When I meet my Maker
Or am to be branded by him a taker My soul will softly say Another night, another day When the youthful side of me be cast My arrogant thoughts will be gone at last My spirit and soul may yet be slain. But will the man of bone remain? This heart that feels, these lungs that shout My thoughts still hustle us about This mind that intensifies it! Or so it seems Is nothing but a hive of dreams. People today hunger for power And can't find God, in their little hour My undying mind is theirs to control Consisted of dying flesh and dying soul. Tis long till eve and morn are gone Slowly, the endless night lingers on And upon departure, grows a birth That shall last as long as earth Lie down in the bed of dust; Bear the fruit that bear you must Bring the eternal seed to light And morn is all the same as night. Rest from your travels, your sores The pains of change shall be no more Yet the day shall always shift and change There is nothing to gain, from your pain Another body, the skin cast The men that used you will forever last Another night, another day My soul will softly say These men now do my will Even tomorrow I will be the master still Now both my flesh and stone are strong It shall be easy to push the slaves along Before my glory shall decay Every man, like dust will be blown clean away And my soul will softly say Another night, another day
