At My Best

At My Best

A Poem by Michael Handel
"

10:42...Sat. Night..alone(by choice)...just watched "Sid & Nancy"..felt like writing..fifty seconds later......this..so, yeah..it's kind of raw. I think you miss something when you cook it too much.

"

   The best writing occurs

               when

       you can get the

words to dance effortlessly

       across the page,

         when the words

appear before your pen-strokes

   etch them onto the page

                 and

           out of time

         outside of time

        outside of rhyme

     no oscillating scheme

        no scheme at all.

               Formless

     from the void of nothing

                   and

i   n   t  o   t  h  e   w  o  r  l  d

                  thrust

                bursting

                 forever.

That is when writing is at its best

                 for me.

Author's Note

Michael Handel
This was the quickest poem I've written...the layout was tricky and I don't think I've ever even attempted a "layout" before...It just seemed "right" at the time.

Seems right to me Mr. Mike... That's how some of the best stuff comes about ... it just flows.

i love it. yep. i do. i'm actually really hardpressed to find very structured poetry that i like -- especially if it rhymes. so the whole point of this poem i could totally relate to. besides that, it was wonderfully written like everything you write, so no surprise there.

you're a goldmine.
