Marvin and Calista continue to hang out in Mama Milly's house.

Episode 70:

The day is Monday April 17 1967.

Calista asks Mama Milly about how she retired, and more about her life. 

Ameilia

Line 1) Is there anything else you’d like to know?

Calista

Line 2) Do you still work for Marvin’s family?

Ameilia

Line 3) No. I retired a while back. I’d say around ten years ago.

Calista

Line 4) Ten years?!

Ameilia

Line 5) I signed a contract for when I started working with the Douglas'.

Ameilia

Line 6) The rules were that once Marvin turned eighteen, he would start to suffice for himself.

Ameilia

Line 7) When that day came, Marvin’s father told me it was time to say my goodbyes.

Ameilia

Line 8) I started working for them when I was thirty.

Ameilia

Line 9) I was struggling with work, and I was desperate to get into any place.

Ameilia

Line 10) My mother always shamed me, saying that I should be focusing on marrying someone. Not my career.

Ameilia

Line 11) But, I just couldn’t let myself marry someone, without having a stable job.

Ameilia

Line 12) So, I took this one.

Ameilia

Line 13) I thought I would have some spare time to settle down with someone, as I was already thirty.

Ameilia

Line 14) But, I was just so busy raising Marvin, that I didn’t have any time to start a family.

Ameilia

Line 15) By the time I retired, I was already 48. 

Ameilia

Line 16) An age far too late for me to have kids safely on my own.

Ameilia

Line 17) And about finding a partner.

Ameilia

Line 18) I simply had no interest.

Ameilia

Line 19) That’s why it’s just been me with myself all these years.

Ameilia looks at Calista’s upset expression.

Ameilia

Line 20) Don’t take this the wrong way.

Ameilia

Line 21) I could’ve quit whenever I wanted to, really.

Ameilia

Line 22) But, I was way too attached to Marvin to leave him.

Ameilia

Line 23) Which is why I stayed and took care of him all these years.

Ameilia

Line 24) He’s truly the son I never had. And I’m glad he relied on me.

Calista

Line 25) What about now? 

Calista

Line 26) Retiring at age 48 is still quite young.

Calista

Line 27) Have you gotten another job?

Ameilia

Line 28) I haven’t. But, I was fairly compensated enough at my old job, which is why I don’t have to work anymore.

Calista

Line 29) Oh. Well, at least that’s good.

Calista pats her hand on Mama Milly.

Calista

Line 30) Thank you for raising him into being a good man.

They smile at each other.

Marvin comes to them with a bag and plates.

Ameilia

Line 31) Did you run to the store? I was wondering why you were talking so long.

Marvin

Line 32) Well, you guys were talking. And I thought I should make myself useful and get some dessert for all of us.

Marvin

Line 33) Good thing I made it back in time. It looked like it was gonna rain any minute.

Calista

Line 34) Is there like some sort of cafe near here?

Marvin

Line 35) There’s one around two blocks away.

Marvin

Line 36) They have the best Tiramisu.

Ameilia

Line 37) Are you not from here, Calista?

Calista

Line 38) I am, I’m just not familiar with some areas.

Line 39) Calista: Was that a good excuse? The cafe Marvin’s mentioning, must be long gone in our time if I don’t know about it.

They finish their Tiramisu and head out.

Ameilia

Line 40) Are you sure you guys want to head out? It’s pouring out there.

Marvin

Line 41) It doesn’t look like it’s going to stop anytime soon. So, we’ll just make a run for it.

Ameilia gives them an umbrella.

Ameilia

Line 42) Take this. Though I’m not sure it’ll help much.

Marvin

Line 43) I’ll return it to you some time soon.

Marvin hugs Ameilia.

She hugs him back.

Marvin

Line 44) Thank you for today. Have a great rest of your day.

Ameilia

Line 45) Of course. You too.

Ameilia hugs Calista.

Calista hugs her back.

Calista

Line 46) It was lovely meeting you today ma’am.

Ameilia

Line 47) Same goes for you. You’re a lovely lady.

Calista

Line 48) Till next time. Have a good evening.

Ameilia waves them off and they leave.

Marvin opens the Umbrella and hangs in above the both of them.

The windy rain starts pouring in their direction.

Marvin

Line 49) Let’s make a run for it.

Marvin grabs Calista’s hand and they run to a place with a cover hovering over them.

They find a place that has a cover above them to take shelter.

Calista smiles immensely.

Marvin notices.

Marvin

Line 50) What is it?

Calista

Line 51) It just feels like such an adventure with you everyday.

Calista

Line 52) I don’t think I’ve ever had this much fun in my life.

Marvin

Line 53) Is that so?

Calista nods her head.

Marvin

Line 54) If that’s the case. Buckle up for some more. These things just scratch the surface.

Calista beams.

They walk for a bit, as the rain calms down.

Marvin

Line 55) It’s good the rain calmed down. I thought my clothes would get wet.

Calista glances at Marvin happily.

Marvin

Line 56) I feel like you’re suddenly looking at me differently.

Calista

Line 57) Well duh. I just met your mom.

Marvin

Line 58) Alright. And why does that change things?

Calista

Line 59) What do you mean? That changes everything.

Marvin

Line 60) How so?

Calista

Line 61) It means we’re closer, goof.

Calista

Line 62) I just met the woman who embarked wisdom on you all these years.

Calista

Line 63) She raised you into the person you are today.

Calista

Line 64) She was there for you no matter what you went through.

Calista

Line 65) I’m grateful for such an amazing person like that.

Calista caresses Marvin’s cheek.

Calista

Line 66) It’s the reason you’re so amazing.

Marvin smiles.

Calista

Line 67) And if I’m being honest. I don’t think I'm that good enough for you.

Marvin

Line 68) What? That’s nonsense.

Calista

Line 69) It’s not though.

Calista

Line 70) I feel like you’re more understanding towards me.

Calista

Line 71) I should be the same to you.

Marvin

Line 72) You are.

Calista

Line 73) To an extent.

Calista

Line 74) There’s still so much I don’t know about you, Marvin.

Calista’s narration:

Line 75) It makes me sad knowing I won’t ever know every single thing about you.

Line 76) There will still be something you haven't told me, even if we live together for the rest of our lives.

Line 77) Even though we all know spending the rest of our lives together is just a mere fantasy.

Line 78) But, even now. When we have such little time with each other.

Line 79) I long for these small moments, because it’s all I have left of you.

Line 80) Which is why I have to be the best girlfriend possible.

Line 81) Afterall, I made a promise to your mom.

Marvin

Line 82) You won’t ever get to know everything about me.

Marvin

Line 83) And I won’t ever get to know everything about you.

Marvin

Line 84) That’s just the way life is.

Marvin

Line 85) Only you know yourself best.

Calista

Line 86) Isn’t that just so bittersweet?

Calista

Line 87) Why can’t we just do everything in life?

Calista

Line 88) Travel to every single place, to every single timeline.

Calista

Line 89) Eat all the food in the world.

Calista

Line 90) Listen to every single song, watch every single movie.

Calista

Line 91) Read every single book.

Calista

Line 92) It just makes me so frustrated.

Calista

Line 93) I want to do everything.

Marvin smiles.

Marvin

Line 94) I get what you mean.

Marvin

Line 95) But, that’s the point. We can’t do everything.

Marvin

Line 96) But, we can try our best.

Calista

Line 97) Exactly. Which is why I have to try my best.

Calista

Line 98) From now on. Every time I make eye contact with you. I’m gonna make a move.

Marvin blushes.

Marvin makes direct eye contact with Calista.

Marvin

Line 99) What happens when we maintain eye contact for a long time?

Marvin tippy toes his fingers on Calista’s shoulder.

Calista blushes.

Calista

Line 100) I’m gonna pretend like I didn’t just hear you say that.

Marvin

Line 101) Excuse me, but we made eye contact.

Marvin

Line 102) Aren’t you gonna keep your promises?

Marvin

Line 103) Wasn’t that your New Year's resolution?

Calista is shocked.

Calista

Line 104) How’d you guess that?

Marvin laughs.

Marvin

Line 105) It was just a hunch.

Marvin

Line 106) But, I guess that means we have the same resolution.

Marvin

Line 107) So, are you gonna fulfill your duties or not?

Calista smiles and reels Marvin in for a kiss.

They kiss each other passionately.

Calista
