My ex-fiancee was sent to Iraq, and he came back, although not as the same person who went over there. I used to pick his brain for insight of what he was thinking and feeling while he walked those sands. I know he was terribly homesick and missed the things he loved, longed to be back here for things as simple as a sunset. I think that you captured that longing feeling, of wanting what you cannot have yet, and of not knowing if you'll ever see it, hear it, feel it, again. I read the story that inspired this, too, and think that this was a wonderful follow-up to that. He made it back alive, but a vital part of his soul did not, and I pray daily for his return to wholeness, much as the narrator of this poem prays for reunion on that distant shore, when the lover did not return in body. Thank you for the request, this was beautifully penned.
D-day? I was thinking how lucky your wife or girlfriend is for her to have inspired you to write this. It's very beautiful and touching. Wish MY man could write me something like this!
Thank you for visiting my place of work, I hope you enjoy what you read. I do try my best to entertain.
My imagination runs wild at times, but I love the freedom. more..
