The Domino Effect

The Domino Effect

A Poem by Travis Ralston aka LIAR
"

Starts with one ... ends with another

"

It starts with one
Ends with another
Series of doomed events
Collect on the porch
Waiting to be let in

After all the time
We wasted
Waiting for the right moment
To say to one another what
It is we felt
Turns out there wasn't much
There to say

Topple over little cages
They keep us out of the
Real world
Chain link fence wrapped in razors
All we can do is sit back and think
Of how to make our escape

After all the time
We wasted
Hoping for a single few seconds
To take each others breath away
Turns out that we
Weren't supposed to

We've come so far and yet we're stranded
Tell us a fortune and we'll believe it
Maybe there will be a shining moment
When things that went dark suddenly
Burst to life

After all the time
We wasted
Working towards a dream
That we both had in our minds
Turns out that we
Weren't allowed to live it

Oh, man, that last stanza really slaps you in the face. A harsh reality.
Love this, really, really well written and very emotive. Left me thinking at the end, podwering this whole domino effect I come into contact with every day...
Good stuff!
