Words Unspoken

By

Jose M. Euvin

Maybe I should have asked

Maybe you should have told me

I love to watch you sleep

So peaceful in your bed

I long to hear you speak

So many things unsaid

“Grab your things and pack”

Was the last you said

Bring peace into my life

And take the pain away

Maybe I’ll say

“I love you”

And hope to hear it back

Maybe I’ll try to hold you

And relieve our past

Life is not what I expected

Our journey wasn’t long

Your love I have neglected

I never meant to do you wrong

There you lay asleep

Your life has come to pass

I gently kiss your lips

And close your dreamy eyes

I’ll leave you now

For good

As your wake has come to pass

I’ll give you one last kiss

And burn it with our past

I leave you now

With words unspoken

This poem moved me! Sad, nicely written!

My favorite lines, the burn part: I'll give you one last kiss/And burn it with our past

The two repetitive lines that caught me up:
Your life has come to pass and/As your wake has come to pass

I was assuming it was symbolic of love dead? But the writer "closes [her] dreamy eyes"? Now I am wondering if she died?

I really like the feel of this piece. You have some great imagery to illude to the 'aloneness' this person feels. When communication from both sides isn't there, there's a lot of conclusions drawn and realities can be so greatly different in the end, not to mention the disappointment.
Thanks for sharing.

This has some really beautiful imagery. It can be interpreted in a few ways, but each is really emotional and heartbreaking with maybe a tough of hope.

This is heart-wrenching. These words hold a lot of emotion. The last lines are my favorite. Great job! This is beautiful.

Oh wow. I love that and it's got a lot of emotion in it. It's really well written and all of that. You can really tell how you feel and all of that. Way to go on it.

If there be grief, then let it be but rain, And this but silver grief for grieving's sake, If these green woods be dreaming here to wake Within my heart, if I should rouse again. But I shall sleep, .. more..
