If Rome Falls

If Rome Falls

A Poem by caitlin

What have we got to fear?
So what if Rome falls?
What has Rome’s crumbling pillars
Got to do with us?

Our love is made of soft stone.
We are pillars
That can never fall,
That can never crumble.

My heart burns
With the flames
That encase my skin,
But still I do not fall.

I know you feel the heat,
I know the fire has spread
To your soul,
But still you do not fall.

Our love is made of soft stone.
We are pillars
That can never fall,
That can never crumble.

So what have we got to fear?
So what if Rome falls?
What has Rome’s crumbling pillars
Got to do with us?

This is really sweet, and the implication that love is stronger then one of the mightiest and most long-lasting empires that ever stood really makes love seem like something incredible (which it is). Your writing is very neatly organized, and the repetition reinforces the sense that love will never fall, never crumble.

This is a pretty piece, dedicated to the eternalization of love, and I enjoyed reading it.
