A Life Too Ordinary ...A Poem by Roy
When I look at my life in retrospect, It reveals itself As a journey Through paths dusty and corners mundane, As if I have been engulfed by four walls, Deprived of an outer, eventful world By leviathans of ground glass, Which tease my existence such, That when the raindrops knock on the windowpane, I can hear their pitter-patter Yet (alas!) Can all but feel their curing caress, Or smell the fresh air that they carry home. Home! Yes, my home is a prison, And my prison, a home. For the bars behind which I lie Fetter my fantasy To rocks of platitude, Responsibility and want. And the darkness of my cell Has so blinded me, That I fear – to dream. I am stranded in a desert, Surrounded by a ‘silicic’ populace Devoid of individuality. I yearn for incident. But the coin never favors me. © 2009 RoyFeatured Review
