Have you looked around lately?A Poem by MaraHave you paid attention?The drawing on a shopping list left in a grocery store basket bears your face in great detail;
Your reflection on the neighbor's car speaks to the stray cat about their weekend;
The fan blows the scent of your freshly washed skin into the nose of a curiously shaped passerby;
A replica of your eye grows in a pot of olives in the back of a cabinet in your late grandfather’s summer house inherited by aunts you don’t know;
The bruise on your back turns every color every second, unseen under your shirt;
The stranger dreams of you every night, never remembering any of it in the morning;
Vegetables grow from the dead seeds you accidentally dropped in your electrical closet;
The world pauses without your knowledge, the only trace being your dry throat;
The fly in your cubicle flies against a non-existent window;
The cloud shaped like your childhood home floats by in the night;
The spider in your bedroom weaves the date you’ll die in her web, only to be swiped away in the morning when you open the closet door;
The note appears in a notebook in your closet, long forgotten. © 2025 MaraAuthor's Note
