Out on my mother's errand...A Poem by Amé1st verse written in my head on the 12th of October 2010, while I was out on my mother's errand; the rest were written right here just now, January 6, 2011.
Out on my mother's errand
And off the beaten track The journey there is perilous And so's the journey back There are bridges for my crossing There are people scattered there There is no one here to speak to There is dust upon the air Here are sentinels who guide me Through the gates I wish to pass Here are smiles, amused and helpful For such a young and wandering lass There's the quiet time for waiting At the highway eatery The sky is dull, foretells a storm The clouds are silvery The prize is claimed, the bells are rung And off I rush to ride Whatever ride I should chance to catch On the brutal highwayside The mild smile of a stranger Who won't do me any good A tap upon my shoulder In a dangerous neighborhood The trickster sat beside me Smiling, masked, and lively The passersby did turn their eyes To see not the thievery But I had other things on my mind And I hadn't time to be cheated on And though there be dragons, mine was a path That a mother's command had smiled upon There are bridges for the crossing And swiftly I must stride My sweetheart waits this afternoon The day is young, the roads are wide The dragons can come roaring Come roaring after me But I laugh and I dance and I fly away The world is somehow mine, you see So when I'm out on my mother's errand And off the beaten track The journey to which is perilous As is the journey back... There is everything here for my heart to fear And the roads do twist and crack I so love these journeys perilous And I love these journeys back
