I am

I am

A Poem by Shelby
"

What I am

"

I am a seeker of Knowledge
I ask many questions
Yet am doubtful of the answers
Unless proven to me

I am a fish
I glide through the water with ease and grace
Yet I breathe air and
Rest on dry land

I am a child
I need the love of my parents
Yet when the time comes
I will watch over my elders

I am an artist
I find beauty in words
Yet am disturbed by
Lack of color

I am an adult
With plans and maps
Yet I cry at night in fear
Of no longer being a kid

I am a dreamer
With tons of visions
Yet I can’t grab on to them
For they are just another impossibility

I am a poet
I use letters for my feelings
Yet I sometimes am speechless
With nothing to say at all

I am everything
Yet I am nothing
I am the sun and the moon
I am the stars
I am what I am,
Like you are who you are
We’ll be what we’ll be
Till one day we will drop to our knees
We’ll pray for salvation and take of these masks and never fear again
To be what we must be
I am yours for the taking

I was drawn to this piece because of the photo. I saw it on a poem by O and thought it was cool someone had used the same pic.

Funny what draws us to other pieces.

The subject matter and style is not so original. However, it is well written and the piece is important to you. For that matter it should be respected. Poetry can be therapy, it can be social, explanitory or arty. And other things too besides. This is a nice introduction to you or how you see yourself.
