Episode 31:

The day is October 24th, 2004. It's Sunday nighttime.

Oumou suggests that Ambrož moves in next door in her apartment complex.

Ambrož looks at Oumou in shock, speaking in a tone of surprise.

Ambrož

Line 1) There’s nobody living next door?

Oumou

Line 2) The person that lived there recently moved out, so it’s free at the moment.

Oumou speaks in an encouraging manner.

Oumou

Line 3) Feel like moving in? It'd be great to be neighbors!

Ambrož smirks at the thought.

Ambrož

Line 4) This is so convenient!

Ambrož speaks in an agreeable tone.

Ambrož

Line 5) Hopefully, nobody is listed to move in. I want to be the one to snag the place first.

Oumou speaks in a manner of excitement.

Oumou

Line 6) So you’ll do it?!

Ambrož speaks in a mutual voice.

Ambrož

Line 7) Of course! I have nowhere else to go. I’d love to be your neighbor!

Oumou speaks charismatically.

Oumou

Line 8) You should apply at the front desk tomorrow. Hopefully, you’ll be set to move in! I’ll help you out since you helped me!

Ambrož speaks in an appreciative manner.

Ambrož

Line 9) That’d be great! Thank you for bringing this opportunity up!

Ambrož’s narration:

Line 10) That’s how Oumou and I became neighbors.

Line 11) Within a week, I was able to swiftly move in next door, having all my necessary documents prepared.

Line 12) Prior to that, I was living with Oumou for a couple of days at her place since she was so insistent on allowing me to stay.

Line 13) However, I’d have her whole place to myself most of the time since she’d be at work on weekdays for full-time hours.

Line 14) When she’d get back from work, the both of us would hang out with each other.

Line 15) Because we had only known each other for about a week when she offered me to stay at her place, I felt out of place living with her.

Line 16) I didn’t feel comfortable living with her. I felt like I was intruding on her life.

Line 17) But then she’d always returned from work enthusiastically, looking forward to seeing me, which would slightly put me at ease.

Line 18) Throughout the week that I stayed at her place, I would do research on vampirism, meet up with people educated in the occult, and continue to be led down dead ends despite my efforts, like always.

Line 19) I wistfully thought about Přemysl frequently, wondering what he was up to and how he was managing without me.

Line 20) I called him up a few times, but he didn’t answer me whatsoever.

Line 21) I contemplated heading back to the old house, but Oumou’s words came flooding back to me…

Line 22) She’s the one who said I should give him space and keep my distance between us since*, after all, I was kicked out and told never to return ever again*.

*Refer back to episode 28, lines 62 and 63.

*Refer back to episode 26, line 80.

Line 23) But I couldn’t help but reminisce about my conversations with Přemysl.

Line 24) When Halloween came around, I thought of how he mentioned his occult club was going to have an event that day*.

*Refer back to episode 23, line 41.

Line 25) Did he dress up? He mentioned that his school allows kids to do that for the holiday*.

*Refer back to episode 23, lines 46 and 47.

Line 26) I’m really worried about him. Is he still doing the things he intended to do?

Line 27) Oumou noticed my somber demeanor, and offered her solace warmly.

Line 28) Instead of going somewhere with each other after work as we had done previously, we stayed at her place the entire week, cracking open into the book we bought, “No Longer Rich Like You’d Wish*.”

*Refer back to episode 18, lines 8-19, etc.

Line 29) We would take turns reading a page to each other, just as we had planned*.

*Refer back to episode 17, lines 74-77, etc.

Line 30) It was flustering peeking up from the book to glance at Oumou’s attentive face as I had read to her.

Line 31) Especially since the book we’re reading to each other is a romance.

Line 32) Besides that, I would help around the place by doing things like dishes, cleaning dust, vacuuming, mopping the floors, and overall just keeping things tidy. I wouldn't dare sit around and do nothing.

Line 33) I would continue feeling guilty about Oumou offering me the food she had cooked but would be obliged to eat anyway since she had made an effort to cook it up for my sake*.

*Refer back to episode 28, lines 20 and 21.

Line 34) But when she'd leave for work, that's when I'd consume my real dinner, secretly buying bottles of cow blood from the international market, drinking it, and throwing away the evidence for Oumou not to know.

Line 35) I put up this front to Oumou that I was settling in okay at her place, but in reality, I felt such a deep pang of remorse engulf me every day, knowing that I was living under the roof of someone who doesn’t know who I really am.

Line 36) During that week, I also ordered a bunch of furniture and home essentials online for my new place.

Line 37) Before I knew it, I was successfully offered the apartment, having a place solely for myself for the first time in my life.

The day is November 1st, 2004. It's a late Monday evening.

Oumou is helping Ambrož move into his place, helping him with cleaning, placing his home essentials around, and slightly assembling his furniture.

The both of them take a small break, with Oumou sitting on Ambrož’s new couch, placed in his living room.

Ambrož heads over to his fridge, grabbing two cans of soda for the both of them.

He makes his way back to Oumou, handing over the can of soda.

She appreciatively accepts it, smirking at him gratefully.

Ambrož speaks in a manner of guilt.

Ambrož

Line 38) You know, you really didn’t have to clean up my entire place all by yourself.

Ambrož

Line 39) You must be exhausted from work. Why did you tackle doing chores on top of the strenuous day you’ve already had so far?

Oumou speaks in an insistent manner.

Oumou

Line 40) Oh, please. This is nothing compared to the help you offered me when you lived back at my place.

Oumou defends her reasoning passionately.

Oumou

Line 41) I just felt like I owed you, plus, we’re practically all finished with setting up your place.

Oumou

Line 42) You’re the one who said, “Teamwork makes the dream work~*.” I’ll never stop bringing that up.

*Refer back to episode 10, line 96.

Ambrož releases a gentle chuckle, feeling delighted from Oumou’s remembrance.

Oumou speaks in a sentimental tone. Her voice filled with notes of guilt.

Oumou

Line 43) Not only that, but I noticed how uneasy you felt back at my place*.

*Refer back to line 15 of this episode.

Oumou

Line 44) I don’t blame you for feeling tense since things are changing for you so suddenly, but that all the more makes me want to offer you my comfort if that even helps at all.

Oumou

Line 45) And I also noticed how uncomfortable you felt. I’m assuming it’s because you had to share a place with me, which is completely understandable*.

*Refer back to line 16 of this episode.

Oumou

Line 46) So, consider my help today as an “I’m sorry” gift and an “I’m here for you” gift.

Ambrož glances at Oumou in a manner of guilt.

Ambrož

Line 47) I didn’t think you noticed the way I felt.

Oumou speaks in a playful tone, trying to lift Ambrož’s spirits.

Oumou

Line 48) To be completely honest, you’re not the best at hiding your emotions. They’re really obvious.

Ambrož releases an awkward chuckle.

He speaks apologetically.

Ambrož

Line 49) I’m really sorry.

Oumou speaks in a tone of confusion.

Oumou

Line 50) What are you sorry for? I’m the one that should be sorry.

Ambrož speaks in a manner of embarrassment.

Ambrož

Line 51) I didn’t mean to worry you for no reason. I must have felt like a nuisance to you.

Oumou gently places her hand on Ambrož’s back consolingly.

She speaks in a reassuring manner.

Oumou

Line 52) How can you say that? You could never be a nuisance to me, Ambrož.

Oumou speaks in an apologetic tone.

Oumou

Line 53) I’m the one that shouldn’t have been so insistent on you staying at my place*. Sorry that you felt uncomfortable.

*Refer back to line 12 of this episode.

Oumou speaks in a manner of remorse.

Oumou

Line 54) And I’m sorry that I don’t know the proper way to comfort you during this hard time. Comfort is not my strong suit.

Ambrož speaks in a reassuring voice.

Ambrož

Line 55) Don’t feel guilty for offering me your place. I’m the one who agreed to stay at the end of the day.

Ambrož speaks in an appreciative tone, filled with notes of guilt.

Ambrož

Line 56) I should be more appreciative. I thank you for your hospitality abundantly. I’m just sorry that I couldn’t get comfy.

Ambrož

Line 57) That has nothing to do with you. I’m just feeling this way because I don’t have a home to come back to.

Ambrož speaks in a hopeless manner.

Ambrož

Line 58) Though I finally have a place of my own now, I’m still going to feel this way because my true home is where my brother resides.

Ambrož

Line 59) I’m just going to have to get used to being on my own.

Oumou places her hand on Ambrož’s shoulder comfortingly.

She speaks in a supportive tone.

Oumou

Line 60) You’re not on your own, though. I’m here for you.

Ambrož bittersweetly smiles at Oumou, speaking apologetically.

Ambrož

Line 61) I’m sorry that I made you feel like you don’t know how to comfort me.

Ambrož

Line 62) If it weren’t for you by my side that week, I would be in a state of utter shambles right now.

Ambrož speaks in a reassuring manner, grabbing ahold of Oumou’s hand affectionately.

Ambrož

Line 63) You may think that comfort isn’t your strong suit, but I think that you’re really great at it~

Oumou’s blushes, shyly glancing at Ambrož.

Oumou

Line 64) T-That’s reassuring to hear.

Ambrož smiles at Oumou welcomingly, changing the topic to divert the flustering tension between them.

Ambrož

Line 65) Isn’t it crazy how today’s the first day of the month?

Oumou speaks agreeably.

Oumou

Line 66) It is crazy! October went by so quickly!

A thought comes across Oumou’s mind, and she speaks in an intriguing tone.

Oumou

Line 67) Don’t you think it’s sad how we’ll never have the same day twice?

Oumou

Line 68) Like for example, today’s the last November 1st of 2004.

Oumou

Line 69) There’ll never be another November 1st, 2004.

Oumou speaks in a melancholic manner.

Oumou

Line 70) That’s bittersweet, isn’t it?

Ambrož speaks mutually.

Ambrož

Line 71) You’re completely right. It is sad.

Ambrož

Line 72) Every day is practically the last day ever in time.

Oumou

Line 73) Only two more months, and it’ll be January.

Oumou

Line 74) Time is so swift.

The both of them let out a sigh of exhaustion.

They smile at each other from their in-sync sounds of distress.

Another thought comes across Oumou’s mind, and she explains in an alluring manner.

Oumou

Line 75) You know, I heard that people are more chatty at night.

Oumou

Line 76) Something about brain chemistry being sporadic at night, thus prompting tangents of vulnerability.

Oumou

Line 77) So, sorry if I’m yapping a bit too much to you right now, but I can’t help my brain chemistry.

Ambrož releases a chuckle, speaking in a reassuring tone.

Ambrož

Line 78) I’m enjoying our conversation, so pass my thanks on to your brain chemistry.

Oumou smiles at Ambrož happily, speaking in a yearnful manner.

Oumou

Line 79) I’m going to miss having you at my place even though you only stuck by for a week.

Oumou

Line 80) It’s going to feel empty without you.

Ambrož blushes, finding Oumou’s remark flustering.

He speaks bashfully.

Ambrož

Line 81) I-I’m just a door away, you.

Oumou playfully nudges Ambrož's chest, speaking in a naughty voice.

Oumou

Line 82) I know, but it’s still going to be so different.

Oumou’s voice changes into a sentimental tone.

Oumou

Line 83) That was a really special week for me.

Oumou

Line 84) I feel a lot closer to you after the time we shared then.

Oumou speaks appreciatively.

Oumou

Line 85) Thank you for being so friendly and offering me your support, especially since I'm new in town.

Oumou

Line 86) I truly didn’t know what to expect moving to Michigan, but my hopes weren’t high.

Oumou speaks in a wistful manner.

Oumou

Line 87) I felt extremely homesick the second I set foot into the airplane flying me here, even though my parents and I departed on the wrong foot*.

*Refer back to episode 12, lines 90-98.

Oumou speaks affectionately.

Oumou

Line 88) But, I wish I could turn back time and give past me some reassurance that she’d bump into a really nice friend who’d lend her a helping hand through this journey.

Ambrož's face flushes red, resulting in him speaking timidly, swerving his gaze away from Oumou’s.

Ambrož

Line 89) You accolade me way too much for doing the bare minimum.

Oumou speaks in a playful manner.

Oumou

Line 90) Don’t sell yourself short. You’ve been so sweet to me.

Oumou switches into a grateful voice.

Oumou

Line 91) I just want you to know that I heavily appreciate your company.

She then speaks in a sincere tone.

Oumou

Line 92) I know it may feel too soon to say this, but our relationship means a lot to me.

Ambrož speaks in a mutual manner, providing assurance.

He glances back at Oumou, smiling at her through his flustered demeanor.

Ambrož

Line 93) I-It means a lot to me, too*.

*Refer back to episode 26, line 26.

Oumou smiles at Ambrož wholesomely.

She stretches her body, yawning in exhaustion.

Ambrož observes Oumou’s tired state.

He speaks in a considerate tone.

Ambrož

Line 94) Let’s call it a night. You have work to head to tomorrow.

Oumou speaks in a manner of determination.

Oumou

Line 95) No way. We still have so much left to do.

Ambrož speaks pragmatically.

Ambrož

Line 96) It’s impossible to get everything done in one night.

Ambrož

Line 97) There’s always tomorrow, okay?

Ambrož sees Oumou out, bidding her goodbye at his door.

He speaks in an appreciative tone.

Ambrož

Line 98) Have a good night. Thank you for all your help. I’m very grateful for it.

Oumou leans into Ambrož, offering him a tight hug.

He glances at her in shock, not expecting an embrace so suddenly.

She pulls back, glancing at him sentimentally.

Oumou

Line 99) Sorry for not having a housewarming gift prepared for you today. I’ll promise to bring it tomorrow.

Oumou

Line 100) Have a good night, you. I wish you a cozy night’s sleep~

Ambrož chuckles at Oumou, waving her off as she exits his place.

End of episode.
