Přemysl greets Ambrož in a manner of annoyance, questioning why he’s arriving home so late. Ambrož speaks in a defensive tone. Ambrož Line 1) I told you that I was going on a date with Oumou yesterday*. *Refer back to episode 11, line 56. Přemysl speaks in a sarcastic manner. Přemysl Line 2) You should’ve just slept over if you knew you were going to be coming home so late. Ambrož considers the thought, slightly blushing from the remark. Line 3) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I wouldn’t mind sleeping over at Oumou’s, but we’re taking things slow. Přemysl speaks in an offended tone. Přemysl Line 4) I didn’t think you’d be gone for so long, so I waited until you’d be back to go shopping for school supplies. Přemysl Line 5) But you never got back to me, so I had to call for a ride and go shopping by myself. Ambrož speaks in a manner of confusion. Ambrož Line 6) You should’ve called me. Přemysl speaks in a tone of irritation. Přemysl Line 7) I did, but you didn’t respond! Ambrož glances at his phone to verify Přemysl’s attempts, noticing the notifications of missed calls coming up on his phone. Ambrož speaks in an apologetic manner. Ambrož Line 8) Ahh… That’s my bad. Ambrož Line 9) My phone was on silent. I got carried away, Přem. I’m sorry. Přemysl speaks in a grudgeful tone, rolling his eyes from Ambrož’s irresponsibility. Přemysl Line 10) Whatever. Just know that I’m relying on you for transportation. Přemysl speaks in a snappy tone. Přemysl Line 11) You better be able to pick me up and drop me off for school on time, got it? Ambrož speaks in a genuine manner. Ambrož Line 12) Got it. You can count on me. Přemysl defends his reasoning passionately. Přemysl Line 13) Listen, I’d drive myself anywhere for all I care, but I can’t because I look 15. Přemysl Line 14) Which is why you have to help me out with that. I don’t want to rely on cabs and whatnot when I have you. Ambrož speaks in an agreeable tone. Ambrož Line 15) That’s valid. I’ll do my best. Přemysl crosses his arms, tilting his head to the side in curiosity as to why Ambrož came back home so late. Přemysl Line 16) What do you mean you got “carried away”? Přemysl Line 17) You spent the whole day with Oumou. Here I thought you two were going on a simple date. Přemysl Line 18) A date should last around an hour or so. You were gone for 10. What did you do? Ambrož explains himself. Ambrož Line 19) I should’ve elaborated on what our “date” was going to be like. Ambrož Line 20) Yesterday when I was driving Oumou home after she got drenched from the rain, delaying her making it on time for our date, the both of us talked and decided on planning a hangout at her place*. *Refer back to episode 10, lines 97 and 98. Ambrož Line 21) She recently moved to Detroit just like us, so was dealing with some last-minute moving duties and I helped her out with that today*. *Refer back to episode 10, line 90. Ambrož Line 22) That’s what I meant by “going on a date” with her*. *Refer back to episode 11, line 56. Ambrož Line 23) I would’ve explained some more, but you were headed to sleep, and I didn’t want to bug you*. Line 24) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Plus, Přemysl was most certainly not in the mood to hear my explanation after he opened up about how he was feeling burnt out by our chase on finding the cure to vampirism*. *Refer back to episode 11, line 17, etc. Přemysl holds his head distressfully, shaking his head no in disapproval. Přemysl Line 25) Just what are you trying to accomplish hanging out with her this way? Ambrož feels put on the spot, speaking in a nervous manner. Ambrož Line 26) T-This is my way of continuing to enact our goal on finding the cure to vampirism*. You already know this. *Refer back to episode 9, line 8. Přemysl speaks in a trivial tone. Přemysl Line 27) Okay… What have you uncovered so far by hanging out with Oumou? Přemysl awaits Ambrož’s answer impatiently, glancing at him in a doubtful manner. Ambrož speaks in a worrisome tone. Ambrož Line 28) Obviously, nothing yet. We’ve only known each other for less than 2 days. Přemysl speaks in a nosey manner. Přemysl Line 29) So, then, what do you guys even talk about? Ambrož speaks in a tone of irritation, not understanding why Přemysl is suddenly pressing him about this topic. Ambrož Line 30) Regular things to get to know each other. I can’t throw a bunch of vampire stuff on her from the get go. I have to ease into things. Ambrož Line 31) You’re doing the same thing. Last I checked, the whole point of you enrolling into school is to make “fake friends” to talk with and eventually ask about this manner*. *Refer back to episode 8, lines 59-63. Ambrož Line 32) I’m doing the same thing in a different sense. I thought we’ve been over this. Přemysl approaches Ambrož closely, intently making eye contact with him, wondering if that’ll make him crack under pressure. Ambrož raises his eyebrows in confusion, glancing back at Přemysl indifferently. Přemysl speaks in an assertive manner. Přemysl Line 33) Don’t get too close with her. Mark my words. Přemysl Line 34) I know you well, Ambrož. Don’t go behind my back. Ambrož rolls his eyes in annoyance. Ambrož Line 35) How many times do you have to remind me? I’ve got this protocol well-ingrained in my mind because you constantly pester me*. *Refer back to episode 11, line 57. Ambrož Line 36) We’ve been doing this for decades. I know how things run. Přemysl speaks in a persistent manner. Přemysl Line 37) Then, continue to oblige. With the way you’ve been acting lately, you’re making me suspect you. Ambrož speaks in a dismissive manner. Ambrož Line 38) I’ve got this. Don’t worry about me. Ambrož Line 39) Worry about yourself. You’ve got school to go to tomorrow. Ambrož speaks sternly. Ambrož Line 40) Don’t think that it’ll be easy. Přemysl speaks in a confident tone. Přemysl Line 41) I’m prepared. I’m counting on you to drop me off and pick me up tomorrow. Přemysl heads upstairs, going to sleep in his room. Ambrož drops his tense shoulders, letting out a sigh of exhaustion. Line 42) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: As much as I love Přemysl, he’s starting to become annoying with his constant reminders to put me in check for our protocol on not getting close to humans. Line 43) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Though he’s suspecting me for all the right reasons, I wish he’d just mind his own business. My pursuits with Oumou don't concern him. Line 44) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I’ll prove to him that there isn’t any harm in getting close to people. Ambrož unwinds, situating himself in bed to head to sleep. He stares at the ceiling, having confusing feelings of happiness and guilt circulate in his gut. Line 45) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Going against him is fine. It’s not like I’m doing anything bad. Plus, me and Oumou really hit it off. Ambrož nods off to sleep, rolling the next day around. The day is October 18th, 2004. It's a Monday morning. Přemysl pokes Ambrož awake in frustration, looming over him sleeping. Ambrož opens his eyes, flinching from Přemysl being awfully close to him. He speaks in a restless voice. Ambrož Line 46) … Do you think you could back up a bit? Přemysl speaks in an irritated manner. Přemysl Line 47) Why the heck are you still sleeping?! Ambrož gets hit with the realization of their dynamics for the week, his eyes widening from his self-awareness. Line 48) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: How did it slip my mind to set an alarm? Ambrož speaks in an apologetic tone. Ambrož Line 49) I’m sorry. I forgot we’d be dealing with this. Přemysl takes in a deep breath, trying to contain his composure. He speaks in a snappy tone. Přemysl Line 50) … Be ready in ten minutes or I’ll be late to school. Přemysl stomps his way out of Ambrož’s room in a rage. He glances back at him aggressively, speaking in a hostile tone. Přemysl Line 51) Pull yourself together, Ambrož! Přemysl slams the door shut abruptly, jolting Ambrož’s body. Ambrož rubs his head in distress. Line 52) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Why can’t he just take the bus? Ambrož swiftly gets ready for the day, making his way down the stairs near the living room. He spots Přemysl impatiently waiting for Ambrož to be finished with his routine. Přemysl glances at Ambrož in relief. The both of them make their way outside, getting situated in Ambrož’s car. Ambrož punches in the GPS location of Přemysl’s highschool, starting to drive to the school. A couple of minutes of silence go on between them. Přemysl stubbornly stares out the window, disregarding Ambrož’s presence. Ambrož strikes a conversation, speaking in an apologetic tone. Ambrož Line 53) I already apologized for waking up late. I didn’t intend to slack off. Ambrož glances at Přemysl, noticing the fact that he’s ignoring him. Ambrož Line 54) Can’t a guy make a mistake? I’m not perfect. Ambrož speaks in a genuine manner. Ambrož Line 55) Look. It won’t happen again. I’ll be on point from now on. Ambrož Line 56) I know how much enacting our plans means to you. Don’t think that I’m dismissing your efforts. Přemysl continues to stay silent, not batting an eye at Ambrož. Ambrož speaks in an apprehensive manner. Ambrož Line 57) This is kind of off topic, but I already assigned a name for you here. Přemysl swerves his head at Ambrož abruptly, finally gaining his attention. Přemysl speaks in a manner of offense. Přemysl Line 58) I already came up with an alias for myself. Ambrož speaks in a nervous tone. Ambrož Line 59) I’m sorry, but you can’t use it. Přemysl speaks in a tone of refusal, passionately questioning Ambrož. Přemysl Line 60) Why not?! Ambrož Line 61) Because on my date with Oumou yesterday, she asked me if I had any siblings and I told her that I have a younger brother named Orlin*. *Refer back to episode 12, line 84. Přemysl speaks in a frightful tone. Přemysl Line 62) ORLIN?! Ambrož tries to speak in a reassuring manner. Ambrož Line 63) What’s so bad about it? Solid name if you ask me. Přemysl speaks in a passionate tone of dismay. Přemysl Line 64) Gosh! I HATE it! Ambrož speaks in an apologetic manner. Ambrož Line 65) I didn’t think you’d react this way. I’m sorry you don’t like it, but it’s too late to change it. Přemysl speaks in a tone of irritation. Přemysl Line 66) I’m already registered under the school with the alias I previously picked out! Ambrož speaks in a nervous manner. Ambrož Line 67) J-Just say it was a mistake. Problem fixed. Přemysl rubs his head in distress. Přemysl Line 68) I feel like you’re purposefully trying to piss me off lately. Ambrož denies Přemysl’s assumption, speaking in a reassuring tone. Ambrož Line 69) Those aren’t my intentions. Things just haven’t been setting sail as smoothly as I’ve anticipated. Ambrož speaks in a tone of remorse. Ambrož Line 70) I’m sorry that I’ve made you mad. Přemysl rolls his eyes, turning his gaze back onto the car window. Ambrož and Přemysl finally arrive at school, with Ambrož coming to a stop to drop off Přemysl. Ambrož Line 71) Change the name you’re registered under at school to Orlin Ourman*. *Refer back to episode 9, line 28. Ambrož speaks in a cheerful tone. Ambrož Line 72) I wish you the best of luck today. I hope everything falls into place for you. Přemysl glances at Ambrož dismissively. He speaks in a stern voice. Přemysl Line 73) Pick me up on time while I’m asking nicely. Přemysl exits Ambrož’s car, slamming the car door shut. Ambrož flinches from the abrupt gesture, letting out a sigh of distress. Ambrož makes his way to the grocery store, shopping for essentials, then making his way back home. Ambrož tidies up the house, preparing dinner for him and Přemysl (animal blood). Some time passes with Ambrož getting a notification reminder to pick up Přemysl. Ambrož drives to Přemysl’s school, picking him up cheerfully. Přemysl enters bluntly, not intending to greet Ambrož, continuing to feel bitter from the discord they had in the morning. Ambrož speaks in a cheerful tone. Ambrož Line 74) Hey! How’d school go? Přemysl speaks in a tone of indifference. Přemysl Line 75) It went fine. Ambrož speaks in a curious tone. Ambrož Line 76) Were you able to change your name successfully? Přemysl speaks in a bitter manner. Přemysl Line 77) Yes… Like a fool. Ambrož speaks in an apologetic tone. Ambrož Line 78) I’m sorry for causing you trouble with that earlier. Ambrož changes the topic, speaking in a happy manner. Ambrož Line 79) Did you end up liking your classes? Are your teachers good? Přemysl responds in a bitter tone. Přemysl Line 80) I suppose. Ambrož speaks in a curious manner. Ambrož Line 81) Were you able to make any new friends? Přemysl stays silent. Ambrož speaks in a tone of concern. Ambrož Line 82) Is everything okay? Přemysl speaks in a dismissive manner. Přemysl Line 83) I don’t want to talk about it. Ambrož swerves the topic, speaking inquisitively about another manner, sensing Přemysl’s tone. Ambrož Line 84) Okay… Are you thinking of joining any clubs? Přemysl shrugs his shoulders. Ambrož takes Přemysl’s demeanor as a means not to ask any further questions. The drive home harbors awkward tensions from the empty silence engulfing the car. The both of them arrive home, with Přemysl opening up his side of the door to exit the car. Ambrož stays in the car, set to go elsewhere. Přemysl glances at him in confusion. Přemysl Line 85) You’re not coming home? Ambrož Line 86) Not just yet. I’ll be back later in the day. Přemysl speaks in a manner of annoyance. Přemysl Line 87) Let me guess, you’re going to meet Oumou? Ambrož hesitantly nods his head, feeling apprehensive. Přemysl rolls his eyes, set to walk away. Ambrož brings up a subject that stops him in his tracks. Ambrož Line 88) I bought cupcakes! Přemysl glances back at Ambrož. Ambrož happily gazes back at him. Ambrož Line 89) Consider it my apology gift for the way I’ve been acting lately. Ambrož Line 90) I know we don’t have to eat human food*, but it still tastes good. There’s no harm. *Refer back to episode 6, line 73 (when vampires consume human food, it disappears in their stomach, completely dissipating into nothing. They can eat it regularly, but their body doesn’t gain energy from it to fuel the body, unlike blood). Ambrož speaks in a cheerful manner, hoping to lighten Přemysl’s spirits. Ambrož Line 91) Cheer up, you! We’ll talk more about what happened today when I get back. Don’t be so gloomy. Ambrož drives off, heading to Oumou’s job. He arrives, noticing the bustling environment of the restaurant beaming in the afternoon. Line 92) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Jeez! That’s a lot of people. Ambrož manages to squeeze his way through the restaurant, hearing music beam from within. He notices Oumou standing on stage with a bunch of other musicians, slightly warming up before performing in front of various people in the restaurant eating. Ambrož happily smiles at Oumou, feeling relieved to spot her. Her gaze slightly swerves his direction and he ducks, hoping she won’t notice him in the crowd*. *Refer back to episode 14, line 87. The ambient lights turn off, with the spotlight projecting onto Oumou, signifying the start of the performance. The various attendees lower their voices, executing proper etiquette when observing the performance. Oumou smiles at everyone in the crowd, feeling confident with their support. She speaks in an appreciative manner. Oumou Line 93) Thank you all for coming out here on this beautiful Monday afternoon to hear me sing. Oumou Line 94) Without further ado, please enjoy the performance. Oumou starts singing, with the jazz performers beside her chiming in with their instruments. Ambrož intently listens to Oumou sing, savoring the moment. Ambrož’s narration: Line 95) I felt so many butterflies fluttering in my stomach. Line 96) Though the performance was merely a concert, for some reason I felt so touched. Line 97) It seemed so intimate and sentimental, my ears were blessed with her amazing singing. Line 98) Her melody struck me to the core, enlightening a part of me I had no idea existed. Line 99) The amount of passion she radiates is beautiful.
