Episode 16:

February 20th 2024. The day is Tuesday.

Sotsona goes into the guest-bedroom (where she slept) and checks on her phone that is by the night-stand.

She hesitates before picking it up, but swiftly does it anyway.

She checks to see that her parents have been texting and calling her non-stop all day.

Line 1) Sotsona’s inner thoughts: 76 messages and 49 missed calls?! That’s overkill.

Line 2) Sotsona’s inner thoughts: I don’t even want to waste my time looking and reading through everything.

Line 3) Sotsona’s inner thoughts: I’ll just cut to the chase and call them STAT.

Sotsona finds her mother’s contact and calls her.

The phone rings and her mother picks up.

She yells at her through the phone.

Mom

Line 4) WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?!

Sotsona winces and covers her ears from how loud her mother is shouting.

Sotsona

Line 5) I already told you I’ve been staying with a friend because of the blizzard.

Sotsona’s mom maniacally laughs.

Sotsona has a concerned expression on her face.

Mom

Line 6) DO YOU EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE IN THAT S**T?!

Sotsona

Line 7) … I mean, no. But, it’s the truth. There’s no point in lying to you.

Mom

Line 8) You filthy s**t! I know what you’re doing behind our backs!

A chill runs through Sotsona’s spine.

Line 9) Sotsona’s inner thoughts: How can she call her own daughter something like this?

Sotsona tries to retain her composure, but can’t help her trembling hands from fear.

Sotsona

Line 10) … Mom. I’m being serious when I tell you I’m doing nothing behind your back.

Sotsona

Line 11) It’s snowing like crazy. Did you think I’d come home in these conditions no matter what?

Sotsona

Line 12) I even caught a cold because I was planning to walk home, but my friend insisted on taking me to their place.

Sotsona

Line 13) I promise you that it’s not what you think. It’s really only because of the snow.

Mom

Line 14) YOU LIAR! DO YOU THINK I’LL BELIEVE IN SOMETHING LIKE THAT?!

Again, Sotsona winces and covers her ears from how loud her mother is shouting.

Sotsona

Line 15) Mom. Please don’t shout. Let’s talk like adults.

Again, Sotsona’s mom maniacally laughs.

Sotsona furrows her eyebrows and rubs her head in distress.

She tenses up and trembles like crazy, scared on what her mom is going to say.

Mom

Line 16) If that were really the truth, then explain why you were perfectly able to walk home in the cold when you worked last Saturday*?!

*Refer back to episode 4, details in 32, etc.

Sotsona looks stunned and is left speechless.

Sotsona

Line 17) I’ll admit you have a point, but the truth is that I didn’t have any spare cash to pay for the bus ride home.

Sotsona can’t help but get upset and let herself talk back to her mom a bit

Sotsona

Line 18) … If you didn’t yell and slap me, I could’ve explained that to you earlier.

Sotsona’s mom starts to laugh again and this pisses Sotsona off.

Mom

Line 19) WOW! WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE TO TALK TO ME LIKE THIS?!

Sotsona’s dad takes Sotsona’s mother’s phone and jumps in on their conversation.

Dad

Line 20) SOTSONA! YOU BETTER GET HOME THIS VERY INSTANT! YOU ARE IN BIG TROUBLE!

Sotsona

Line 21) FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, HAVE EITHER OF YOU LOOKED OUTSIDE?!

Casimir overhears Sotsona yelling from the other room.

Sotsona

Line 22) RIDDLE ME THIS, DAD! HOW THE HELL CAN I GET HOME WHEN THERE'S PILES OF SHOW OUTSIDE THAT ARE BLOCKING MY WAY?!

Dad

Line 23) If you went to college you wouldn’t even be dealing with this in the first place!

Sotsona looks at her phone in disbelief.

Line 24) Sotsona’s inner thoughts: It always comes down to that. No matter what the situation is. They’ll always bring that up.

Sotsona tries to calm herself down.

Sotsona

Line 25) All I have been doing is working my a*s off all day.

Sotsona

Line 26) It’s not like I have a car of some sort to easily drive from place to place.

Sotsona

Line 27) By the time I finished work, the blizzard had already gotten bad.

Sotsona

Line 28) If I walked home I could’ve gotten hypothermia or something like that.

Dad

Line 29) … Sotsona… Don’t lie to us!

Dad

Line 30) You were able to walk home in the cold a couple of days ago pretty easily!

Dad

Line 31) Come to think of it, why did you get so gussied up last Sunday?!

Dad

Line 32) WHO THE HELL DID YOU MEET UP WITH?!

Dad

Line 33) Is it a guy?! Are you with them right now?!

Dad

Line 34) Your mother and I raised you better than this!

Dad

Line 35) I didn’t know I had a skank for a daughter!

Sotsona is left speechless and tears well in her eyes.

Dad

Line 36) If only you had listened to us and gone to college!

Dad

Line 37) Don’t bother coming home, unless you’re ready to turn your life around and apologize for how you’ve been acting!

Tears drip down Sotsona’s face and she wipes them with her trembling hands.

Sotsona

Line 38) … Can mom hear us?

Sotsona’s dad is confused.

Dad

Line 39) Do you think she’ll back you up with this? Hell! It was her idea to leave you out of the house!

Sotsona

Line 40) Answer the question! Can the both of you hear me or not?!

Dad

Line 41) We can hear you all right! What the hell are you trying to pull?!

Sotsona stands up and paces around the room, gripping her phone tightly as she speaks with her parents.

Sotsona

Line 42) The both of you better listen up good and well because I am not in the mood to repeat myself!

Sotsona

Line 43) All my life, you’ve been the most horrid parents a child could ever ask for!

Sotsona

Line 44) The both of you never had my back, nor cared for me as a person!

Sotsona’s voice cracks and she starts crying.

Sotsona

Line 45) Do you know how hard it’s been for me all these years?!

Sotsona

Line 46) How crazy I’ve become because of the way the both of you have treated me all this time?!

Sotsona

Line 47) I’ve been yearning for a life of my own for so long, and now that I’m away from the both of you, I can finally take matters into my own hands!

Sotsona

Line 48) Never let me into your house ever again?! Fine then! See how much I care!

Sotsona

Line 49) One day you’ll regret how you’ve been with me all this time and come crawling back!

Sotsona

Line 50) I’m done with you guys! FOREVER!

Sotsona

Line 51) THE BOTH OF YOU CAN SCREW OFF!

Sotsona ends the call and throws her phone on the bed.

She scrunches her hair and falls to her knees while crying.

*Shot cuts to Casimir behind Sotsona’s door hesitating to barge in on her (he heard the whole call).

Line 52) Casimir’s inner thoughts: This must be why she didn’t want me to interfere with her personal life.

Line 53) Casimir’s inner thoughts: Poor Sotsona. Her parents must be s****y if she’s lashing out on them like this.

Line 54) Casimir’s inner thoughts: She’s so kind. There’s no way she’s the one at fault for what they’re blaming her for.

Line 55) Casimir’s inner thoughts: No wonder she’s closed off and a bit cold. Her parents are to blame for those characteristics.

Line 56) Casimir’s inner thoughts: I think she needs some space. It’s not appropriate for me to raid her room and be all nosy like this.

Casimir realizes he's being nosy since he eavesdropped on the conversation to begin with.

He smacks his head in annoyance.

Line 57) Casimir’s inner thoughts: Ugh! I’m such an idiot. I’ve been nosy all this time.

Line 58) Casimir’s inner thoughts: I can’t turn a blind eye now. Man, I suck!

Casimir puts his ear to the door and hears sobbing.

He immediately panics and opens the door, barging into Sotsona’s room.

He spots her sitting on the floor crying.

She’s caught off-guard and looks over at him in shock for coming in so unexpectedly.

Sotsona

Line 59) Casimir. Now’s not a good time.

Casimir sympathetically looks at Sotsona’s face and notices how red it looks from all her crying.

His heart aches while he sees her upset.

Casimir

Line 60) I can’t leave you like this.

Casimir tries to walk over, but Sotsona puts her hands out for him to stop in his tracks.

She looks to the side and tries to cover her face in embarrassment.

Sotsona

Line 61) Stop! Don’t come any closer.

Sotsona

Line 62) I get what you’re trying to do, but I need to be alone.

Sotsona

Line 63) Please leave.

Sotsona buries her face on her knees and continues to cry.

Casimir doesn’t listen to her and walks over to her anyway.

He crouches down beside her and places his hand on her head.

She talks to him while her face is on her knees (so her voice is muffled).

Sotsona

Line 64) I told you to go away.

Casimir

Line 65) I know you did. But, I’m going to stay anyway because I told you I can’t leave you like this.

Casimir pets Sotsona’s head while she cries.

Casimir

Line 66) You don’t have to hide your face from me. I already saw how you look.

Casimir

Line 67) It’s okay to cry, Sotsona.

Casimir

Line 68) Let yourself feel your emotions.

Casimir

Line 69) If you keep them bottled up like this, you’re going to burst.

Casimir

Line 70) When we met up at the hotel, you told me that I’m all you have.

Casimir

Line 71) Our contract says I have to help and support you.

Casimir

Line 72) So, let me.

Casimir

Line 73) I know, saying this sounds ridiculous because we’ve only known each other for a couple of days.

Casimir

Line 74) But, I’m telling you right here, right now, that I’m here for you.

Casimir

Line 75) I’ll let myself be a shoulder for you to cry on.

Casimir

Line 76) That’s fine. Just use me.

Sotsona looks up at Casimir and he notices her swollen eyes.

He expands his arm in for a hug and waits until she embraces him.

Casimir

Line 77) Don’t leave me hanging.

Sotsona gives Casimir a dull look.

Casimir

Line 78) Come on. Don’t underestimate how much a simple hug can do.

Sotsona rolls her eyes and gives into Casimir’s hug.

He hugs her back tightly and pets her head.

Casimir

Line 79) There you go. Now let it all out.

Casimir

Line 80) I’ve got you in my arms.

Casimir

Line 81) I told you I’m ready for everything you have to offer me.

Casimir

Line 82) Whether it be the good, bad, or ugly. I’m still here.

Casimir

Line 83) I’m not going to let you go so easily.

Sotsona gets emotional from Casimir’s words and cries on his shoulder.

He upsettingly hugs her and pats her head in sympathy.

Sotsona’s narration:

Line 84) Perhaps the timing for Casimir to say such a thing seemed too soon…

Line 85) But, that didn’t matter to me anyway because it was what I needed to hear.

Line 86) Casimir was right. He was the only one there for me.

Line 87) I was emotional after arguing with my parents and wasn’t thinking straight.

Line 88) All I needed was someone to lean on.

Line 89) And Casimir let me lean on him.

Line 90) For only knowing me for a couple of days…

Line 91) I feel like he’s seen every possible side of me.

Line 92) He was right saying that a hug could do a lot of justice.

Line 93) I never felt so safe in someone's arms.

Line 94) The most heartbreaking thing is that these arms weren’t that of my family.

Line 95) But rather, a complete stranger.

Line 96) Not even my family could do something like this for me.

Line 97) However, someone I've only known for a few days even knows what to do when someone cries.

Line 98) I hate showing this weak side of mine.

Line 99) But, I couldn’t hold back my tears any longer.

Line 100) I had to be vulnerable to let myself extinguish.

End of episode.
