RefugeA Poem by Erica MarieThis poem is about my parents recent separation. My mom and I were best friends growing up and she was always there, but because of my dad she moved away at the beginning of this year. You were my refuge Sworn by white satin blankets Covered in sleepy eyes And cartoon night lights Dressing me in homemade costumes And playing where the sidewalk scratched Where dessert seemed like a present And what I wore never matched You held me close And embraced every trust Such breakable, delicate hugs But so full of a mothers love But now the sheets are torn And the promises amiss All the time we spent together Has now come to this The fire of your love for me Wasn't enough to make you stay Your 25 year bond, broken-- 548 miles away And for the first time in 18 years There's no presents for you this Christmas But the worst part of it all might be You won't even come home for me © 2012 Erica MarieAuthor's Note
