Superhero

Superhero

A Poem by Yemariam Markos
"

This poem is inspired by the Daughtry song: "Waiting for Superman".

"
Dark, cold, wild
Alone
Everything is rushing past me
And I can't focus on any of them
Because I keep counting

Counting stars
Counting noises
Counting excuses
For how long? I haven't been keeping count

I'm out here
thinking I'd be free
But I feel just as trapped as I did behind that door

I don't know how long I've been out here
I just know this is the spot where you'd pick me up
The spot where you'd save me
After you've saved the day

It was after your fifth phone call
I started counting the time
It got harder to keep count of the excuses
Because they got multiplied by two

I spent the time you lost with a few strangers

Light, warm, wild
Wanted
I never thought I'd have to wait for my rescue
I never thought I'd spend so much time
counting.

But I guess I was too hurt to realize
This entire time
I was the one who was wearing the cape.
