Dreams

Dreams

A Poem by sierra_jo

when my grips start to loosen

and my wings start to spread

and my heavy eyes sink softly

as i lie in my bed

then i find a brave new body

one that soars

and streaks its path in the sky

one that looks down pitifully on the other that starts to snore

and in that brand new body

my world becomes engulfed

in great amounts of water

that serves as home to jellyfish, their jelly-ish bellies perfected fluffed

I plunge into this aquatic realm

and watch as the blue of the seas turn dark

on the way down, i pass many critters

some of which, Noah may have forgotten to invite to the ark

when i finally reach the bottom

i find my feet have disappeared

my arms have become alien too

and bubbles are pouring out of my ears

to my considerable confusion

i find that the starfish have gathered around me

they begin to latch onto my back

treating me like a cab from the city

i ask them where they would like to go

(they had such beautiful mouths)

but every time they opened their lips

only a horrible screeching sound came out.

i swim violently back to the surface

if only to get away from the sound

but it seems to follow my every move

tracking me like a hound

the i feel a gently tap

that drains all the water, replacing it with air

i open my heavy eyes slowly

only to find my mother there
