, I will remain by your side. Theo Line 76) You’re a great friend~ Theo speaks admirably towards Přemysl. Theo Line 77) I want you to know how appreciative I am to call you my friend. Theo speaks embracingly. Theo Line 78) Whether or not you feel the same way doesn’t matter to me… Theo speaks empathetically. Theo Line 79) Even if, after opening up about this, you suddenly feel disgusted by me, I’ll understand… Theo speaks in a tender tone. Theo Line 80) I won’t blame you, nor will I look back at all our memories bitterly. Theo Line 81) I’ll look back thankfully, knowing I had the honor to be your friend. Theo speaks in a manner of gratitude. Theo Line 82) So, thank you… Thank you so much. Přemysl glances at Theo in remorse. He stands up, placing his hands on his head in guilt. He speaks in a tone of impatience. Přemysl Line 83) I can’t take this anymore! Theo glances at Přemysl upsettingly, thinking that Přemysl is done with their friendship. He speaks in a manner of disappointment. Theo Line 84) I… understand. Y-You can leave if you want to. I’ll make sure to explain everything to my family… Přemysl responds in a tone of frustration. Přemysl Line 85) No! You just… don’t get it. Theo tilts his head in confusion. Theo Line 86) What don’t I get? Přemysl speaks in a hopeless manner. Přemysl Line 87) Me! You don’t know who I am! Přemysl’s eyebrows furrow in distress. Přemysl Line 88) Do you even know that I’m hiding a big part of my identity from you?! Přemysl speaks in a tone of paranoia. Přemysl Line 89) The truth would make you eat your words if you ever knew it! Přemysl Line 90) Stop saying you understand me when you clearly don’t and never will! Přemysl lashes out. Přemysl Line 91) I’m a monster! Přemysl speaks in a tone of anguish. Přemysl Line 92) All I’ve ever done my entire life is cause pain! Přemysl Line 93) I’m wasting my time chasing something that I don’t even know exists! Přemysl Line 94) I’m hiding like a coward from the whole world simply because of some stupid acceptance! Přemysl speaks remorsefully. Přemysl Line 95) And here I am, taking advantage of you! Přemysl Line 96) You’re being all vulnerable towards me when I have nothing to give you in return besides my wrath! Přemysl shakes his head in guilt. Přemysl Line 97) Not only am I placing my own feelings in jeopardy, but yours as well! Přemysl Line 98) I don't want you to be involved in this*, yet you're so magnetic and unrelenting! Přemysl Line 99) It’s like I’m being hypnotized! Přemysl Line 100) I'm not acting like myself because I feel like I should repay your kindness*! *Refer back to episode 42, line 54. Přemysl Line 101) But how do I deserve your kindness when I’ve been lying to you this entire time?! Přemysl Line 102) I keep slipping up because of you*! *Refer back to episode 42, line 50, 52, 55, etc. Přemysl shakes his head in disapproval. Přemysl Line 103) I should have never enacted this plan in the first place! Přemysl speaks in a manner of disconcertion. Přemysl Line 104) How could I be so dense not to realize this was a terrible idea from the start?! Theo speaks in a tone of curiosity. Theo Line 105) What have you been lying about? Theo Line 106) Tell me what you’ve been hiding. Theo speaks in a certain manner, eager to know the truth. Theo Line 107) I’ll do whatever it takes to prove you wrong. Theo Line 108) Let me show you how I’ll still take you as you are. Theo Line 109) I’ll suffer the repercussions. Just tell me the truth. Přemysl warns Theo assertively.
