A poem about cancer, and fighting back.

I will not allow you to be my kryptonite

You will never have the last laugh

They’ll cut me open, pump me full of drugs

They’ll extract your poisons

You can take away everything that defines my womanhood

You can take everything that ever made me feel desirable

You can make me a shallow, barren, lifeless vessel

But you most certainly will not put out my fire

You will never take my spirit

You will never get the best of me

I’ll keep my head high, I’ll fight back

Until my last breath I’ll hit you back right below the belt
