Chapter 3: Annie

“I don’t even know what I want.” I said to myself a few times out loud.

Brooke walked in. “What do you mean you don’t know what you want?”

“Why does it matter what I want anyways? I don’t deserve it.” I said.

“You deserve everything you want in life.” Brooke said.

“Brooke, I blame myself for everything that happened and I know you blame me to.”

“For everything like what?” Brooke asked.

“Mom and Dad.” I said.

She looked at me.

“You couldn’t have done anything to save them.” Brooke said.

“No, I could have stopped them but I chose not to.”

“You didn’t know the plane crash was going to happen. It was fate and you can never choose or fight that.”

She walked over to me.

“I love you Autumn, and I don’t blame you for anything that has happened. You need to know that.”

I wrapped my arms around her and gave her a huge hug.

“I love you more than anything, and if anything happened to you, I don’t know what I would do or where I would be.” I said.

Nothing was greater than this moment right now. I knew she didn’t blame me, but as much as I wanted to believe her, I knew that wasn’t the full truth.

I was walking into town after the talk with Brooke. Flashbacks came back most of the time when I reached the street. How was it that every single memory I had with my parents began to disappear? But I always seemed to remember that crash.

I reached the town diner walking in and deciding on what to order.

“What would you like?” The waitress asked me.

I looked around and nobody was insight. We were the only two people in this diner at 8 o’clock in the morning.

“I don’t know what I want, what do you have that’s good and fulfilling?” I asked.

“Cheesecake and coffee is always good but never fulfilling.” She said.

“That’s fine. Thank you.” I said.

About two minutes later she came back with hot coffee and cheesecake that smelled so good I wanted to sink my teeth into it.

Before I knew it the cheesecake was gone off my plate and into my stomach. The waitress was wrong though, it was pretty fulfilling. I gave her a quick tip before I left and I was on my way home when a truck stopped on the way and asked me if I wanted a ride.

“Ryan?” I asked.

“Autumn? I thought you looked familiar on the road. Do you need a ride?”

“You wouldn’t mind?” I asked.

“Why would I? Were friends.” Ryan smiled.

“Ok thank you.” I smiled back.

I jumped up and into the seat of his truck.

“What were you doing out in town?” Ryan asked.

“I went to grab a bite to eat at the diner.” I said.
