FinallyA Story by xlunalovexjust a short story I wrote for the troops and their families
Eyes hungrily searching across the crowd tear up. Where is he? He is supposed to come today.
"James!" my voice calls out. "James where are you?!?" I called out into the crowd of cami cladded bodies. Tears well up in the still searching eyes. "Mary!" I heard his velvet voice call. I turn and turn. Where is he? It is always the same question. Getting dizzy from turning and only seeing the army uniforms over and over again. I stop. "James!" I call out to his face. He turns the other way, not noticing me. We were switching positions. "Mary!" he booms. I push people out to get to him. "Sorry. Oops. Sorry!" I shout over the screams and complaints of people. "James!" I yell again. It felt like forever as I ran into his open and inviting arms. "I missed you so damn much! Are you okay?" I said through tears and mumbled voices. "It's okay babe. Calm down. Everything is fine. I missed you so much too." James told me. His eyes welled up in tears as he hugged me. His hand moved down to my belly. "How is the baby?" he asked. "It's a girl." I said with laughter and smiles. He cries a little more before clutching me to him with his fingers in my hair. Finally I get my husband back. Finally I get to hug and kiss him.
