Words Unspoken

By

Jose M. Euvin

Maybe I should have asked

Maybe you should have told me

I love to watch you sleep

So peaceful in your bed

I long to hear you speak

So many things unsaid

“Grab your things and pack”

Was the last you said

Bring peace into my life

And take the pain away

Maybe I’ll say

“I love you”

And hope to hear it back

Maybe I’ll try to hold you

And relieve our past

Life is not what I expected

Our journey wasn’t long

Your love I have neglected

I never meant to do you wrong

There you lay asleep

Your life has come to pass

I gently kiss your lips

And close your dreamy eyes

I’ll leave you now

For good

As your wake has come to pass

I’ll give you one last kiss

And burn it with our past

I leave you now

With words unspoken

"I leave you now

With words unspoken"

I have unspoken words of my own. I look for the courage to speak of love before it is too late. My unspoken words are different than yours. Still, I understand the unspoken. It is tragic.

How sad...it is a wonderful poem to have evoked such emotion. Your ryming is a little eratic, sometimes there. sometimes not. I also found a few grammatical errors. You say 'than' instead of 'then' in fifth line of the third stanza. Nothing major, but I'm into details.

I really liked the lines:
"I'll give you one last kiss
And burn it with our past"

Very emotive, that line. It sparks off images in my head of a man bending down to kiss his sleeping love before he walks out the door to leave her. It sounds harsh, but is what must be done for them both to be happy. Sometimes love isn't enough. And sometimes it is better not to know that the love was there and shared.

Ah, how tragic...

Wow, that really says alot. You managed to bring forth feelings I haven't really ever known with this one poem. I am speechless for a word to describe it, none I know would do it justice. I extol you.

Wow. Eloquent writing. Tragic and heartfelt. So many times we don't 'let go' well. This one - though incredibly sad, makes me believe the writer is strong...strong enough to say goodbye without doing further harm. A powerful poem indeed. Well done.

This was such a sad read. It seemed like the death of love. Which is never a good thing... in anyone's book.

The sadder poems seem to suit you. You write them rather well. Thank you for sharing, this was another strong showing.
