While Talulla continues to deal with Elouise, Marvin and Calista get into a lover's spat from her mentioning his father.

Episode 76:

The day is Thursday April 20 1967.

Calista and Marvin are talking about mentioning his dad’s blessing for their relationship.

Line 1) Calista: What? Is it that simple? 

Line 2) Calista: He agreed like it was no big deal.

Line 3) Calista: That can’t be the case.

Line 4) Calista: What am I thinking?

Line 5) Calista: This is the man that separated Marvin from his mother.

Line 6) Calista: How dare I ask that question for such selfish reasons?

Line 7) Calista: He’s probably hiding it from me, but I’m sure this pisses him off.

Line 8) Calista: I don’t want to make him sad, or mad at me.

Line 9) Calista: Screw his dad! I’d rather stop by his sister or mothers grave.

Calista

Line 10) I’m sorry I mentioned that.

Calista

Line 11) Just forget about it. I shouldn’t have brought it up.

Marvin

Line 12) Don’t worry. I’m okay with it.

Calista

Line 13) It’s not okay though.

Calista

Line 14) I guess I just got caught up in my head, and thought it would be an appropriate thing to say aloud.

Calista

Line 15) I’m sorry. Forget I ever asked you about that.

Marvin

Line 16) You don't have to worry about it.

Marvin

Line 17) I’m fine. Really.

Marvin

Line 18) If you really want to meet him, just say the word, and I’ll get things arranged.

Line 19) Calista: No. That wouldn’t be right.

Calista

Line 20) It’s fine.

There’s awkward tension between them.

Line 21) Calista: After saying that, I can’t ask him to take me to his family's grave sites.

Line 22) Calista: He doesn’t owe me anything. I need to quit asking him to do things for me.

Marvin pokes Calista’s face.

She looks at him and he’s smiling.

Marvin

Line 23) What’s with the awkward silence?

Calista

Line 24) Oh, uh. I don’t know.

Marvin

Line 25) Well stop it. Go back to how you were a couple of minutes ago.

Marvin puts his arm around Calista.

Line 26) Calista: He’s so quick to catch on. It’s considerate of him to notice.

Line 27) Calista: I just feel unworthy of his understanding.

Calista looks bummed out.

Marvin

Line 28) Calista. I told you to stop.

Line 29) Calista: D****t! I just can’t seem to help it.

Calista

Line 30) Sorry. I’m trying my best.

Marvin

Line 31) Are you really letting something so small like asking about my dad get to you?

Calista

Line 32) Well, I just blurted it out, and now I feel guilty for mentioning it, since I didn’t consider what you’ve been through.

Marvin

Line 33) You don’t need to walk around shattered glass for me. Just forget about it.

Line 34) Calista: The fact that he keeps mentioning it, means it’s irritating him. Gosh, I should have never said anything in the first place!

Calista

Line 35) I’m sorry. Just don’t mind me if I’m bothering you.

Marvin

Line 36) Enough with the apologies.

Line 37) Calista: Guess I made him mad. Dang it!

Line 38) Calista: We were all good just a couple of minutes ago. Why’d I have to ruin the mood?

Marvin glances at Calista’s upset face and takes his arm off of her.

Line 39) Calista: He removed his arm! I guess I really pissed him off.

Calista looks at Marvin with solemn eyes.

Calista’s narration:

Line 40) I’m really not the brightest tool in the shed.

Line 41) I wonder what Marvin saw in me from the start?

Line 42) Why out of every other choice, did he choose me?

Line 43) Yes, he said he loves me.

Line 44) But, why?

Line 45) What did I do to make him feel that way?

Line 46) It’s obvious that he’s better than me.

Line 47) Therefore he deserves better.

Line 48) So, why did he settle for me?

Line 49) Since we have such little time together. I want to be perfect for him.

Line 50) But, as hard as I try, I’m still not good enough. I feel unworthy.

Line 51) We’re just starting to get to know each other as a couple. What if he doesn’t like this side of me?

Line 52) I mean, isn’t that what’s happening right now?

Line 53) I said something stupid, and it’s rubbing him the wrong way.

Line 54) Will this be our downfall?

Line 55) What if we won’t make it past this?

Line 56) Sure we knew each other as friends.

Line 57) But, will we last as a couple?

Calista rubs her temples.

Line 58) I think I’m jumping the gun a bit.

Line 59) I just can't help but feel that way.

Line 60) Why do I always think badly when things are going well?

Line 61) I should just enjoy the moment.

Line 62) He’s so good to me, I promised I’d be good to him too.

Line 63) I’m way too needy and spoiled.

Line 64) I need to control myself.

Calista sighs.

Line 65) Calista: Let me just try to divert my attention to the movie.

Line 66) Calista: Maybe that’ll ease my mind.

Line 67) Character 1: What is it my dear, why are you in such agony?

Line 68) Character 2: Because I’m simply not good enough for you!

Line 69) Character 2: I try my hardest to do my best with you.

Line 70) Character 2: But, it’s just not enough to make you happy.

Line 71) Character 1: What nonsense are you sputtering?

Line 72) Character 2: It’s not nonsense. See? You don’t even understand what I’m trying to say to you!

Line 73) Calista: What’s wrong with this movie? 

Line 74) Calista: It’s like it’s trying to start something between Marvin and I.

Marvin looks at Calista’s face.

Marvin

Line 75) Are you alright?

Calista

Line 76) Oh, um. Do you mind maybe turning the movie off?

Marvin grabs the remote and turns the movie off.

Line 77) Calista: So, now what?

Marvin

Line 78) Is there something else you want to do?

Calista

Line 79) Um. I don’t know.

Line 80) Calista: When is Talulla coming back? I’m sure we’ll be good if she comes soon.

Marvin

Line 81) Alright well, do you want to go to the store to buy Mama Milly a present?

Marvin

Line 82) We can go together. Or do you want to go on your own?

Line 83) Calista: Would it be the best idea to go to Mama Milly's place when I feel this uneasy?

Line 84) Calista: I’m sure she’ll be able to sense something in me.

Line 85) Calista: I shouldn’t burden her with that.

Calista

Line 86) Um. I think that’s okay. 

Calista

Line 87) I can go some other time. Or we can go together some other time. It doesn’t have to be now.

Marvin is quick to notice Calista’s uneasiness.

Marvin gives a big sigh.

Line 88) Calista: Ahh! What’s with the sigh?! I think he’s mad!

Marvin

Line 89) What’s wrong, Calista?

Line 90) Calista: I don’t want to burden him. Let me just act oblivious, so that he gives up and forgets about it.

 Calista

Line 91) I don’t know what you mean.

Marvin gets the flashback from when Elouise said that same thing.

Marvin

Line 92) Are you lying to me?

Calista’s face goes blank.

Calista

Line 93) Uh. Well I guess so. Just don’t worry about me. It’s nothing for you to pay any mind to.

Marvin

Line 94) Well how can I not pay any mind to it when it’s written all over your face.

Marvin

Line 95) Come on. As your boyfriend you should tell me about these things.

Line 96) Calista: If I explain. He’ll think I’m being too difficult. I must keep this to myself. I’m sure I’ll be fine in a couple of hours.

Calista

Line 97) That’s alright. Like I said. It’s nothing for you to worry about.

Marvin

Line 98) Are you afraid I won’t understand you?

Line 99) Calista: It’s not that I think he won’t understand me. It’s just I’m being too difficult and I don’t want him to see that side of me. It’ll irk him off. I just know it.

Calista

Line 100) It’s nothing like that. So, don’t jump to conclusions, just act like nothing's wrong.

Marvin

Line 101) I can’t think that way, when there’s obviously something wrong.

Calista

Line 102) Marvin. I know we’re a couple. But, there’s some things that just aren’t worth mentioning.

Calista

Line 103) We don’t have to share every last detail about ourselves.

Calista

Line 104) So, just lay off. Respectfully.

Line 105) Calista: Gosh, I hope saying that wasn’t too mean!

Calista

Line 106) But, I’m asking you nicely. So don’t take it the wrong way.

Marvin looks confused.

Marvin

Line 107) I don’t agree with you. 

Marvin

Line 108) Why should I lay off when we’re a team?

Marvin

Line 109) I’m not some psychic that knows exactly what you’re feeling.

Marvin

Line 110) If you don’t tell me, I might end up hurting you.

Marvin

Line 111) So, please. Can you just tell me what’s wrong, so we can get this over with?

Marvin

Line 112) I’m here for you. You don’t have to keep everything to yourself.

Marvin

Line 113) We’re a team. Let’s solve this together.

Line 114) Calista: Aww. He’s being really sweet.

Line 115) Calista: But, I really don’t feel like telling him.

Line 116) Calista: I feel like to a degree, we shouldn’t share everything about ourselves.

Line 117) Calista: This is something I want to keep to myself.

Calista smiles.

Calista

Line 118) You know what. Let’s just forget about it. Nothings wrong.

Calista

Line 119) On second thought. Why don’t we go see your mom? I’ll drop my gift off to her in the meantime.

Marvin gives Calista a disappointed look.

Line 120) Calista: What’s with that face? We’re moving on from this situation.

Line 121) Calista: So, why is he still unsatisfied?

Marvin sighs again.

Marvin

Line 122) Listen. I don’t get why you’re lying to me again.

Marvin

Line 123) I asked to know what’s wrong and now you’re trying to blow the situation off like it’s nothing.

Marvin

Line 124) Tell me. Am I being too pushy? Too nosy? What’s wrong?

Calista

Line 125) It’s nothing. I already told you. Just drop it.

Marvin looks upset.

Marvin

Line 126) It seems like you don’t trust me, Calista.

He stands up.

Marvin

Line 127) I’ll give you space to be on your own.

Marvin goes to the door and puts Rex’s leash on.

He leaves to go on a walk.

Calista’s face is upset.

Line 128) Calista: What? What did I do wrong?

Line 129) Calista: Just because I don’t want to talk to him about it, he’s distancing himself from me?

Line 130) Calista: Is he starting to lose feelings for me?

Line 131) Calista: Am I not suited to be in a relationship?
