Loving Without Wisdom

Loving Without Wisdom

A Poem by caitlin
"

Inspired by the quote "One cannot love and be wise."

"

For so long
I have loved you,
And for so long
I have held you
In my tired arms.
What I wouldn’t give
To hold you in these arms
For the rest of our lives,
But I know it simply can not be,
We simply can not be.

So I often I have heard
That one can not be
So deeply in love
And still be so wise
As to walk away
From such a deep love
When time comes for that love to end.
So true are those words to me.

When I walk away
I do not wish for you to cry,
Though I know
Your tears
Tainted by the black eyeliner you wear
Will poor from your mournful eyes
No matter how hard
You or I will them to stop.

I will not look back
Once I take that first step.
For if I look back
Then my leaving
Will only make it harder
For both of us to move on.
I will walk away
And resistant the urge
No matter how strong
To look back once more
At your beautiful face.

I hope you will understand,
My dear,
That our love simply can not be.
I thought
And to this day
Still do believe
That we were meant to be,
But this world
Has torn us apart
And no longer
Can I put up the will to fight,
Nor can I any longer
Stand to live
Loving without wisdom.
