Silencing Herself Forever

Silencing Herself Forever

A Poem by Gabrielle Lynn

Late at night, she hears a voice
"Just kill yourself" What other choice?
The next day she chooses not to talk
Maybe it's better off that way
The day goes by like an easy walk
Then it's night again, and the voices come to play
"You know you're going to end up talking again,
and all hell will be back on your shoulders."
She simply nods and take two pills from the container,
then she falls into a peaceful sleep
The day after, the voices come again
But how? They only come when sunlight ends
"It's all over now" The voice let's out a laugh
She cover's her ears and tells herself it won't last

It has been a week, the voices have gotten louder
But she stays quiet, not giving out a laughter
Her parents are getting worried,
they try to take her to the doctor
"There is nothing wrong with your daughter"

One day she couldn't take it anymore
The voices laughed as her parents argued in the front seat
"Mom,Dad..please stop!"
She talked. She didn't want to but she did.
And the voices where right, all hell was on her shoulders
The parents turned from yelling at each other to yelling at her
She burried her head in her hands and let the tears drain
That night she took the rest of the pills
15..that should be enough
She through them in her mouth
Silencing herself forever

Well, as a retired therapist, the psych content is interesting to me. You have two disorders here, of course, psychosis and depression. Next time you write about auditory hallucinations, have the protagonist have a dialogue with the voices--that's what I recommend my patients do.
