Episode 13:

The day is October 17th, 2004. It’s a Sunday afternoon.

Oumou and Ambrož continue on with their tasks (assembling a desk and organizing clothes).

Oumou blushes from Ambrož’s charismatic support.

She speaks in an affectionate manner.

Oumou

Line 1) You’re so sweet~ I don’t think I’ve ever met such a nice person.

Ambrož blushes, finding Oumou’s remark flustering.

Oumou

Line 2) … It kind of makes me wonder what the catch is.

Oumou realizes her slip-up.

She speaks in an apologetic tone.

Oumou

Line 3) I’m so sorry. That came out blunt.

Ambrož speaks in a reassuring manner.

Ambrož

Line 4) D-Don’t worry. You don’t have to apologize.

A couple seconds of awkward silence go on between them.

Oumou speaks in a manner of guilt.

Oumou

Line 5) Sorry. I didn’t mean to project anything onto you like that.

Ambrož speaks in a forgiving tone, expressing assurance.

Ambrož

Line 6) It really is fine. I’m totally okay.

Ambrož speaks in a nervous manner, trying to validate Oumou.

Ambrož

Line 7) I wouldn’t necessarily categorize the way I’m behaving with you as really nice, but I can get where you’re coming from, thinking it’s suspicious.

Ambrož

Line 8) I’ve definitely felt the same way as you.

Oumou lets out a chuckle.

Ambrož stares at her in confusion, smiling in a nervous way.

Oumou speaks in a manner of amusement.

Oumou

Line 9) You’re quite bashful too. That’s cute~

Ambrož blushes.

Oumou continues explaining herself.

Oumou

Line 10) Not, but really, I’m sorry if I came off weird just then.

Ambrož speaks in a reassuring manner.

Ambrož

Line 11) You’ve already apologized three times.

Oumou speaks in a sincere tone.

Oumou

Line 12) I really mean it, though. I’m just being salty.

Oumou speaks in an offended manner.

Oumou

Line 13) This whole week with me moving and whatnot has kind of caused a rift between me and my friends.

A somber expression comes along Oumou’s face.

Oumou

Line 14) None of them have gotten back to me first about how I’ve been settling in.

Oumou

Line 15) I’m the one who had to initiate conversation, and on the latter, my efforts aren’t returned. All I got back were dry texts from all of my friends. Not even a single phone call.

Oumou

Line 16) I know it’s only been one week ever since I moved, but I just assumed they’d keep in touch.

Oumou speaks in a hopeless manner.

Oumou

Line 17) But if they’re not able to even keep in touch only after I’ve just moved, what makes me think they’ll keep in touch anytime soon after I’ve lived here for a while?

Oumou gets hit with a wave of realization.

Line 18) Oumou’s inner thoughts: I totally just aired out my dirty laundry.

Line 19) Oumou’s inner thoughts: Why am I oversharing with someone that I’ve only just met?

Oumou’s eyebrows furrow, feeling embarrassed by her actions.

Line 20) Oumou’s inner thoughts: I’m sure he feels uncomfortable hearing this on his end.

Oumou speaks in a dismissive tone.

Oumou

Line 21) I’m sorry. Just forget what I said"

Ambrož chimes into the conversation, speaking in a sympathetic manner.

Ambrož

Line 22) I’m sorry that you’re dealing with that.

Oumou glances at Ambrož intently.

Ambrož speaks in a tone of consolation.

Ambrož

Line 23) I’m sure their support right now could completely turn your day around. You deserve it. I’m sorry you’re not getting it.

Ambrož speaks in an understanding manner.

Ambrož

Line 24) Unfortunately, those things just kind of happen.

Ambrož

Line 25) When you move, there’s like this barrier between you and everything you left.

Ambrož

Line 26) Things just drift. There’s nothing you can do about it if the other side doesn’t care as much to mend things.

Ambrož

Line 27) There’s nothing difficult about keeping in touch with someone, so I’m just as confused as you are about why things like this happen.

Ambrož

Line 28) But they just do. It is what it is.

Ambrož speaks in a hopeful tone.

Ambrož

Line 29) It’ll take some time for you to get over it, but you eventually will, and everything will be alright.

Ambrož

Line 30) The right people in your life would make an effort to speak with you, no matter how many miles you are away from them.

Oumou stares at Ambrož in a sentimental manner, his words touching her deeply.

She speaks in a tone of defeat.

Oumou

Line 31) I guess they just weren’t right for me, huh?

Ambrož

Line 32) They could still reach out, but I think the fact that they didn't do so just after you moved says a lot about the “support” you'll continue receiving.

Ambrož

Line 33) I personally would have reached out to you the second you flew into Michigan.

Oumou’s eyes melt from Ambrož’s sweet words.

A frantic expression comes across Ambrož’s face.

Line 34) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: What am I talking about?

Line 35) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Why am I speaking to Oumou as if I know her personally?

Line 36) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: It’s weird to talk with her like we’ve been friends for years.

Line 37) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: But, then again, why did that remark come out so naturally for me?

Oumou speaks in a playful manner.

Oumou

Line 38) You better keep your word then, Glyn. I’ve got some high standards for you.

Ambrož

Line 39) Oh, come on. Doing something like that is the bare minimum.

Oumou speaks in an appreciative tone.

Oumou

Line 40) Thank you for reassuring me. I feel less sad now.

Ambrož speaks in an affectionate manner.

Ambrož

Line 41) No need to thank me. I’m always here if you need me to lend you an ear.

Oumou smiles at Ambrož in an admirable way.

Oumou

Line 42) I’ve actually been a bit in denial about my friendly dynamics.

Oumou speaks in a depressing tone.

Oumou

Line 43) I kept telling myself that these people were my real friends, when in actuality, they don’t even pass the test of staying in touch with me after I move.

Oumou

Line 44) In retrospect, I think this measure from them is kind of valid because I was just strung along throughout our “friendships.”

Oumou

Line 45) I was just kind of there. Apart from the friend group, but not really anybody’s friend if that makes sense.

Oumou

Line 46) The best way to describe it is that I’m the kind of friend who walks on the side of the sidewalk while the rest walk hip to hip.

Oumou rubs her head in a distressing manner.

Oumou

Line 47) I was just really hoping one of them could prove me wrong about my exclusion.

Oumou

Line 48) I guess I have too much faith in people.

Ambrož speaks in an understanding manner.

Ambrož

Line 49) It’s good to have faith in people. Believe in the good. Go into things with positive intentions.

Ambrož

Line 50) I know that constantly doing that and not receiving anything on the other end can feel exhausting after a while, but it’s worth it because you’ll end up meeting someone who can truly match the faith you believe in them.

Ambrož

Line 51) Your good will come back to you in tenfold.

Oumou glances at Ambrož in a sappy manner.

Line 52) Oumou’s inner thoughts: I should most definitely stop venting to him, but I’m glad he’s established that I can come to him for support.

Line 53) Oumou’s inner thoughts: That makes me feel very welcomed.

Oumou blushes, speaking in a grateful tone.

Oumou

Line 54) I really appreciate your input on this matter. Thank you.

Ambrož offers Oumou a wholesome smile.

Ambrož

Line 55) It’s no problem.

Oumou

Line 56) Have you considered going into psychology? You’re quite good at this stuff.

A nervous expression comes along Ambrož’s face.

Line 57) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: That’s just because I’m old.

Ambrož

Line 58) To be honest, I actually have considered it, but it takes years of schooling to become a psychologist.

Ambrož

Line 59) That doesn't seem like something I'd be committed to.

Ambrož speaks in a daunting tone.

Ambrož

Line 60) Imagine the amount of textbooks I’d have to crack open.

Oumou chuckles.

Oumou

Line 61) You make a good point.

Oumou speaks in an intriguing manner.

Oumou

Line 62) It’s such an interesting field, though. Humans have such complex emotions.

Oumou

Line 63) Understanding something like that seems simple, but it's actually much more complicated than we realize.

Oumou

Line 64) It’s honestly really overwhelming.

Ambrož chuckles.

Ambrož

Line 65) Even then. There’s so much we don’t know.

Ambrož

Line 66) That can apply to anything. For example, did you know that we only know less than 5% of history?

Oumou’s face morphs into an expression of shock.

She speaks in a tone of surprise.

Oumou

Line 67) Now way! Is that really true?!

Ambrož speaks in a manner of amusement, finding Oumou’s reaction wholesome.

Ambrož

Line 68) Yeah. Everything else has been lost through time.

Ambrož

Line 69) Everything we already know is overwhelming enough, but knowing that it’s less than 5% is even crazier to fathom.

Ambrož speaks in a manner of passionate curiosity.

Ambrož

Line 70) Imagine all the things we don’t know.

Ambrož

Line 71) Discovering even a trace of new history could change the trajectory of humanity as we know it.

Ambrož

Line 72) I’m most definitely reaching, but you get the point, right?

Oumou laughs, nodding her head in assurance.

She gleams at Ambrož in interest.

Ambrož

Line 73) Kind of going hand in hand with history, did you know that we’ve only discovered 5% of the ocean?

Oumou’s eyes bulge in surprise.

Oumou

Line 74) What’s up with all this 5% talk?!

Oumou

Line 75) What else could be out there?!

Ambrož speaks in an intriguing tone.

Ambrož

Line 76) Anything. That’s kind of the beauty of the unknown, but definitely the scary part of the unknown as well.

Oumou

Line 77) Does that mean there’s a chance that mermaids exist?

Ambrož ponders Oumou’s question in a serious manner.

Line 78) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Honestly, if vampires exist, I wouldn’t be surprised if mermaids exist too.

An expression of fear comes across Ambrož’s face.

Line 79) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: The real question I should be asking myself is why I’m just getting hit with that realization now? Hello! We’re 162 years late*!

*Refer back to episode 12, line 38.

Line 80) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: If vampires exist, what are the chances that other supernatural beings such as werewolves, witches, and ghosts exist too?

Ambrož shakes his head in a dismissive manner.

Line 81) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: There’s no use in pondering something out of my control. It’s a shower thought for another day. Let’s save the trouble of having an unnecessary headache.

Ambrož

Line 82) Who knows? There might be a whole city of Atlantis down in the Mariana Trench where two mermaids are having a conversation just like us right now.

Oumou laughs, speaking in a tone of excitement.

Oumou

Line 83) That’d be awesome!

Oumou speaks in a manner of interest.

Oumou

Line 84) What about the megalodon? Do you think it really went extinct?

Ambrož speaks in an apprehensive manner.

Ambrož

Line 85) Hate to break it to you, but I think they’re definitely goners.

Ambrož

Line 86) Such a prehistoric species would not be able to withstand the way our oceans are now. The climate isn’t suitable enough for them.

Oumou speaks in a curious tone.

Oumou

Line 87) That poses a question as to why cockroaches have been around since way back when.

Oumou

Line 88) Literally dinosaurs have gone extinct, yet cockroaches were able to survive the meteors that killed them, continuing to evolve over time and outlive various organisms.

Oumou

Line 89) Of course, you can’t compare a cockroach to a megalodon, but it’s anticlimactic that a megalodon wasn’t able to outlive a cockroach.

Ambrož and Oumou chuckle together.

Ambrož speaks in a validating manner.

Ambrož

Line 90) I get what you mean.

Oumou speaks in an inquisitive tone.

Oumou

Line 91) What about outer space? How much have we discovered?

Ambrož speaks in a playful tone.

Ambrož

Line 92) Would you be surprised if I said less than 5% again?

Oumou chuckles, shaking her head no.

Oumou

Line 93) That just confirms that aliens are most likely out there.

Ambrož

Line 94) Aren't we considered aliens to the aliens?

Oumou chuckles.

Oumou

Line 95) That’s a good point.

Oumou

Line 96) What do you think they look like?

Ambrož

Line 97) I feel like they look exactly like the green mascot we’ve thought of with the big black beady eyes.

Oumou speaks in a manner of surprise.

Oumou

Line 98) Really? You don’t think they’d look more like us?

Ambrož

Line 99) They could. But I find it suspicious that the default version of what we think an alien looks like looks the way it does.

Ambrož speaks in a passionate tone.

Ambrož

Line 100) How did someone come up with that? Of course it could be their creative imagination...

Ambrož

Line 101) But what if it’s because they based it off of a real alien?

Ambrož gives Oumou a smug face.

She nods her head in an understanding manner, agreeing with his point.

She speaks in a tone of fascination.

Oumou

Line 102) All this talk makes me question so much.

Oumou speaks in a curious manner.

Oumou

Line 103) What about supernatural beings?

Oumou

Line 104) Like vampires, witches, ghosts, werewolves. Do you think they’re real?

End of Episode.
