Variegated

A Poem by Yemariam Markos
"

This is a poem I wrote for a competition at my school and it was focussed on the topic tolerance. I'm debating on this one so please roast the heck out of this if needed.

"
I am searching
for someone to pull me out of this mess
A courageous warrior perhaps
to shield me from all the judgemental glances
Is anybody out there?
I feel so, so alone
I need to hold a hand, to grasp onto something that's real
This drowning sensation is too much for me to handle
Who am I? Who am I supposed to be?
Of what exactly do I have to be a replica of?
Somebody, please tell me!
So many rules, which ones am I supposed to follow?
Could you write it out for me? Paint a basic picture, maybe?
So I can know how to be perfect, be perfect like you.
I'll be honest; I'd more than prefer to be a part of a kaleidoscope rather than a perfect Lego structure.
But it seems in order to go through a day; I have to be perfect, like you
Is anybody out there?
Who would reach out a hand and take mine
We can accept together that we're as real as it gets
What is that Lego structure even for?
We can never fit in; we were all born to stand out
What else can we do in a variegated world?
