Episode 32:

The next day rolls around.

The day is November 2nd, 2004. It's a Tuesday morning.

Ambrož gets out of bed, stretching his body out and ruffling his hair as he lets out a big yawn.

He slouches his back, feeling unmotivated for the plans he laid out ahead of himself for the day.

Line 1) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: First night in my own place, and I’m still unable to shake off this unsettling empty feeling*.

*Refer back to episode 28, line 52.

Ambrož scrunches his hair in distress.

Line 2) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I feel like a genuine nobody. Why the heck was I placed on this earth to wallow away in time?

Ambrož clicks his tongue in disappointment, flopping back on his bed, spreading his arms and legs out like a starfish.

Line 3) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: What is the point of my existence? What have I done with my life?

Line 4) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I feel utterly useless.

Ambrož shuffles his legs in bed from frustration.

Line 5) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: But I have to meet up with some people today.

Line 6) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: But I’m most likely going to get led down another dead end.

Line 7) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: But I’d feel lazy doing nothing all day.

Line 8) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I have to at least try, but I really don’t feel like doing anything today at all.

Line 9) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I wish Oumou was done with work right now so that we could hang out with each other.

Ambrož gets a text from Oumou, immediately checking his phone eagerly.

Line 10) Oumou’s text message: Morning, Ambrož! Hope you have a good day. Is it okay if I swing by your place later today to continue helping you out with getting things situated at home?☺️

Ambrož happily smirks at Oumou’s text, feeling a ray of hope rejuvenate his soul.

Line 11) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Now I wish for her to finish work even more!!

Ambrož replies giddily.

Line 12) Ambrož’s text message: Good morning, Oumou! I hope you have a good day, too. Feel free to swing by later today. But don’t wear yourself out too much.😊

Oumou immediately responds back.

Line 13) Oumou’s text message: You got it! Can’t wait to see you later today! See you soon!😄

Ambrož releases a smitten giggle, feeling the butterflies in his stomach flutter from Oumou’s response.

Line 14) Ambrož’s text message: I can’t wait to see you later today, too! Catch you later!⭐

Oumou sends a smiley face emoji (😁) to Ambrož.

Ambrož blushes receiving the text message.

Ambrož thinks in a manner of determination.

Line 15) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Alright, I'm definitely going to kill some time now so I can see Oumou sooner.

Ambrož gets dressed for the day, getting situated in his car to drive to a site.

He arrives at the site (a vintage-styled saloon) and enters it hesitantly.

He glances around the saloon, feeling an odd sensation engulf him from the emptiness of the place.

He briefly glances around the place, turning over to walk, only to bump into a random lady.

He flinches, not expecting someone to abruptly stand behind him.

The lady speaks in a sinister manner, glancing at Ambrož creepily.

Lady

Line 16) You must be Ambrož…

Ambrož feels a chill run down his spine, feeling extremely unsettled by the woman’s unfriendly demeanor.

He notices her dark purple lacy attire, wearing a cape-like head covering and dangly earrings.

He observes her eyes, noticing the grey shade they encompass and the pale complexion of her face, complimenting the deeply set wrinkles on her skin.

He glances down at her hands, noticing the withery state they’re in, as well as the blood-orange color of her long nails and the fat emerald ring on her right hand’s finger.

He sniffs the air, getting hit with a pungent, smoky scent filling his nostrils.

The lady speaks in a playful tone, placing her hands on her hips boldly.

Lady

Line 17) Have you looked enough?

Ambrož snaps back into reality, getting hit with the realization of his poor manners.

He freaks out on the inside.

Line 18) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I can’t believe I just stayed quiet and observed her like that. What’s wrong with me?

Line 19) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I’ve bumped into all kinds of questionable-looking people, venturing out for the cure, but I’ve never been snuck up upon the way I have with this lady.

Ambrož’s eyebrows furrow cautiously.

Line 20) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Something about her aura is so mystical. I feel like I’m in danger for some reason.

The lady speaks sassily, glancing at her nails in a manner of irritation.

Lady

Line 21) Are you just going to stand there all day in silence?

Ambrož speaks in a nervous voice.

Ambrož

Line 22) E-Excuse my poor manners. Are you Eden, by any chance?

The lady speaks in a skeptical manner.

Lady

Line 23) Perhaps…

Ambrož glances at her in confusion.

Line 24) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Why is she acting like this? I’m already not in the mood for games, yet she’s purposefully making things harder for me.

The lady speaks in a tone of confidence.

Lady

Line 25) You’re a vampire.

Ambrož’s body jolts in shock, looking at the woman in surprise.

She walks behind her bar, prepping things to make a drink.

Ambrož speaks in a tone of surprise.

Ambrož

Line 26) H-How"

The lady cuts Ambrož off, speaking in a manner of determination.

Lady

Line 27) Can I get you something started?

Ambrož glances at the woman in disconcertion.

Ambrož

Line 28) I’m not here for a drink. I came here to speak with someone named Eden.

Ambrož

Line 29) Why did you say that I’m a vampire?

The lady glances at Ambrož indifferently.

Lady

Line 30) I just can immediately tell.

Ambrož raises his arms in disbelief.

Ambrož

Line 31) That’s all you’re giving me to work with?

The lady rolls her eyes, speaking in a fictitiously reassuring voice.

Lady

Line 32) Your secret is safe with me. What did you want to speak about?

Ambrož speaks in a manner of impatience.

Ambrož

Line 33) Firstly, why won’t you confirm whether or not you’re Eden? I purposefully reached out to an individual named Eden on an internet forum*. I came here to speak with them.

*This detail has not been written in the story before this recognition, as this plan concerns Ambrož’s endeavors to find the cure to vampirism.

The lady speaks in a cryptic tone.

Lady

Line 34) Yes. You reached out to speak about the cure for vampirism. What do you want to know?

Ambrož speaks in a manner of annoyance.

Ambrož

Line 35) What else would I want to know if I’ve come all the way here? Can you just tell me what it is?

The lady giggles, finding Ambrož’s desperation amusing.

She takes a shot of whiskey, having her body shiver in jitters.

Lady

Line 36) You’re asking the wrong questions.

Ambrož lets out a sigh of exhaustion, speaking in a tone of frustration.

Ambrož

Line 37) Listen, I’ve been trying to find it for decades. If you’re just going to waste my time, why did you agree for us to meet up?

Ambrož sternly gets set to walk away.

Ambrož

Line 38) Now, if you’ll excuse me.

The lady speaks in an alluring manner.

Lady

Line 39) That’s a shame, because I know exactly what it is.

Ambrož stops in his tracks, his heart dropping to his stomach.

His eyes bulge in shock.

Line 40) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I’ve never met someone who definitively told me they knew what the cure was after all my years of searching.

Line 41) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: This is the first time I’ve heard it confidently said out loud. Could she really be telling the truth?

Ambrož approaches the lady, having a seat at one of the bar stools in the saloon.

He grabs ahold of the lady’s hands, glancing at her in a manner of determination.

Ambrož

Line 42) Please! You have to tell me what it is!

The lady playfully glances at Ambrož, snagging her hand out of Ambrož’s grasp.

She speaks in a manipulative tone.

Lady

Line 43) It’s all too complicated, I fear.

Ambrož speaks in a manner of desperation.

Ambrož

Line 44) That’s not a problem! I’m willing to do anything!

The lady speaks in a curious tone.

Lady

Line 45) Tell me. What have you been doing all these years to find the cure?

Ambrož

Line 46) I’ve lived around the country, meeting up with people like you to get to the bottom of my goal.

Ambrož speaks hopelessly, hoping the lady will take pity upon him.

Ambrož

Line 47) I never got far with them because all they said would lead me down dead ends.

Ambrož

Line 48) Other than that, I’ve been working alongside people, hoping that maybe something within them has answers for me.

Ambrož

Line 49) But I would never get too close to them for precautions.

The lady speaks in a sneaky manner.

Lady

Line 50) Is it really that dangerous to get close to humans? Perhaps, that’s what you’ve been doing wrong all these years?

Ambrož agrees passionately.

Ambrož

Line 51) I completely agree with you!

Ambrož speaks in a melancholic tone.

Ambrož

Line 52) It’s really complicated and long to explain, but my brother who’s also a vampire, advised me not to get close to humans, so I obliged because his reasons seemed valid to me at first…

Ambrož

Line 53) That was until I took it upon myself to establish a close connection with someone besides him.

The lady speaks impishly.

Lady

Line 54) Is this connection with a human?

Ambrož speaks affectionately.

Ambrož

Line 55) Why yes! In fact, it’s more than just a regular connection; it's the romantic kind.

The lady’s eyes spark.

She speaks in a tone of encouragement.

Lady

Line 56) You’re going down the right path!

Ambrož speaks in a manner of seeking reassurance.

Ambrož

Line 57) Am I really?

The lady speaks enthusiastically.

Lady

Line 58) Yes! You’ll surely find what you’re looking for this way!

Ambrož speaks in a tone of confusion.

Ambrož

Line 59) … Why won’t you just tell me upfront what the cure is? You said you know what it is*.

*Refer back to line 39 of this episode.

Ambrož speaks in a manner of desperation.

Ambrož

Line 60) What do you need from me? Money?

The lady speaks assertively.

Lady

Line 61) Everyone needs money. But I won’t accept anything you offer me to get answers for the cure. I’ve told you enough.

Ambrož speaks in a tone of anguish.

Ambrož

Line 62) Please. I need more than just some reassurance that I’m going down the right path.

Ambrož whispers at the lady, glancing at her in a serious manner.

Ambrož

Line 63) Are you being watched?

The lady bursts into laughter.

Lady

Line 64) Of course not!

Ambrož looks at the woman in a puzzling way.

She grips her necklace tight, playfully speaking.

Lady

Line 65) Don’t even think about compelling me for answers. I’m wearing garlic*.

*The lady has a locket necklace in which she stores garlic inside. Remember that garlic is one of a vampire's weaknesses (refer back to episode 6, line 70).

Ambrož speaks in a tone of defeat.

Ambrož

Line 66) I’m desperate. But not desperate enough to unwillingly shake answers out of someone. What do you take me for?

The lady speaks in a strict manner.

Lady

Line 67) Listen, I can’t tell you the full truth because that’ll ruin the experience.

The lady speaks in a suggestive tone.

Lady

Line 68) If you knew how your life would end, would you want me to tell you?

Ambrož replies passionately.

Ambrož

Line 69) Of course!

The lady speaks in a stern manner.

Lady

Line 70) That’s where you’re wrong, my friend.

The lady speaks in a protective tone.

Lady

Line 71) If I told you how your life would end, you’d constantly live in a state of fear, abstaining from all sorts of things, causing your fate to change.

The lady speaks arrogantly.

Lady

Line 72) Think of it as reading a book. If I told you how it would end, what’s the point of continuing?

Lady

Line 73) That’s how your situation is right now. If I elaborate any further, it’ll spoil what’s down the line for you.

The lady speaks wisely.

Lady

Line 74) Trust me when I say that continuing to fuel this romantic connection with this human will answer all kinds of questions you’ve been pondering your whole life.

The lady speaks dismissively.

Lady

Line 75) Only then will you find the cure to vampirism. I’ve already said too much. Go figure the rest out on your own.

Ambrož looks at the lady in a crushed manner.

She rolls her eyes, trying to distract herself from getting lured in by Ambrož’s pitiful state.

Lady

Line 76) Don’t give me that look. You’re more than fine. This is truly the right move.

Lady

Line 77) Get going already. Don’t keep anyone waiting. Also, don’t come back here ever again.

Ambrož exits the saloon, driving home in a state of confusion.

Line 78) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Should I really believe in anything she had to say?

Ambrož questions the lady’s statements.

Line 79) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: The answers to the cure for vampirism are within my romantic connection with Oumou?

Ambrož clicks his tongue in annoyance.

Line 80) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Just what does that mean? Why couldn’t she be more specific?

Line 81) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Whatever. I should take our interaction with a grain of salt.

Line 82) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I did what I needed to do for the day. Now, I can finally go back home to hang out with Oumou.

Ambrož makes it home, watching Oumou enter her apartment upon his arrival.

She stops in her tracks, noticing his entry.

She speaks in a welcoming tone.

Oumou

Line 83) Hey, you! Just heading back?

Ambrož shifts his attention onto Oumou, completely dismissing the interaction he had earlier.

He speaks in a friendly manner.

Ambrož

Line 84) Yeah. Did you just arrive?

Oumou speaks in a tone of accomplishment.

Oumou

Line 85) Yes! I’m finally finished with work!

Oumou

Line 86) I’ll be over at your place in a jiffy.

Ambrož responds affectionately.

Ambrož

Line 87) Alright. Take your time.

Ambrož enters his place, gathering the necessary supplies to continue assembling his furniture.

Oumou knocks on Ambrož’s door, with him letting her in.

The both of them continue getting Ambrož’s place settled, chatting with each other as they work.

Ambrož thinks back to his conversation with the lady, prompting questions for Oumou.

He speaks in a curious voice.

Ambrož

Line 88) This is completely out of left field, but if you knew how you were going to die, would you want to know?

Oumou tries to process Ambrož’s question, looking at him in confusion.

Ambrož gets hit with a wave of realization from his question.

He freaks out on the inside.

Line 89) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I’m an idiot! What kind of person asks that kind of question out of the blue!

Ambrož speaks in a frantic tone.

Ambrož

Line 90) U-Uh. Don’t answer if you feel uncomf"

Oumou cuts Ambrož off, speaking in an assertive manner.

Oumou

Line 91) I wouldn’t want to know.

The both of them sit in silence with each other.

Ambrož speaks inquisitively.

Ambrož

Line 92) C-Can I ask why?

Oumou speaks sympathetically.

Oumou

Line 93) Ignorance is bliss. Why would I want to know the details of my impending death?

Oumou

Line 94) If I knew, I would live in a constant state of fear. Obtaining that kind of knowledge rids me of the chance to live a peaceful life.

Oumou

Line 95) This isn’t a good analogy, but it’s kind of like getting spoiled.

Oumou

Line 96) For example, we’ve just started reading our book together. If someone spoiled the ending, I feel like there’d be no point in reading the rest of it when I know how things will end.

Ambrož’s heart drops to his stomach when he realizes the uncanny resemblance of Oumou’s answer to the lady he visited earlier*.

*Refer back to lines 71 and 72 of this episode.

Oumou

Line 97) That’s at least how I feel. What about you?

Ambrož speaks in a nervous tone.

Ambrož

Line 98) Um. My answer before you told me yours would be that I’d actually want to know, but you’ve brought up some good points.

Both of them continue chatting with each other, finally completing all the tasks to situate Ambrož’s home.

Oumou glances at Ambrož’s place in satisfaction.

She speaks in a manner of excitement.

Oumou

Line 99) Your place looks great! How do you feel about it?

Ambrož speaks in a mutual tone.

Ambrož

Line 100) It does look great! I couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you so much.

Oumou blushes at Ambrož’s appreciativeness.

She gets hit with a wave of remembrance.

Oumou

Line 101) How could I forget?! I need to fetch you something right now!

Ambrož looks at Oumou in confusion.

Oumou

Line 102) I’ll be right back. I forgot to get you something.

Oumou exits Ambrož’s place, quickly heading into hers to get something.

She enters his place with a bonsai tree plant in hand.

Ambrož glances at Oumou in delight.

She approaches him, gently handing over the tree.

She speaks in a tone of enthusiasm.

Oumou

Line 103) This is your housewarming present*!

*Refer back to episode 31, line 99.

Oumou

Line 104) Not only did I get this because it’s your favorite plant*, but I got it because, upon further research, bonsai trees represent strength and resilience, as well as growth and new beginnings.

*Refer back to episode 29, line 59.

Oumou

Line 105) I know it’s just a plant, but the cactus you gifted me symbolizes a lot*, and brings me a lot of comfort and courage knowing the message behind why you gifted it to me.

*Refer back to episode 29, lines 64-77, etc.

Oumou speaks in a sincere tone.

Oumou

Line 106) I hope that this plant can evoke some of those pleasant emotions you’ve provided me with.

Ambrož sets the plant down, leaning into Oumou to give her a hug.

Oumou freezes in her stance, not expecting for such a sudden embrace.

Ambrož’s eyebrows melt, feeling touched by Oumou’s words.

He speaks in a sentimental tone.

Ambrož

Line 107) Thank you so much~

Oumou hugs Ambrož back, closing her eyes fulfillingly.

End of episode.
