The Soldiers Cry

The Soldiers Cry

By

Jose M. Euvin

Hold your soldiers hand

Hold them close to your heart

Watch them as they march away

As the time come’s for them to part

You cried when he went away

You held the children tight

“Daddies working late”

“He wont be home tonight…”

Many nights you cried alone

You held his pillow tight

Wishing he would walk in through that door

And stop your lonely cry

The children asked for their father

They were too young to call him “Dad”

He never met his youngest daughter

A faint memory’s all he has

With every call you got excited

His one day close to coming home

And then you got the letter

Sorry, your husband….

“Why did they take him away…?”

so unrelatable to my little world.. a disturbing insight into the terrifying prospect of sending those we love to their very possible end.
good stuff.

A very powerful and emotive poem...you leave the reader hanging which reflects the feelings of the persona ... very well constructed. Bethlynne.

Thank you for your service! Very often we write with more emotion about those things that we know, the things that tore our heart in two. Thanks for sending this!

How poignantly heartbreaking...your words paint a powerful picture of hope and broken dreams. A good friend of mine is currently dealing with the struggle of her new husband going away to war for a year and this is her greatest fear. It touches us all in one way or another, great or small. Thank you for your service to our country and I applaud your dedication to your son. I'm glad you were able to express and share your experience with the rest of us. A great write!
