Words Unspoken

By

Jose M. Euvin

Maybe I should have asked

Maybe you should have told me

I love to watch you sleep

So peaceful in your bed

I long to hear you speak

So many things unsaid

“Grab your things and pack”

Was the last you said

Bring peace into my life

And take the pain away

Maybe I’ll say

“I love you”

And hope to hear it back

Maybe I’ll try to hold you

And relieve our past

Life is not what I expected

Our journey wasn’t long

Your love I have neglected

I never meant to do you wrong

There you lay asleep

Your life has come to pass

I gently kiss your lips

And close your dreamy eyes

I’ll leave you now

For good

As your wake has come to pass

I’ll give you one last kiss

And burn it with our past

I leave you now

With words unspoken

This is beautifully sad. It almost brought a tear. Its a heartfelt piece reminding us to say those unspoken words today, cause you might not get a tomorrow!. So sad and true. Nice job!

so deep. it's....intensly romantic, yet, horribly heartbreaking.

I imagined the 'you' was an unfinished poem...one that will never be finished, never spoken. What are mere human relations to the love for a poem? Sob.

Those unspoken words can hurt us the most. I love these two lines:

I'll give you one last kiss
And burn it with our past

The rhyming structure threw me off a bit the first time I read it but upon second reading it flowed rather nicely.

*Closing the dreamy eyes*

very nice! although the flow of the peom was a bit off since you rhyme with on stanza and you don't on the next, but other than that it was heartbreaking and an enjoyable read. :)

Oh wow this was truly brilliant. So heart wrenching, with a deeper meaning lingering right at the end. So true, life is short and precious, never delay and never hesitate in saying the things that really needs to be said 'cause tomorrow may never come and all those words would fall right into the dark unknown.

It's a heartfelt write. That lost love and not saying what you wanted or should have said at the time.
Here is where it's a little creepy for me.
"There you lay asleep
Your life has come to pass
I gently kiss your lips
And close your dreamy eyes'
It's with the your life has come to pass line. Like the lovers quarrel that just went to far. I could be misreading it or too much into it.
Because earlier it sounds like she's putting him out. But it all wraps up well. If that is they way it is, I like the subtleness of that scene. Nothing to imply that's what happened. If not it still works for me.

Great write, regrets of a love turned sour, leaving you with the thoughts and feelings of unspoken apologies.
