A Soldier's Story

A Soldier's Story

A Poem by [.forever.dreaming.]

Alone in the cold, wet dirt,
Never imagining how much this could scar; could hurt,
He sits and lets out a sigh,
But never once does he cry,
He was taught and trained to be tough,
No matter how rough,
Alot of his friends lives lost,
At an extremely heavy cost,
He imagines how they felt,
As his heart begins to melt,
The warning siern begins to sound,
And once again he is war front bound,
He picks up his gun,
As the smoke blocks out the sun,
The explosion of shells,
Proves that once again he is in hell,
His first shot fired,
The result is another enemy expired,
As the body falls lifelessly to the ground,
His heart begins to pound,
He thinks once more of every friend,
He thinks of how they met their untimely end,
On the front he falls to his knees,
Opens his mouth and lets out a scream,
Suddenly there's a pain in his chest,
Begining to think now that he needs to rest,
He falls his stomach in the dirt,
No longer able to feel his hurt,
He sees the faces of his lost friends,
Knowing now he has met his end,
A single teardrop escapes his eye,
This is his farewell his; his last good-bye,
Although this seems awfully gorey,
This is a lost soldier's story.
