One Mistake

One Mistake

A Poem by Emily :)

He loved her smile for it shined so bright

It seemed to glow up all the night

She loved to hear this boy speak

His very words made her weak

She chased him through all her dreams

Together, they were a perfect team

He would complete her every thought

Between each breath that she caught

No one could ever tear them apart

Deep inside they had their hearts

To others they were unmistakable

With promises made irreplaceable

Yet the wind caught up with all their dreams

And stole it all with evil schemes

One mistake broke it all

And with that their hearts would fall

Her smile faded

Words came that she hated

After all, his voice turned cruel

And with each breath she grew into a fool

The sun would say “Give back the shine”

When it belonged to them the whole time

The old notes would say “Take back these words,”

“You don’t owe her anything in the world”

The moon would whisper “Let it all go”

The night would yell “Your tears are falling like snow”

The birds would say “You lost it all”

And the grass would claim they let it fall.

Her heart would scream “Please, don’t go”

And his would reply “It’s your fault, you know”

Still, she knew it wasn’t true

And in his heart he held the clue

While she could be the one to blame

He still jumped at her very name

She would forever miss his voice

But no one ever gave her the choice

The lockers would cry to look away

To save the misery for another day

The students would always talk

With each step she’d stealthily walk

He’d look away in the hall

And ignore all her every call

No one knew if the rumors were true

They wouldn’t dare ask “Was it you?”

No one knew why they ended it all

No one saw their hearts truly fall.
