Memories

Memories

A Poem by Kaitlin

Memories are a way of holding on to the things you love,

The things you are,

And the things you never want to lose.

Memories never allow the deceased to truly die

Nor allow the pain to be forgotten.

But some memories can warm our hearts even in the coldest of winters.

Memories are like daily entries in our personal diary that we can cherish forever.

But why are some memories so easily forgotten,

So easily erased from our life’s diary?

Yet others are etched into every piece of our soul.

But we must put aside the array of emotions from our past

And take a step into the present,

A step back into reality.

Because one who dwells on past will only impede their future,

A future of endless possibilities.

So when we do look backwards for a while,

It is to refresh the eye,

To restore it,

And render it,

So that it is more fit for its prime function of looking into the future.

This was a really well-written poem! I liked the honesty and wisdom that your poem exuded, and thought that you did really well in making the reader think carefully about memories. Your line breaks were placed really precisely and effectively, making this an effortlessly flowing read. I loved your last stanza! It had a lot of truth to it. A very thought-provoking write. Nice work,

Great poem. I love the emotions you caught in this poem. You expressed a lot of feelings we all have. I enjoyed this one. It warms the heart and attacks regret with an violent barrage of optimism. The style here is really nice.

Ah, very nice. I didn't know you were a poet. Welcome to Writer's Cafe.
Anyway, I love the flow of this poem, how you're telling a story or as if you're telling us something [which, indeed, you are].
The only thing I thought didn't fit, was your last line, of most importance to your poem, since it seemed a bit too long for the rest of your lines. But other than that, I enjoyed reading it.
...and a side note, this fits well into the end of 'Waking Up' by OneRepublic, which was playing when I read this. :D
