Episode 23:

The day is October 20th, 2004. It's a late Wednesday evening.

Ambrož reveals to Oumou that he put blood in her drink yesterday.

Oumou glances at Ambrož in disconcertion, speaking in a tone of disbelief.

Oumou

Line 1) W-What do you mean?

Ambrož speaks in a tone of guilt.

His eyebrows furrow in shame.

Ambrož

Line 2) I grabbed your kitchen knife and cut the palm of my hand to put blood into your drink*.

*Refer back to episode 20, details in between lines 21 and 22.

Oumou grabs Ambrož’s hand, looking at it in confusion from not noticing a cut mark.

She speaks in a nervous manner.

Oumou

Line 3) T-That’s not right. You would have had a cut on your hand if that were true*.

*Remember that vampires heal quickly (refer back to episode 4, line 95).

Ambrož glances at Oumou in remorse.

Oumou speaks in a tone of confusion.

Oumou

Line 4) Is this some kind of prank? There’s no evidence. I’m sure I would’ve tasted blood in my drink yesterday*.

*Refer back to episode 20, line 96.

Ambrož speaks in a truthful manner.

Ambrož

Line 5) I’m telling the truth. I just can’t explain any further.

Oumou speaks in a tone of disconcertion, harboring notes of disgust.

Oumou

Line 6) Why in the world would you put your blood in my drink?!

Ambrož speaks ashamedly.

Ambrož

Line 7) If I fully explain everything to you, I’d be revealing my secret. Is that okay?

Oumou lets out a sigh of irritation.

Oumou

Line 8) I am curious about how your blood in my drink relates to your secret, but I don't want you to feel obligated to tell me. I’ve already said that countless amounts of times*.

*Refer back to episode 22, lines 20-26, etc.

Oumou gets hit with a wave of realization.

Oumou

Line 9) It’s odd how your blood helped my allergy. I wonder why that is*.

*Remember that vampire blood has healing abilities (refer back to episode 2, line 18, etc).

Oumou glances at Ambrož in disbelief.

Line 10) Oumou’s inner thoughts: Honestly, why did his blood help? I’m sure he won’t explain that to me.

Oumou speaks in a disturbed manner.

Oumou

Line 11) I know I ended up agreeing to consume the drink regardless of what was in it, and you were apprehensive about giving it to me in the first place, but that’s because I didn’t fathom the thought that you’d put blood in it*.

*Refer back to episode 20, lines 24-60, etc.

Oumou

Line 12) Anyway, just don’t do that ever again. I don’t know your reasoning behind it, but it’s weird.

Ambrož looks at Oumou in shock.

Ambrož

Line 13) That’s it? You’re not mad at me?

Oumou speaks in a frustrated tone.

Oumou

Line 14) Oh, I’m most definitely mad at you for firstly lying, secondly deeming that just because you don’t think we can work out, we’re executively done for without taking into consideration my input on that, and the fact that you put your own bodily fluid in my drink. Who wouldn’t be frustrated in my position?

Oumou speaks in a forgiving manner.

Oumou

Line 15) But not only did you admit the whole truth to me, but you also seem very genuinely sorry, so I’m not necessarily blazing with fury.

Ambrož speaks in a disheartening tone.

Ambrož

Line 16) Those reasons you listed just now should be enough to not want to continue this relationship with me.

Oumou speaks in a lenient manner.

Oumou

Line 17) That’s what you think. Although I’m a bit skeptical about you after you’ve revealed your truth, I still think you deserve another chance.

Ambrož glances at Oumou in confusion.

Oumou speaks in an uncertain manner.

Oumou

Line 18) The good you’ve done slightly outweighs the bad, I suppose…

Oumou speaks expectantly.

Oumou

Line 19) If you can somehow redeem yourself, I don’t see why we couldn't give this another go.

Oumou

Line 20) It seems like you don’t want to, though.

Ambrož speaks in a confusing manner.

Ambrož

Line 21) I do, and I don’t. A part of me wants to continue what we’ve got going on because I’ve come to like you so much in the span of a couple of days, but another part of me is telling me to leave you out of this for the sake of your heart.

Ambrož

Line 22) I don’t want you to invest your time and effort into something unworthy. I might end up hurting you. It’s better to be safe than sorry, right?

Oumou glances at Ambrož puzzlingly.

Oumou

Line 23) You’re so complicated, Ambrož.

Oumou

Line 24) You do bring up a good point, though. I should really think this through if you’re being so persistent.

Ambrož speaks in a discouraging manner.

Ambrož

Line 25) Don’t think. I’m telling you not to go through with this. It’s for the better.

Ambrož

Line 26) Let me ask you this, do you want to forget me right now*?

*Ambrož is mentioning this because he has the power to compel people (refer back to episode 6, line 72, episode 11, line 95, etc).

Oumou looks at Ambrož in confusion.

Oumou

Line 27) Why do you ask such odd questions? I don’t know how to respond to that.

Ambrož speaks in an uncertain manner.

Ambrož

Line 28) I’m sorry. Since the both of us seem so uncertain, let’s just call it a day.

Ambrož speaks in an upsetting tone.

Ambrož

Line 29) I recommend that you don’t keep in touch with me, but if you change your mind, that’s of your own volition.

Ambrož

Line 30) I know this doesn’t make sense, but if you want to forget me, let me know.

Ambrož speaks awkwardly.

Ambrož

Line 31) Um. Should I take you home?

Oumou speaks in an insistent tone.

Oumou

Line 32) No. I’ll probably take the bus or call a taxi. You should get going.

Ambrož speaks in an apologetic manner.

Ambrož

Line 33) Whatever you deem best. Stay safe.

Ambrož walks away to his car, glancing back at Oumou upsettingly.

He reaches his car, getting situated in it.

He sadly starts driving to pick Přemysl up, feeling empty after his conversation with Oumou.

He arrives at Přemysl’s school, picking him up swiftly.

Přemysl happily enters the car, beaming with happiness.

Ambrož tries to swallow his feelings, painting a happy front for Přemysl.

Ambrož starts driving home, speaking in a friendly tone.

Ambrož

Line 34) Hey, there. How was school and the club meeting*?

*Refer back to episode 21, lines 41 and 42.

Přemysl speaks in a bubbly manner.

Přemysl

Line 35) School was meh, the club meeting was fun, though!

Ambrož speaks curiously.

Ambrož

Line 36) What did you guys do?

Přemysl speaks in a tone of excitement.

Přemysl

Line 37) Everyone got to introduce themselves to each other, and we all got to brainstorm what kind of events we wanted to start preparing for.

Přemysl

Line 38) Turns out, Theo* IS the club leader, so he took charge of communication between all of us.

*Remember that Theo is the friend Přemysl made at school during Chemistry class who offered him a flier for the occult club (refer back to episode 19, lines 75-87, etc).

Přemysl

Line 39) He’s really got a knack for it. He made sure to include everyone’s opinions on what we should do.

Ambrož speaks in an inquisitive manner.

Ambrož

Line 40) So, what did you guys decide on?

Přemysl

Line 41) Nothing is set in stone yet, but we’re planning to host an event on Halloween.

Přemysl

Line 42) By the way, we'll be meeting twice a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays, besides the event on Saturday. Sound good?

Ambrož nods his head.

Ambrož

Line 43) Are you sure about hosting an event on Halloween? Wouldn’t you want to go trick or treating, especially since it lands on Saturday this year?

Přemysl speaks in a let down manner.

Přemysl

Line 44) I'd gladly go trick or treating, but I'm afraid that I'd be rejected from any candy since I'm a "big kid".

Přemysl

Line 45) I’m sure they’d say something along the lines of “Aren’t you a bit old for trick or treating?”

Přemysl

Line 46) My school allows people to dress up for Halloween, so maybe I’ll do that just to be festive, even though I’d be dressing up on the day before.

Přemysl

Line 47) But, then again, I’m a bit hesitant because I don’t want to be the only one that dresses up.

Přemysl speaks in a curious manner.

Přemysl

Line 48) Anyway, enough about me. Did you settle things with Oumou*?

*Refer back to episode 19, lines 49-54.

Ambrož speaks in a melancholic tone.

Ambrož

Line 49) Uh, kind of. It’s really complicated.

Ambrož

Line 50) She’s thinking things through when I already told her that it’s over on my part*.

*Refer back to lines 24 and 25 of this episode.

Ambrož

Line 51) I guess I’ll just see what she says soon if she reaches out, but I’m trying my best to push her away.

Ambrož speaks in a regretful manner.

Ambrož

Line 52) I shouldn’t have gotten myself tangled up in this situation in the first place.

Přemysl speaks inquisitively.

Přemysl

Line 53) When you guys are definitively done with each other, what’s going to be your next approach?

Ambrož shrugs his shoulders.

Ambrož

Line 54) I’m not sure. Maybe I’ll just start working again.

Ambrož and Přemysl arrive home, unwinding and getting situated in bed.

Ambrož stares at his phone, slightly anticipating any notifications from Oumou.

He lets out a sigh of disappointment, burying himself under his sheets.

*Shot cuts to Oumou grabbing a taxi and driving to her apartment.

She looks out the taxi window, sadly staring outside, trying to process what’s happened between her and Ambrož.

Oumou’s narration:

Line 55) I don’t know how to feel.

Line 56) Should I be relieved that his true colors have come to the surface and make a run for it to save myself?

Line 57) Or should I give him another chance since we’ve already put so much effort into getting to know each other?

Line 58) I can’t believe that his name isn’t really Glyn.

Line 59) I also can’t believe that he’s been sneaking in white lies here and there, painting this false persona just for me.

Line 60) On top of that, it’s VERY bizarre that he fed me his own blood. I can’t believe it.

Oumou questions herself in confusion.

Line 61) But why am I not entirely mad at him?

Line 62) Why do I feel like he deserves another shot?

Line 63) Anyone in my shoes would have run the other way, so why am I still here for him?

Line 64) I get that I like him*, but why do I feel so tethered to him when we’ve only known each other for a few days?

*Refer back to episode 22, line 79.

Line 65) Sure, besides his flaws, he’s such a great guy, but I can’t disregard the red flags he’s admitted to*.

*Oumou’s response backfired (refer back to episode 20, line 43).

Line 66) But, for some reason, intuitively, I still feel like he’s a good guy deep inside*.

*Refer back to episode 20, line 45.

Line 67) And I still trust him for some reason, despite his wrongdoings.

Oumou rubs her head in distress.

Line 68) I’m too emotional right now to think rationally.

Line 69) I need more time to process this and then give him my verdict.

Line 70) What exactly is up with him though? Why does he claim he put blood in my drink, yet have no evidence of affliction on himself*?

*Refer back to line 3 of this episode.

Line 71) Also, why did he mention letting him know if I want to forget him*? He can’t do anything about that. Not unless he has a time machine of some sort.

*Refer back to lines 26 and 30 of this episode.

Line 72) He has too many secrets, and that’s not a good thing. He’s getting even more suspicious by the second.

Line 73) But why does something so forbidden seem so alluring?

Oumou finally arrives home, unwinding and getting situated in bed.

She glances at her phone, wanting to send Ambrož a text.

She stops herself, letting her restraint get the best of her.

Many days go by.

Ambrož’s narration:

Line 74) I guess Oumou made the choice not to reach back out to me after our last encounter since it’s been a couple of days.

Line 75) I tried to look past the situation, but I can’t help but feel heartbroken.

Line 76) We were never even together, so our discontinuation isn’t necessarily classified as a break up…

Line 77) Yet, I feel so upset over losing her.

Line 78) I get that it’s for the better, but I yearn for her company.

Line 79) I really DID want things to work out between us.

Line 80) But, ever since we stopped seeing each other, an old flame has been ignited within me.

Line 81) I’m even hungrier than before to get to the bottom of the cure for vampirism.

Line 82) Lately, I’ve been skedaddling all around Detroit to visit certain sites and meet certain people educated in the occult.

Line 83) Though I’ve been receiving dead ends left and right, these verdicts haven’t discouraged me.

Line 84) I can feel it in my gut that the cure is lurking about.

Line 85) I feel like I’m getting closer to discovering it each day.

Line 86) The sooner I get to the bottom, the sooner I can become a human again.

Line 87) Maybe then, Oumou can give me a shot, and I’ll have the chance to completely come clear to her about everything.

Line 88) That’s what's fueling me to find out the solution at the moment.

Line 89) I’ve had enough of this life. I deserve to live as a human.

Line 90) I want me and Přemysl to live the lives we weren’t able to.

Line 91) And I want to be there for Oumou, but I can only do that as a human.

Line 92) Therefore, my number one priority is getting to the bottom of our curse.

Line 93) Besides that, I’ve applied to a couple of jobs to work undercover.

Line 94) As important as searching for the cure myself is, maintaining human connection might lead to other possibilities.

Line 95) I just thought that through Oumou, I could kill two birds with one stone, getting her input on the cure to vampirism, hoping that it’ll get me closer to finding it, and truly being in a relationship with her.

Line 96) But falsely painting this picture that I’m really a human all for her sake isn’t right.

Line 97) However, simply doing that with co-workers, whom I won’t be able to closely establish a connection with, is fine with me.

Line 98) I've done it for years. I can most certainly slither my way back in*.

*Refer back to episode 8, line 8, etc.

Line 99) This way, nobody's heart and feelings are in jeopardy. Not even mine.

The day is October 23rd, 2004. It's a Saturday morning.

Ambrož gets ready for his job interview, finalizing his look in the mirror.

He gets his shoes on, getting ready to head out for the day when he gets a call from his phone.

Ambrož’s eyes bulge in shock as he examines the call contact coming from Oumou.

He contemplates answering, apprehensively glancing at his phone.

Line 100) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: … Should I pick up?

End of episode.
