Ambrož and Přemysl are 162 years old, continuing to look 18 and 15. Ambrož’s narration: Line 1) Just like that, a whole century passed within the blink of an eye. Line 2) Přemysl and I stayed in America, jumping from one state to another once we had our fair share of years in one place. Line 3) Our objective in each state we moved to was to find the cure to vampirism. Line 4) The moment we felt a dead end, we would leave. Line 5) We’ve met various people who were educated in the occult, wondering if they had a solution to the dilemma we have been suffering for years with. Line 6) Each and every person we’ve encountered throughout all these years left us hopeless. Line 7) We even encountered some vampires here and there who were also on the hunt for a cure but were left stumped, just like us. Line 8) During all these years of traveling, Přemysl and I worked various jobs, maintaining a fake profile to conceal our true identities but enough to blend in with the rest of society. Line 9) Přemysl advised that we shouldn’t get too close to people to maintain our secret identities and to help us focus on our mission of finding the cure. Line 10) We didn’t have time to waste from distractions. We had to keep our objective clear. Line 11) The good thing about all these years was that I had Přemysl by my side. Line 12) As much as his company is more than enough for me, as I continue going about life, I get filled with curiosity about engaging in pursuits involving humans. Line 13) I’d like to get to know some more people, maybe get involved in a romance just for the thrill of it. Line 14) I know engaging in such selfish aspirations would slow us down on our path to finding the cure… Line 15) And, as adamant as I am to stop being a vampire, after all these years, I just want to live a normal life. Line 16) It’s like I’ve never been given a break to just relax and chill out for a second. Line 17) Each waking moment, the looming need to progress in our goal to find the cure has become second nature. Line 18) It’s exhausting, and I feel extremely burnt out, with my motivation for the goal not being as fiery compared to Přemysl. Line 19) He is definitely more devoted to finding the cure, and as much as I appreciate his devotion, I wish we could just take a break for a bit to wind down for some time. Line 20) Regardless, I continue to oblige to Přemysl’s requests; however, I don’t put in as much effort as him. Line 21) I don’t want to bring up not pursuing the cure to him because I’d know he’d feel sold out, knowing that we’ve dedicated so many years into trying to fulfill our goal… Line 22) And because of that, I’ve just been keeping quiet about my take on our mission. Line 23) I know keeping this to myself isn’t good, but I can’t help but feel the way I do. And I won’t idly stand by anymore. Line 24) For now, I secretly aim to establish a connection with someone other than Přemysl. Line 25) Maybe we’ve been approaching this circumstance incorrectly all these years, and on the contrary, cozying up to humans is our answer. Line 26) Either way, around 100 years of isolation from the rest of the world is not a lifestyle I’m passionate about continuing lately. Line 27) I want to live like a regular human now, accepting that I’m not a human. Line 28) Maybe the whole point of vampirism is to accept that we’ll always be vampires. Line 29) I accept myself as I am, and I’m through with putting limitations on the things I can or cannot do. Line 30) This is my life, and I’m going to live it the way I want to. Ambrož and Přemysl move out of Wisconsin (the state they lived in for a while, but ran into a dead end), and move to Detroit, Michigan. In Detroit, Ambrož and Přemysl buy a house together and completely move all of their belongings in. The day is October 15th, 2004. It’s a Friday evening. Ambrož washes up in their new home, exiting the bathroom to provide Přemysl company in the living room. Přemysl scribbles up a bunch of notes on their coffee table. Ambrož observes Přemysl exhaustingly, letting out a sigh of distress. Line 31) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: How is he already planning stuff when we’ve just moved in? Přemysl glances at Ambrož, waiting for him to initiate a conversation about his plans. Ambrož glances at him dismissively, turning on the TV. A love show comes up, with a bachelor handing a contestant a rose of approval. Ambrož intently watches the show, an intriguing expression coming across his face. The bachelor speaks in a desperate manner, his eyes pleading for the contestant’s approval. Bachelor Line 32) Will you accept my rose, Valerie? Valerie glances at the bachelor in a timid fashion, with a smirk of joy curling her lips. She speaks in a humble tone. Valerie Line 33) Of course, I will. The bachelor beams, handing the rose over to Valerie. Their hands graze each other’s intimately as the bachelor gently gives Valerie her rose of approval. Ambrož’s eyebrows loosen, feeling sentimental. Line 34) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: How cute! They’re totally head over heels in love with each other! Přemysl glances at Ambrož in a judgy manner. Přemysl Line 35) What’s there to gush over about? A puzzling look comes across Přemysl’s face. Přemysl Line 36) This is such a strange show. How can one guy date multiple women at once? Ambrož speaks in a defensive tone. Ambrož Line 37) It’s not like that, Přem. He’s not dating multiple women at once, he’s just getting to know all of them at the same time, to see which one he clicks the most with. Přemysl looks at Ambrož in surprise. Přemysl Line 38) I didn’t know you were such an expert on this topic. Ambrož Line 39) I’m not. You just make it sound like this guy has a bunch of girlfriends that he eliminates each episode. Přemysl Line 40) I don’t see it any other way. Přemysl changes the topic, speaking in a suggestive tone. Přemysl Line 41) Have you thought about how you’re going to approach living in Detroit? Ambrož lets out a sigh of contemplation. Ambrož Line 42) Not primarily. It seems like you’ve gotten things figured out, though. Share them if you’d like to. Přemysl speaks in a hopeful manner. Přemysl Line 43) All these years, the both of us have worked jobs to open a door of communication for us and humans in a lowkey way. Přemysl Line 44) As much as work engulfs a lot of humans’ entire lifestyle, a huge aspect that I’ve overlooked all these years is education. Přemysl Line 45) After all, I’m still 15-years-old on the outside… Přemysl Line 46) Therefore, I’m going to go back to school. Ambrož tilts his head to the side, looking at Přemysl in delighted surprise. Line 47) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I didn’t expect Přemysl to come up with that answer. Ambrož speaks in an agreeable manner. Ambrož Line 48) I’m digging this approach. Přemysl speaks in a tone of excitement. Přemysl Line 49) Right! The last time we attended school was eons ago. It’s time to see how things have updated through a different lens. Ambrož speaks in a curious manner. Ambrož Line 50) So you’re going to be in high school? Přemysl speaks in a cheerful tone. Přemysl Line 51) Yep. I’ll be enrolling as a sophomore. Přemysl Line 52) Being immersed in a young audience will help me become more familiar with their lives. Přemysl Line 53) From there, I want to see if brushing shoulders with some people will open up intel we haven’t had the chance to uncover all these years. Přemysl Line 54) We shouldn’t underestimate the younger generations' capabilities. Ambrož speaks in a manner of relief. Ambrož Line 55) I agree. I’m glad you’re doing things differently this time around. Ambrož speaks in an inquisitive tone. Ambrož Line 56) But I’m a bit curious about you “brushing shoulders” with people. Ambrož Line 57) School is where a lot of people establish close friends. Ambrož Line 58) Will you allow yourself to engage in such a connection? Přemysl Line 59) I’m going to allow myself a bit of flexibility when it comes to school. Přemysl Line 60) I’m not going to fully-fledgedly make these people my real friends; I’m just going to be their outlet of communication. Přemysl Line 61) I’m going to create an atmosphere of trust, for them to open up to be about themselves. Přemysl Line 62) But I won't reveal anything about myself on the latter. Přemysl Line 63) However, nobody would want to open up to a stranger, thus I have to become somewhat acquainted with them enough to the point where they start subconsciously spilling their guts. Přemysl Line 64) Does that make sense? Ambrož speaks in an apprehensive manner. Ambrož Line 65) Yeah, but it kind of sounds mean. Ambrož Line 66) Your objective is to create a safe space for your “friends” to open up to you, but you’re just using information about them for ulterior motives. Přemysl defends his plan in a passionate tone. Přemysl Line 67) How is that rude? Do you know how many people wish they had someone to talk to? Přemysl Line 68) I’m going to be the person they want to talk to, but I’m not using their information for malicious intent. Přemysl Line 69) It’s purely for me to make progress in our mission to find the cure to vampirism. Přemysl Line 70) I’ll be helping them, while they’ll be helping me. Přemysl Line 71) It’s a mutually beneficial relationship. Ambrož speaks in an uncertain tone. Ambrož Line 72) … I guess, then. Přemysl speaks in a curious manner. Přemysl Line 73) Do you want to do the same thing? Go back to school? Ambrož thinks to himself. Line 74) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: School is more of a been there done that thing for me. Line 75) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I’d much rather do something else, but then, what? Line 76) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Work another job like I’ve done for more than a century? Line 77) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Přemysl is taking a different approach, so I should too. Ambrož glances at the TV again, trying to think of an idea. An idea comes across his mind. He speaks in a tone of excitement. Ambrož Line 78) I’ll find myself a girlfriend! Přemysl looks at Ambrož in disapproval. Přemysl Line 79) Have you lost your mind? Ambrož passionately defends his suggestion. Ambrož Line 80) What do you mean? The number one person who’ll open up about themselves to you would be a romantic partner. It makes sense. Přemysl speaks in a dismissive manner. Přemysl Line 81) Our rule is not to get close with people, though. Ambrož thinks of an excuse, trying to falsely reassure Přemysl. Ambrož Line 82) I’ll explicitly state my boundaries on my relationship with this person. Přemysl scoffs. Přemysl Line 83) What are these boundaries? Ambrož Line 84) I should build my relationship on trust, therefore, I’ll ask for them to respect me not opening up about my personal life. Přemysl Line 85) You think someone would want to be in a relationship like that? Ambrož speaks in a reassuring tone. Ambrož Line 86) I’ll find someone. Enough for them to open up about deep things, and if we run into another dead end, I’ll go with another approach. Ambrož speaks in a desperate manner. Ambrož Line 87) Just let me give it a shot. Please? Ambrož pouts his lips, glancing at Přemysl with puppy dog eyes. Přemysl speaks in a stubborn manner. Přemysl Line 88) I doubt that you’ll find someone who’ll oblige to your "boundaries." But, sure, give it a shot. The tone of Pemysl's voice conveys a warning. Přemysl Line 89) Either way, you know good and well that we shouldn’t be getting close to people, so keep that up if you find yourself a “girlfriend.” Ambrož glances at Přemysl in a nervous manner. Line 90) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: What an ominous warning. He’s really against this idea, huh? Ambrož speaks in a dishonest tone. Ambrož Line 91) I won’t get close to them. Přemysl scoffs. Přemysl Line 92) I feel like this is a stupid plan you’ve concocted because you’re such a hopeless romantic. Přemysl Line 93) Good luck finding someone who’ll want to be in a relationship with someone who isn’t committed. Ambrož speaks in an argumentative manner. Ambrož Line 94) The bachelor isn’t committed, yet many girls want to get with him. Přemysl realizes Ambrož’s point. Přemysl Line 95) Touché, but you’re no bachelor. Ambrož speaks in a boastful tone. Ambrož Line 96) You’re right. I’m better. Ambrož Line 97) Are you forgetting how I’m practically the most charming person in the world? Přemysl cringes at Ambrož’s statement, speaking in a doubtful manner. Přemysl Line 98) Yeah, good luck. Ambrož’s narration: Line 99) And so, my operation to find a girlfriend kicked off. Line 100) After downloading a dating app and matching with someone who’s said to be my perfect match, I prepared for my date. Line 101) A bubbling feeling in my stomach started fizzing. Line 102) Remember when I mentioned how I wanted to get involved in a romance just for the thrill of it*? *Refer back to line 13 of this episode. Line 103) The thrill was settling in immensely. Line 104) But, about Přemysl’s warning, why exactly do I have to listen to him? Line 105) I don’t. Therefore, I’m completely dismissing our protocol on not getting close to people. Line 106) What’s the harm in getting close to humans anyway? I’m tired of helplessly waiting to find my epic love. Line 107) Rules were made to be broken anyway. Now’s the time to bend some things.
