NothingA Poem by Sarah RodeoThis is a short poem about a woman who waits for everything. In the end, nothing happens. This is an open poem where ultimately YOU decide who the woman is and what the poem is really about.
The woman stood in front of the table,
Her sad hands wringing
As she waited for her husband
And his paycheck.
Nothing.
She shuffled over
To the fireplace,
Standing by the glowing embers
As she waited for her hands to warm.
Nothing.
She walked to the window,
Looked outside
At the floating snowflakes
And waited for them to settle.
Nothing.
She waited.
Waited for her husband
And his paycheck,
Waited for her hands to warm,
Waited for the snow
To settle.
Nothing.
She tiptoed to the dresser,
Pulled out a small doll
And wound it up.
A small song, a little smile,
And then
Nothing.
