WordsA Poem by Aimee RobinsonThis is a poem I wrote out of regret and sadness today. I didn't want to write it... But I did. I had to. Today marks a year of that one special day I don't think I can ever forget.
Words
Words. sweet words, charming words, butterfly-filling-stomach words. Meaningless words. Fading, drifting away into the past. She needs them. He regrets them. A year ago they meant the world to the two hopeless lovers. Happiness and joy filled their souls as they joined together as one after all the pain they endured the previous months. Love, laughter, smiles, and pure excitement. A perfect moment. …then a week passes. He tells her he must leave and that he doesn’t care for her anymore. “My feelings have died away,” he says with that crisp, clean voice of his that she used to love hearing on the phone. And she breaks apart. why? Why? WHY? Questions flood her mind. Tears pour down her face. He was all she ever wanted, and he walks away just like that. His eyes like a clear sky, nothing to them. No emotions. Nothing. Words… Simple white words left untouched. It scars her deeper each time she reads them. Because she knows they will never revive themselves again. The time has passed. So a year goes by. She tries to comfort her pain with other boys. There are sparks for awhile, then they just fade away into the distance. She still yearns for him, but she won’t allow herself to believe it. She can’t. Yet… The thirst is unbearable. His face appears everywhere she goes, and that perfect smile is unforgettable. Thoughts swarm her head. Is he hiding something? Is it possible… no. No. NO. This is reality. Not dreams and imagination. He could never love me again. So she walks through life Everyday concealing her true feelings, revealing them to no one. Going through the motions to make herself appear like it is really her. Laughing, joking around and smiling. She kisses her boyfriend, holds his hand, and whispers “I love you” in his ear. But everything is fake. A lie. She only wants the day to come where maybe everything would make sense again. He would surprise her one day at her front door, and forgive. Apologize for everything and give her that smile no one else could ever match. Tell her she means the world to him, and begin a brand new love that will never end. © 2009 Aimee Robinson |
