The Silence

The Silence

A Poem by Anita Harris

Waiting
Unsaid words linger in the air
Clinging to the unknown,
Grasping for release

Envy
I long to resemble the invisible
To be the outsider-
For once, then

Finally
You speak aloud the words assumed
Cutting through the night
Wounding my heart

Yet
I know you’re in the right
Our problems have elevated
High beyond reach

Still
I can’t seem to let go
Something keeps me connected
Cant get free

Convinced
We’re living art displayed for all
But only we understand
The real meaning

Now
I wait in the silence again
Pretending to be okay
You know better

Please
Say everything will be just fine
“You’ll always be mine”
Stuck in my head

Remember
We were lost in the illusions
That nothing else mattered
Reality took over

Life
Flooded our dreams
Drowned our love
Stole every once of what we had
Now all that’s left,
All that we have to call ours,
Is lost in
The silence

This is just so touching, and esp love that only two people get with the entire world just judging can be the worst. Trying to live up to other expectations when love knows not even what to except....... other than endorphins that can't help but spark.

"We’re living art displayed for all
But only we understand
The real meaning"

Perfectly said, I'm in love with those few lines!

Thank you, Joan. I'm glad you like it! :)
That last few lines: "Now all that's left, All that we have to call ours, Is lost in The silence". They really connected with me, very poignant. I thought it had meditative but flowing structure all the way through, which I liked (:

You are so very welcome, Anita. :)
Gentle, yet at the same time, powerful. Lost in the thought that waiting to hear the silence end, only for it to renew the silence, is torture to the mind. Beautifully written. thought provoking.
