Anything () is extra information. ____________________________________________________________ Episode 9: The day is October 16th, 2004. It’s a Saturday evening. Ambrož gets ready for his date, getting dressed in a white long-sleeve polo paired with a brown suit vest and burgundy tie, brown dress pants, and a beige trench coat with plaid on the inside. He combs his blonde hair out, letting its fluffy, wavy, medium-length style flourish. Ambrož walks towards the exit of the house, putting on his dress shoes that match with his outfit. After he finishes, he quickly glances at himself in the mirror for assurance (they have a mirror near their exit door). Chilling in the living room couch, Přemysl looks at Ambrož, rolling his eyes in annoyance and he watches Ambrož check himself out near their exit door. Přemysl Line 1) I can’t believe you got someone to match with you. Ambrož chuckles. Ambrož Line 2) Why is that so hard to believe? Quit being such a hater. Přemysl Line 3) I just don’t understand why someone would go out of their way to date someone that isn’t even committed. Přemysl speaks in a skeptical tone. Přemysl Line 4) That is what you put in your dating profile bio, right? Something along the lines of “no strings attached.” After all, you’re the one who said you want your relationship to be built on trust*. *Refer back to episode 8, line 84. Ambrož speaks in a nervous manner. Ambrož Line 5) O-Of course. And I’m keeping my word. Who starts a relationship off with lies? Line 6) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Of course, I didn’t put a corny phrase like “no strings attached” in my dating bio. Line 7) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Not only does a phrase like that make me seem like a total player, but I’d get no matches. Line 8) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Either way, my intentions for going on this date are not to get intel on finding the cure to vampirism like Přemysl thinks; it’s for me to date someone in a serious context. Line 9) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: If Přemysl knew that, he wouldn’t allow me to date, which is why I’m keeping things on the down low by lying to him. Line 10) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: It doesn’t feel good to lie, but this is the only way I can finally have some normalcy in my life. There aren’t any other loopholes. Přemysl speaks in a manner of annoyance. Přemysl Line 11) Get going already, or are you just going to stare at yourself all day? Ambrož speaks in a playfully offended tone. Ambrož Line 12) Jeez. What’s the rush? I’m just examining my appearance. I obviously want to look my best. First impressions are memorable. Ambrož thinks to himself, noticing something off. He places his hand on his chin, in deep contemplation. Ambrož Line 13) I feel like I’m forgetting something. Ambrož gets struck with realization. He quickly rushes into his room to get his item. He comes back out, with a pair of glasses in his hand. He glances at himself in the mirror, placing the glasses on. Přemysl looks at Ambrož in confusion. Přemysl Line 14) What the heck are the fake glasses for? Ambrož speaks in a confident tone. Ambrož Line 15) I bought them earlier when I was shopping for my outfit. Přemysl raises his eyebrows in a puzzling manner. Přemysl Line 16) But, why? You have the eyes of a hawk*. *Vampirism heightens your senses; thus, your vision will be enhanced to the max (refer back to episode 3, line 25, etc). Ambrož Line 17) I saw a model in the store wearing these thick black squared frames and thought that they’d look good on me. Ambrož Line 18) They provide UV protection, so the specs aren’t entirely useless. Ambrož speaks in a manner of delight, feeling satisfied by his appearance. Ambrož Line 19) I feel like I look more sophisticated with these bad boys on. What do you think? Přemysl speaks in a tone of agitation. Přemysl Line 20) You look like a nerd. Přemysl Line 21) I bet your date will be pretty bummed out when she thinks you’ve got smarts, but you’re really just an airhead. Ambrož corrects Přemysl in a snarky manner. Ambrož Line 22) I’ll have you know that I was at the top of my class back in the day before I dropped out*. *Refer back to episode 1, line 75. Ambrož Line 23) And school was much harder in the 1800s than today, so I’m no airhead, thank you very much. Přemysl rolls his eyes. Přemysl Line 24) What alias* will you go by? *Ambrož and Přemysl use fake names in each state they move to to conceal their identities (refer back to episode 8, line 8). Ambrož speaks in a playful manner. Ambrož Line 25) I was thinking of Edward. I feel like that name goes with my aesthetic. Přemysl rolls his eyes, speaking in a dismissive tone. Přemysl Line 26) You’re joking, right? Way to put the O in obvious for when it comes to you being a vampire. Přemysl speaks in a curious manner. Přemysl Line 27) I’m being serious. What’s your name going to be? Ambrož Line 28) Glyn Ourman. Přemysl gives Ambrož a look of pleasant surprise. Přemysl Line 29) That’s got a ring to it. Přemysl Line 30) Anyways, who’s the girl you matched up with? You didn’t let me ask since you rushed out of the house this morning to go shopping, saying you matched with someone on a dating app. Ambrož smacks his head in realization. Ambrož Line 31) Right. I forgot to tell you about her. Line 32) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I’ve been so antsy about the date all day that it slipped my mind to keep Přemysl posted on things. Ambrož approaches Přemysl, showing him a picture of his date, from her profile on the dating app they match up on. The picture is of his date, standing next to the eiffel tower, wearing a glittery dress. Přemysl looks at the photo in shock. Přemysl Line 33) Wow! Is she some sort of model or something? Ambrož speaks in a smitten tone. Ambrož Line 34) She’s a musician~ Přemysl speaks in a curious manner. Přemysl Line 35) What’s her name? Ambrož Line 36) Oumou Sao. Přemysl Line 37) How old is she? Ambrož Line 38) Twenty. Přemysl Line 39) How did you get her to go on a date with you? Ambrož Line 40) It’s simple, really. The dating app pretty much did all the work. Ambrož Line 41) We just matched based on the same interests. Ambrož Line 42) Then, I sent her a message introducing myself to her, blah blah blah. Ambrož Line 43) I cut to the chase, saying that I’d like to meet up and asking if she was free on Saturday to go on a date with me for dinner, and she agreed. That’s it. Přemysl speaks in a manner of doubt. Přemysl Line 44) It can’t be that easy. Ambrož speaks in a tone of determination. Ambrož Line 45) It’s not. We’re just going on a date. I still have to win her over as my girlfriend. Ambrož Line 46) If I don’t wow her today, she’ll be done with me for sure. Ambrož Line 47) Which is why I have to make my charms work. Přemysl rolls his eyes. Přemysl Line 48) You should get going. You wouldn’t want to be late. Ambrož Line 49) You’re right. I’m gonna head out. Ambrož speaks in a tone of seeking assurance. Ambrož Line 50) Wish me luck! Přemysl speaks in an uncertain manner. Přemysl Line 51) Good luck… Ambrož exits the house, getting into his car to drive to the date. Ambrož arrives at the dinner site, being led by a host to his reserved spot. He seats himself down, glancing around the fancy restaurant with butterflies fluttering in his stomach. A waiter approaches Ambrož’s table, speaking in a friendly manner. Waiter Line 52) Can I get something started for you to drink? Ambrož Line 53) Can I order later? I’m waiting for someone. Waiter Line 54) Sure. I’ll swing by in a bit. Ambrož shakes his leg to get rid of his jitters, waiting for Oumou to make it to their date. An hours goes by with Ambrož waiting in confusion. Ambrož glances at his messages to Oumou, sending another one to her about their date. Line 55) Ambrož’s text message: Hey. Are there complications with your arrival? If so, let me know and I’ll help you out. The waiter swings by Ambrož’s table once again. Waiter Line 56) Do you still want to hold on ordering anything? Ambrož speaks in a dejected tone. Ambrož Line 57) Yeah… The waiter speaks in a consoling manner. Waiter Line 58) Are you waiting for a date? Ambrož Line 59) Yeah. They’re an hour late and haven’t texted me back. The waiter speaks in a suggestive tone. Waiter Line 60) It could be because of the weather. Ambrož glances at the waiter in confusion. Ambrož Line 61) What’s up with the weather? Waiter Line 62) It’s been raining heavily. Ambrož Line 63) Oh… I see… Ambrož Line 64) How much longer do you think I should wait? Waiter Line 65) I’d wait another 30 minutes. Surely, your date should be able to make it by then, even if it’s raining. Ambrož nods his head, and the waiter leaves his table. Ambrož waits another 30 minutes, scrolling through his phone hopelessly, glancing at the unread messages he sent to Oumou. Line 66) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I think this is what they call being “stood up.” Line 67) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Even though it’s raining cats and dogs outside, it shouldn’t take someone more than an hour to make it to a date. Line 68) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I guess I just didn’t make the cut then. Ambrož droops his head in defeat, feeling sad. The waiter swings by his table again, glancing at Ambrož in a sympathetic manner. Waiter Line 69) Are you going to wait longer for your date? Ambrož speaks in a somber tone. Ambrož Line 70) No. I think I’ve been stood up. You can wrap my table up. The waiter speaks in an apologetic manner. Waiter Line 71) I’m sorry to hear that. Ambrož Line 72) I’m the one who’s sorry for keeping this table all to myself. Let me pay for any fees necessary. Waiter Line 73) Don’t worry about that, sir, and just have a good rest of your day. Ambrož speaks in an appreciative manner. Ambrož Line 74) Thank you. I really appreciate it. Ambrož exits the restaurant, walking out to notice the sky had turned dark, with glistening stars shining above, illuminating around the area. Line 75) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: It just stopped raining, so, I guess Oumou really did leave me hanging. Line 76) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I know I shouldn’t have had high expectations going into this since this is my first date ever and something is bound to go wrong, but I still can’t help but feel upset. Ambrož furrows his eyebrows in distress. Line 77) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Is this my sign from the universe, telling me not to go behind Přemysl’s back? Ambrož walks to the valet parking area to pick up his car and passes by a woman drenched in rain. His eyes cross hers for a second, and he immediately swerves his gaze, not paying mind to the brief interaction. He stops in his tracks, getting hit with the realization that the person he just had eye contact with is Oumou. Oumou also stops in her tracks, finding Ambrož’s face familiar. She looks back at Ambrož to confirm her recognition with their gazes meeting each other once again. An expression of shock comes across her face. She quickly approaches Ambrož, speaking in an apologetic tone. Oumou Line 78) Glyn*! I’m so sorry for being late. *Refer back to line 28 of this episode (Ambrož’s alias for Detroit). Oumou speaks in a manner of guilt. Oumou Line 79) I see you already got up to leave. I’m sorry for making you wait so long. Oumou speaks in a genuine manner, hoping to convince Ambrož. Oumou Line 80) I know you might not believe me, but I was really caught up in some stuff that resulted in me arriving late. Ambrož gets hit with a wave of relief, seeing Oumou in the flesh. A smirk comes across his face as he observes her fancy attire, which is a crimson-colored spaghetti-strapped mermaid-cut dress. Oumou is wearing glittery golden shoes, along with golden jewelry and glittery makeup. Ambrož takes his trench coat off, placing it onto Oumou’s shoulders. Ambrož speaks in a friendly manner. Ambrož Line 81) You’re soaked. I wouldn’t want you to catch a cold. Oumou blushes, finding Ambrož’s gesture charming. Ambrož speaks in a flirtatious manner. Ambrož Line 82) Sorry that you got all dressed up for nothing. I don’t think it’s best for you to eat dinner when you're soaking wet. Ambrož Line 83) Let me take you to my car for you to get warmed up. You can explain yourself there. Oumou smiles at Ambrož’s welcoming aura. Ambrož leads the way to his car, opening the door for Oumou to enter the passenger's seat. She smiles at Ambrož’s politeness, getting herself situated in the car. Ambrož sits in the driver’s seat, turning on the heater for the car. Ambrož Line 84) Are you getting warmed up a bit? Oumou speaks in an appreciative manner. Oumou Line 85) Yeah. Thank you for being so considerate. Ambrož speaks in a curious tone. Ambrož Line 86) So what happened? Oumou rubs her head in distress. Oumou Line 87) A whole catastrophe at such an inconvenient time. Oumou Line 88) I was getting ready for the date earlier in the day and typed in the location you sent me of the restaurant. Oumou Line 89) When I entered the location on my phone, a link showed that the location was around a 10-minute walk away. Oumou Line 90) So, I thought I should go for a walk in the meantime to get some fresh air after the exhausting week I’ve had, and also since the weather app on the phone showcased clear skies for the day. Oumou Line 91) The moment I went outside and pulled the location up again, it suddenly said that it was 45 minutes away by car. Oumou Line 92) There must’ve been some error when I pulled up the location earlier. Just my luck, I suppose. Oumou Line 93) So, I was searching for a cab and in the meantime got drenched in a bunch of aggressive rain. Oumou Line 94) I tried to send you a message, but the wifi wasn’t working, so nothing was able to be sent through. Oumou Line 95) That’s why I ended up arriving so late. Oumou Line 96) I know it sounds like something I made up, but believe me when I say that all of that really did happen. Oumou speaks in a tone of remorse. Oumou Line 97) I’m so sorry for the inconvenience. I should’ve prepared beforehand. Ambrož smiles at Oumou in a cheerful manner. Oumou glances at Ambrož in confusion. Oumou Line 98) I expected you to be frustrated with me, but you’re so smiley. Ambrož speaks in a reassuring tone. Ambrož Line 99) Why should I be frustrated with you? You just had an unlucky day. If anything, I should try to lift your spirits. Ambrož Line 100) Besides, who wouldn’t be so smiley in your presence? End of episode.
