You Made It Through The Day

You Made It Through The Day

A Poem by Alias

Sometimes I forget
Just getting out of bed
The little victories
I overcame the dread.
Sometimes I forget
That today I did do well
I had something to eat
The heartache I did quell
Sometimes I remember
When my heart feels grey
That I should be proud
I made it through the day.

Wow. I feel this on a whole new level.
Sometimes even the tiniest things should be celebrated. Getting out of bed, eating something, laughing. They seem minimal to others, but they are important to us.
Thank you for writing this and sharing it. I think I stand for a lot of people when I say that this is what we needed. Look at all these people you have impacted. So many loved your words.
Be proud of yourself.
Be proud of making it through the day.
I hope things get easier. I love your writing.

I completely agree with Jesse on this one. It is all about those little victories. I know the feelings you speak of well. It took me a long time to realise that what was making me feel this way was depression, but also underlying health issues that hadn't been diagnosed. Speaking to my doctor brought a whole raft of tests and two and a half years later, they know the problem, but not the cause. It was as simple as getting my blood pressure taken that started it and now I feel a different person now that the meds are doing their job. My b.p. is abnormal in that it goes too low, as well as too high, and when the low happens, it is exactly as you speak, even eating becomes an achievement. Sixteen hours in bed becomes an achievement when the day before it was 18. I guess what I am trying to say that it was just an off the cuff remark that I thought nothing of to the doctor that led to solving one of the problems, that has led to solving more. It probably saved my life.
You capture here perfectly the struggle from within, and the hope it can be beaten. Stay strong and look forward to the next victory.

It's so easy to forget sometimes just how monumental the everyday things are.

Sometimes we have to celebrate the smaller victories in life, especially when we are feeling down. depression is nothing to mess with and it is like a snowball that can take off from time to time. knowing when to say, 'hey I am doing alright' and deserve a pat on the back is an important thing.

I like what you have to say, simple and to the point.
