Close Your Eyes: Carnival

Close Your Eyes: Carnival

A Story by Helena G.
"

This is my second short story of the Close Your Eyes. This story is about a girlfriend who went on a date with her boyfriend to the carnival.

"

The carnival was so full of light and fun noises. All I could think about was how pretty the carnival lights looked against the night sky. The red, orange and yellow bulbs on each game and ride.

“Babe?” someone asked, “Lily? Are you alive?”

I realized this was reality and not a dream. “Oh, yea I’m fine.” I was with my boyfriend Alex and he took me to the carnival as a date.

“So? Is this a nice first time for the carnival experience?” As he asked me with a smile. That’s right, this was my first trip to the carnival.

“Yes. This is amazing.” I said with excitement. “I love it.”

“Well I love you.” He said as he pulled me close.

“And I love you.” I kissed him. I really did love him. He makes me smile and never makes me bored. We were standing in the middle of the carnival after we went to a ring toss. He won me a big teddy bear.

“Do you like your bear?” he said as he held my hand tight as we started walking.

“Yes, I do.” I said. I didn’t really care about the PDA (public display of affection). I was with him and he was with me which is what really mattered. We were being looked at by others since we were holding hands and kissing but I doubt we were the only couple there.

“Good.” he chuckled. “That ring toss was hard.”

“Well, you’re my winner.” I said as I smiled and hugged the bear tighter.

“Should I be worried about you leaving me for the bear?” he asked jokingly.

“Of course not babe.” I said as I stood on my tiptoes and gave him a kiss on the cheek. He smiled and stopped walking. “Are you alright?” He had only a slight smile and was holding my hand tight.

“Well, I have been wanting to talk about something but I don’t really know how to say it.” he said. My immediate thought was oh my god, he is going to break up with me. This made me worry a lot.

“Babe, are you….?” I couldn’t get the question out. I was so worried. He could see that my smile went away and how I was practically shaking.

“No no no. I promise I am not breaking up with you.” he said as he looked into my eyes. “Just, I have a surprise for you.” I noticed he started to shake.

“You better not be lying to me.” I said because I still had the thought of him breaking up with me in my head.

“No I am not. Close your eyes.” He said as he held my hand. I closed my eyes and he let go of my hands. My bear was next to my leg but I didn’t know where he was at the moment. The anticipation was killing me. “Now, open.” He was on his knee with a ring in his hands.

“What?” I said as I put my hands to my mouth.

“Lily Ann Grace, will you marry me?” he said with the most nervous face I had ever seen him in.

“Yes. Yes I will.” His face lit up and a huge smile filled his face. He put the ring on my finger and pulled me in for a kiss.

“I love you so much, Lily.” He said holding me tight.

“Alex, I love you so much too.”
