Anything () is extra information. ____________________________________________________________ Episode 3: The day is August 20th, 1860. It’s Monday nighttime. Ambrož heads to the library to read up on vampire lore, thinking it’ll help him answer some questions about his encounter with the kid who saved him. After a couple hours of reading, Ambrož absorbs some information about vampire origins and urban legends. He looks up from his book in disconcertion, feeling unsettled by learning new information. He glances at the library window, noticing that the day has become night. Line 1) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Mom and Dad will be coming home very late today, so I won’t get caught sneaking out. Line 2) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I guess it’s time for me to meet that kid. Ambrož gets up in hesitation, closing the books he’s read. He looks down at the books in worry. Line 3) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I feel so much apprehension. Do I meet that kid or not? Line 4) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: It’s not like I’m obligated to do so, they didn’t demand I meet them again… Line 5) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: They simply told me to meet up with them if I was interested in knowing more*. *Refer back to episode 2, line 30. Line 6) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: But I have to return the lantern they lended me* either way, so I guess I should go. *Refer back to episode 2, line 33. Ambrož rubs his head in distress. Line 7) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I regret reading from the books about vampires. Line 8) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Ignorance really is bliss. I should’ve gone into this blindly. Line 9) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I feel thoroughly unsettled. What can I do to ease myself? Ambrož heads home to retrieve the person’s lantern. Before he leaves his house, Ambrož digs through his family's food stock, trying to find a clove of garlic. He finds a clove, and nods his head in assurance, feeling safer. Line 10) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Though I shouldn’t solely rely on what I read today as a valid source if it’s rumored that garlic wards off vampires, the safer, the better. Line 11) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I just hope that kid doesn’t interpret me wielding garlic as a threat. The last thing I want to do is put a target on my back. I need to approach this situation calmly. Ambrož sets foot out of his home, carrying a bag of belongings along with the borrowed gas lantern (gas lanterns can stay lit for 2�"3 days). He makes his way to the woods, trying to remember the area he encountered the person. The dark night encompasses an unwelcoming environment in the forest, making Ambrož feel uneasy. His body tenses up, feeling frightened. The person sneaks up behind Ambrož, scaring him as a prank. Ambrož releases a shriek of fear, caught off-guard by the gesture. The person lets out a sinister giggle, finding Ambrož’s reaction amusing. Ambrož looks at the person in shock, feeling confused as to why they scared him. The person speaks in a cheerful manner. Person Line 12) I’m happy to see you~ I didn’t think you’d have the guts to show up. Ambrož speaks in a snappy tone, feeling irritated from the way the person greeted them. Ambrož Line 13) Can’t you tell that it took a lot out of me to show up here today? Why did you scare me? It’s as clear as day that I’m obviously scared. Ambrož regrets his statement, feeling as if he offended the person. He speaks in a nervous manner. Ambrož Line 14) U-Um… P-Please disregard my statement. I didn’t mean it. The person lets out a laugh, finding Ambrož’s cautious demeanor hilarious. The person speaks in a reassuring manner. Person Line 15) I understand that anyone in your shoes would feel the same way, but, please, don’t be scared of me. The person speaks in an apologetic tone. Person Line 16) I shouldn’t have scared you like that. Apologies for my impulses getting the best of me. The person speaks in a curious manner. Person Line 17) Anyways, what are your intentions for coming here? Ambrož nervously gulps, feeling put on the spot by the person’s question. He speaks in a hesitant manner. Ambrož Line 18) To return your lantern. The person walks closer to Ambrož, knowing that he has other intentions. A mischievous smirk comes across their face. Person Line 19) You wouldn’t come all the way here if it was purely for that reason only. So, what is it? Ambrož speaks in a hesitant manner. Ambrož Line 20) You suggested I meet you again if I wanted to know more about you*. *Refer back to episode 2, line 30. A grin of delight comes across the person’s face. Person Line 21) It seems you’ve already made your assumptions on who I am. Ambrož looks at the person in shock, wondering how they came to that conclusion. Ambrož Line 22) H-How did you know? Person Line 23) That pungent smell coming from your bag reeks of garlic. An expression of concern engulfs Ambrož’s face. Line 24) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I can’t smell the garlic coming from my bag. A realization from the books he read earlier hits him. Line 25) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I forgot that I read that vampires have enhanced senses. That must be why they could smell the garlic from my bag. Ambrož speaks in an apprehensive manner. Ambrož Line 26) I apologize if my cautious approach and unwelcoming conclusions offend you. The person offers Ambrož a forgiving smile, speaking in a reassuring tone. Person Line 27) You’re still acting so uptight. Loosen up a bit. I’m not going to hurt you. The person speaks in a tone of delight. Person Line 28) I’m surprised at how spot on you are! Ambrož’s face engulfs an expression of disbelief. Line 29) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Spot on, as in I accurately guessed that this kid is a vampire? The person speaks in an honest manner. Person Line 30) It’s true. I’m what they call a vampire. The vampire sits down on a log nearby, ready to explain everything to Ambrož. He speaks in a hesitant tone. Vampire Line 31) I’m sure all sorts of thoughts are running through your mind right now. I don’t blame you. Vampire Line 32) However, I would appreciate it if you could eliminate any negative bias against my kind that you might have heard. Vampire Line 33) I know it’s tempting to want to believe all the tales and knowledge you’ve accumulated, but I’d like you to approach this with an open mind. Vampire Line 34) Will you allow me to explain my perspective, Ambrož*? *Remember that the vampire asked for Ambrož’s name (refer back to episode 2, line 27). Ambrož glances at the vampire in dismay. Ambrož Line 35) I feel as if you have an ulterior motive up your sleeve. Why are you confiding in me out of everyone about who you truly are? The vampire releases a chuckle. Vampire Line 36) This may sound cliché, but you’re different. Ambrož looks at the vampire skeptically. Ambrož Line 37) What made you stumble upon that conclusion? The vampire speaks to Ambrož with admiration. Vampire Line 38) Although you were petrified out of your mind yesterday, you weren’t hostile towards me. You let me speak when I wanted to. Vampire Line 39) That’s the first taste of kindness that I’ve had in 3 years. Ambrož looks at the vampire in confusion. He hesitantly sits beside the vampire on the log, harboring a safe distance between the two of them. Ambrož speaks in an apologetic manner. Ambrož Line 40) If you perceive our encounter yesterday on my part as kindness for the first time in 3 years, I feel immensely sorry for you. The vampire speaks in an empathetic manner. Vampire Line 41) You’re not the first person I’ve encountered in the woods. I’ve bumped into various people, getting greeted with their closed-off negativity. Vampire Line 42) Again, I don’t blame them for feeling that way. I was once a human too, after all. Vampire Line 43) But I just have been hoping and searching for someone that’ll hear me out. The vampire playfully nudges Ambrož’s chest, speaking in a friendly manner. Vampire Line 44) You’re my first~ Vampire Line 45) That’s why I want to open up about myself to you. The vampire speaks in a hopeful manner. Vampire Line 46) Based on your character so far, I’m assuming you’ll accept me as I am. Ambrož speaks in an assertive tone. Ambrož Line 47) My acceptance for you depends on whether or not you are morally just being. Ambrož Line 48) I know you mentioned to remove any stigma I know about vampirism, but it’s hard for me to believe that you’re ethical. The vampire bursts out in laughter. Ambrož glances at the vampire in disconcertion. Ambrož Line 49) What’s so funny? The vampire speaks in a cheerful manner. Vampire Line 50) I just didn’t expect for you to say something like that. Ambrož speaks in a tone of concern. Ambrož Line 51) I’m in utter shock from how unserious you are. Vampire Line 52) Fine. Then let me be serious. Do you consider me killing animals unethical? Ambrož speaks in a skeptical manner. Ambrož Line 53) That depends. Are you killing them for your survival, or because you find it fun? Vampire Line 54) I kill animals because I need to consume their blood. Without blood, I’m nothing but a corpse. Ambrož speaks in a curious tone. Ambrož Line 55) So, you’re not immortal, as they say? Vampire Line 56) I am, but blood fuels my body the same way eating and drinking does for humans. Vampire Line 57) Unlike you guys, if I don’t consume blood, I don’t starve; I just go to sleep essentially. Vampire Line 58) Blood will reawaken me and I’ll be back on my feet. Vampire Line 59) Think of it like a sponge without water. It’s still a sponge through and through, but just dry. Does that make sense? Ambrož nods his head. The vampire speaks in an observant manner. Vampire Line 60) You seem like you’re bubbling with questions. Ask away. Ambrož speaks in a worrisome tone. Ambrož Line 61) Just to clarify, you’ve never killed a human? The vampire speaks in a genuine tone. Vampire Line 62) Never. I don’t intend to either. Ambrož glances at the vampire skeptically. Line 63) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: I shouldn’t fully trust anything he has to say, but I’ll take his word for it with skepticism. Vampire Line 64) I’m sure you don’t believe me stating such a thing, but I don’t have a reason to lie to you. Vampire Line 65) Like I said, you’re the first person I’ve met in 3 years who has shed kindness upon me. I’m desperate to keep you by my side. The vampire speaks in an authentic tone. Vampire Line 66) I wouldn’t lie in our relationship. Ambrož speaks in a manner of confusion. Ambrož Line 67) What is our relationship? The vampire speaks in a hopeful manner. Vampire Line 68) Can we be friends? Ambrož speaks in a dismissive manner. Ambrož Line 69) We can’t just automatically be friends. I have to know you some more. The vampire sadly glances at Ambrož. Vampire Line 70) In that case, I’ll wait for as long as you need me to. I have all the time in the world, might as well put it to good use. Ambrož Line 71) We can just be acquaintances for now. The vampire happily glances at Ambrož. Ambrož speaks in a tone of curiosity. Ambrož Line 72) How come there’s no word on the street about vampires? If you’ve been meeting people left and right in the woods*, wouldn’t there be rumors around town? *Refer back to line 41 of this episode. Vampire Line 73) There would be word around town if I hadn’t wiped the people I encountered memories away. Vampire Line 74) Along with my ability to heal people with my blood*, I'm able to manipulate people's minds. *Refer back to episode 2, line 18. The vampire speaks in a manner of resentment. Vampire Line 75) I know that seems unethical, but I assure you I have a valid reason to act this way. Ambrož observes the vampire’s demeanor. Line 76) Ambrož’s inner thoughts: Seems like I struck a nerve. It’s best I don’t pry any further. Ambrož changes the topic. Ambrož Line 77) You mentioned it’s been 3 years since you’ve encountered someone like me*, does that mean you became a vampire 3 years ago? *Refer back to line 39 of this episode. The vampire looks at Ambrož proudly. Vampire Line 78) You really do catch on quickly*! Yes, that’s right! *Refer back to episode 2, line 14. Ambrož glances at the vampire curiously. Ambrož Line 79) How old are you then? The vampire speaks in a confident manner. Vampire Line 80) I’m eighteen. Ambrož glances at the vampire skeptically. Ambrož Line 81) That doesn’t seem right. You look younger than me. The vampire speaks in a manner of excitement. Vampire Line 82) We’re the same age*? *Refer back to episode 1, details in between lines 86 and 87. Ambrož looks at the vampire in confusion. Ambrož Line 83) Yes, but I don’t get it. You look like you’re still in middle school. The vampire speaks in a playfully offended tone. Vampire Line 84) Ugh. You’re hard to fool. Vampire Line 85) Physically, I look 15 because that’s how old I was when I became a vampire, but mentally I’m 18. The vampire speaks in a hopeless manner. Vampire Line 86) Vampires can’t age. I’ll be stuck in my 15-year-old body forever. Sucks, huh? Ambrož Line 87) Honestly, some people would love to be in that situation, but since you turned so young, it's only natural for you to yearn to age. Ambrož speaks in an emphatic tone. Ambrož Line 88) I’m sorry that things have to be this way for you. The vampire places his arm around Ambrož’s shoulder in a friendly manner, happily smiling at him eagerly. Vampire Line 89) It’s all good. I look forward to being with you now. Ambrož gives the vampire a neutral smirk. He speaks in a tone of curiosity. Ambrož Line 90) I didn’t catch your name*. What is it? *Refer back to episode 2, line 34. The vampire speaks in a manner of delight. Vampire Line 91) The name’s Přemysl* Vašek Kajetán. You can just call me Přem. *This name is pronounced: SHE-MI-SUL. Ambrož nods his head. He glances around himself, feeling the day get later into the night. He stands up from the log the both of them have been sharing, speaking in a friendly manner. Ambrož Line 92) Nice to know, Přem. As much as I want to converse with you some more, I should head back home before my parents arrive. Přemysl glances at Ambrož understandingly. Přemysl Line 93) Will we meet each other again? Ambrož looks at Přemysl assuringly. Ambrož Line 94) You have my word. Přemysl feels Ambrož’s authenticity. Ambrož speaks in an appreciative manner. Ambrož Line 95) I’d like to thank you again for saving my life. Přemysl speaks in a jokey tone. Přemysl Line 96) It was the ethical thing to do. Wouldn’t you say so? Ambrož releases a chuckle, handing Přemysl his lantern back. Ambrož Line 97) I suppose. Anyways, here’s your lantern. Přemysl speaks in a generous manner. Přemysl Line 98) Keep it. Consider it as a gift from me. Ambrož speaks in an insistent tone. Ambrož Line 99) I can’t accept such a gracious gift. Besides, I don’t think my parents would like- Ambrož gets hit with a feeling of pressure engulfing his chest. He falls to his knees in pain, feeling an echoing whirlwind gust in his mind, exerting tension all over his body. Přemysl glances at Ambrož in intense concern. Přemysl Line 100) Ambrož!
