Dear Conscience

Dear Conscience

A Poem by Kaitlin

Dear Conscience,

You are driving me insane,

Telling me all these crazy things.

You put evil thoughts in my head,

And the next second, you’re leading me down the righteous path.

You are quite confusing.

Please, make up your mind.

You witness everything I do wrong.

And you never fail to remind me of it.

You are like an evil tyrant in my head,

Trying to dictate my every thought.

Sometimes I try to picture what you look like.

Are you an angel?

How about a demon?

Are you Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio?

Well, whatever you are, I wish you had a mute button.

But then I realized that without you,

I wouldn’t exist.

Maybe I am you.

Or are you, me?

Maybe we are the same thing.

I guess this means that I’m the crazy one.

Amazing write! I loved the flow of thoughts and can completely relate to the constant struggle to remember and forget. Moreover, I love how the opening line ties into the closing line and really unites the piece. Great job!

I loved this; the flow of thoughts and feelings! Such an intriguing conversation taking place, and the last paragraph so deeply philosophical. Excellent write!

I like how you personified your conscience. Right to the point, but you are trying to pin down your conscience after all:) You write very well. Most of the younger writers on here use a lot of slang, "text-speak," and many have horrible spelling/grammar. Kudos!

I like the poem. Conscience can make us do the right things even if it feel wrong. I like the feel and the story in the words. A excellent poem.
