Aftershave

Aftershave

A Poem by Alias

A remnant of you is left on my pillow
After you've gone, it still comforts me
I relish it as I relished you
The morning reminder a fragrant dew.

When we embrace I am incensed
It clings familiarly to my coat and scarf
You marked me with it
I belong to you and I willingly submit

I was cold and you lent me your hoodie
Immersed in your protective scent
I let it seep into my skin
As you envelop me in a warm grin

But now
a man walks by me
Or sits beside me
He does not walk like you, nor talk like you
But I smell
my pillow
your hoodie
and our embrace
and all I see
is your sweet face.

I was once a bad boy who went away from time to time. I used to use Aramis as aftershave. My wife would pour some drops upon my pillow and find nominal comfort embracing a pillow that smelled like me, but wasn't me, and should have been me...such a foolish, selfish, lazy, irresponsible young man was I...your poem brought back memories touched me which is really what it's all about. :) i appreciate having read it. Thank you

Yes, the sense of smell stimulates memory better than almost any other. Even sight seems to be less able to bring the mind back to a specific moment like smell does.
I hope they are happy memories for you.
A believable write and a snap shot or scent to remind me of the loves in my own life...
