Remember

Remember

A Poem by Yemariam Markos

I remember all those times we had
Our joyous and contagious laughter,
Our long and ridiculous talks about nothing
Our long and ridiculous talks about everything
I remember... do you?
Do you remember?
I also remember all the troubles we had
But they were put behind us
Because we pulled each other through- like friends always do, right?
Do you remember?
Are you starting to remember now?
That time we couldn't pull each other through?
Do you remember?
Of course you don't
Because friends never put each other through hell.
What will it take?
Do I have to burn down a building?
Do I have to show my scars to people who don't understand their existence to begin with?
Do I have to freeze hell over to make you understand?
To make you understand that you do this
You make me like this
You make me completely,
and utterly
insane.
There is nothing more I want right now than to just tell you how much I hate you.
But luckily for you,
That's easier said than done
So these words stay inside four walls
Outside of them?
I'll keep smiling, because everything. Is. Fine.
And I'll be hating you more every day
Because friends never put each other through hell.
