These Four Walls

These Four Walls

A Poem by caitlin

These four walls
Could tell stories of centuries past,
They could talk all night long,
Speak of the things they’ve heard,
The horrors their invisible eyes have seen.

These four walls
Know more than any human could,
They’ve heard more,
And seen more
Then you or I could ever imagine.

These four walls
Are not just pillars
That hold this house together,
But rather they are a prison
For the secrets that remain here.

These four walls
Know more pain,
And more horror
Then any human
Should ever have to face.

These four walls
Keeps their voices silent
So that we will never know
Of the stories they could tell,
Of the secrets they keep locked away.

These four walls
Introduce us to mercy,
Keeping hidden from us
That which we wish not to see,
That which we wish not to know.

These four walls
Keep out the light
That would otherwise make us see
By showing us the shadows
Of the demons that remain.

These four walls
Have become partnered with the darkness,
Protecting us from the past that they know,
From the things experienced,
But wish they had not.

These four walls
Could tell stories of centuries past,
They could talk all night long,
Speak of things they’ve heard,
The horrors their invisible eyes have seen.
