It was the first snow of the year and the grounds were already soiled with the footsteps of a young woman. She knew that she shouldn’t be out alone and that her King would not approve of her disappearing act during the ball; but she could not help herself. The snow seemed to call to her, and it seemed as if it could make all her problems vanish. And that was what she need. For all her problems to go away and leave her be! There was just too much going on and now with the baby…

“Babies.” She whispered, “I’m having twins.” She rubbed her belly as other details of the previous night filled her head. She could still hear the old woman’s voice whispered through her darken chambers. It was a voice that she wished that she would never have to hear again, but she knew that her wish will go unanswered.

“You will have to give up one of your children, Mi’lady” A raspy voice filled the darkened chambers making the Queen jump from underneath her blankets. “For they will change your loving husband into something you do not wish to see…”

She wished that was a lie, but she knew that what the woman said was true. Her husband was influenced by power and her children could very well have powers that would make the gods jealous. She knew that if he had his way King Kaden will make her babies into weapons.

But what she did not understand, was how easily she believed this woman. The old hag couldn’t know that she was going to have twins, no one could have guessed. Nor could have the woman predicted the change in her husband with she were to keep both of her babies. Not unless the woman was a witch of some sort.

“She had to be. How else would she had gotten in the castle last night?” The Queen whispered as she wrapped her arms around giant belly.

She watched the snow fall for a few more seconds before returning to the ball that had been thrown in her honor. As she entered people bowed and curtsied as she walked by, and made her way to her husband of twelve months.

A month has passed and the queen was now spending her last few days of her pregnancy in the birthing chamber. Within the first day Nyx had come to hate the chamber with its darkened windows and stall air. Most of all she missed the freedom of walking in the snow and watching the village children throw snowballs at one another.

It was during her fourth day in the darken chamber when she felt the first pains, and it was the firth when she finally gave birth to two healthy babies. And when the King came down to see her and the children he announced that a ball was to be thrown in honor of his children.

Though that next morning brought sadness to the castle, a sadness that the Queen would never get over, and that one child would suffer for. For one of the children had been stolen in the dark of the night.

--

Eighteen years later…..

“Alix! Get your lazy a*s up!” Lila banged on the wooden door, which kept her from actually coming in and pouring ice cold water on me…as usual. I’m glad I broke down and finally brought a lock for the damn door…though now she just screams louder, which makes me end up on the floor, like where I am this moment.

I am starting to believe this is where I will spend a quarter of my college life, on the floor rubbing my head and thinking of ways to kill my ‘loving’ roommate. The other half of my life will be spent partying, copying notes, cramming for test, and waiting ‘til last minute to do s**t. Or just skipping class all together, which is really wonderful…until your roomie comes and yells some more. I swear she’s like the mother I never wanted, or had…something like that.

Soon enough, I heard someone knocking on the door, and then I heard voices. Voices, which should not be inside this apartment unless they brought food and coffee.  And they had better not start banging on that door.

“Alix! Food!” Why can’t Lila ever be that nice in the morning?

After stretching and running a hand though my mess of hair I finally get off the floor and make my way into the smallish kitchen area.

“Morning boys. Evil roomie.” I smile and take the cup of coffee that’s been handed to me, and ignore the glare that the black hair yeller gave me. “So, Devon…You giving us a ride?”

Devon nodded while he shoved a doughnut in this mouth, while at the same time trying to get his shoulder length, chocolate brown hair out of his face. The hair was winning.

--

The morning light shone through the curtains of the Prince’s chamber as the servant crawled from the bed and made his way down to the kitchens to get his master’s food. The prince himself was still sleeping comfortably dreaming of power that he knew was within his reach, and the death of his father at his hands.

He sat his desk looking over papers he already knew, pouring over his notes that he had written months. The only item on his cluttered desk that remained untouched was a dark, brown leather book that had papers sticking out of it.  He still wasn’t sure if he should open it and spend the next few days reading every inch of the thing. But what would he tell his father.

The prince sighed as he rubbed his forehead and closed his eyes. This was harder than he planned, and he wasn’t sure if his other half was worth it. He glanced at the book on the edge of the desk, still debating on rather or not he should read its contents.

A soft knock at his chamber door brought him out of his thoughts as he quickly hid the notes and books in the desk draw. After making should that everything was hidden from sight, he stood and talked towards the window.

“Come in.” He called out while leaning on the wall and crossing his arms. He listened as light footsteps crossed the stone floor and the rustle of a dress as the she drew closer to him.

--

“Hells yeah!” I grin as I read the note posted on the door. No class for me! Though, she could’ve been nice and sent an email out instead. “No classes whatsoever! Now all I want to do is go back to bed!” I grin as I skip down the hallway.

I’m starting to think that this day may actually have its good side, and that I can go back home and sleep until I have to go to work. So, now all I have to do is find Devon and tell him the wonderful news so he can take me home! Now, where would he be right now?

I walked down the hallway, trying to remember what classes Devon had today, and hoping that I wouldn’t have to go outside. After five minutes I gave up and just decided to call the drummer.

“Hey Alix.”  I love caller id, because we can just skip the ‘who is this’ question.

“Wanna hear something awesome?”  I asked while taking a seat on the stairs and glaring at the people who gave me stranger looks.

“What?” He laughed; I wonder what he was doing?

“All of my classes have been called off, and I’m free as a bird!” Grinning, I flicked some chick off who almost stepped on my bag. “And I was wondering…”

“I’m not skipping just to take you home. Why don’t you just walk?” Well it was worth a shot; maybe I can get him to buy me food after work.

“Fine. Though it would have been nice of you.” I pouted, while grabbing my bag and standing up.

“No guilt trips Alixandra. I have a test in five minutes.” How dare he! Now its food and a nice Mudslide from somewhere.

“Right. Well I was going to say that you could by me foods, and a nice and wonderful drink.” I paused. “Good luck on your test!” I hung up on him while bouncing down the stairs and out the doors and stopping to look at the rain. “Well, it’s just a light drizzle.”

Light drizzle my a*s. About half way home it started to pour down raining, and it was the ice cold rain. Not the fun summer rain. And then I had to walk up three flights of stairs because the stupid elevator still wasn’t been fixed yet.

So, now that I taken a nice long hot shower, I am all ready for a few more hours before work.

                --

“Your father wants you.” She didn’t look at him, just stared out at the knights that were training.

“What are you doing out mother? You should be in your rooms.” The prince stared at the woman in front of him, and wished that he knew her before she became mad.

“You sound just like your father, Aerys.” She looked into his icy blue eyes. Searching for something she knew that she would never find, and yet begging him to find it for her. “You will find her, won’t you?”

“Yes, mother. I will find her, and bring her back here.” Aerys paused, and ran his fingers though his mother’s blond hair. “And once I do, you will never be harmed again.” He kissed her forehead before going to see his father.

There are times when I enjoy working the late shifts at Dixie’s, and I can get some last minute studying in. But then there are nights like tonight, when there is nothing to do, and I’m hoping for some stupid jock to walk in just so I don’t have to sit at the bar waiting for this place to close up.

“Go home Alix. No one’s coming in and the only thing left to do is wipe down the tables.” Robbie said, as he finished counting the money at the bar.

“You sure?” I asked. “I could go ahead and get the tables for you.”

“Get out of here. I know there’s some party going on tonight and that you want to go.” Robbie said.

“Right, and since when do want to wipe the tables. Or even close up.” I eyed him as I stood up. “Unless, you’re meeting someone here.”

“Get out of here!” He growled while pointing towards the door.

“So, you do have a date! Who is it?” All I got was a glare that clearly said to leave or else. Well I’ll just find out tomorrow. “You know, Robbie, you can’t keep whoever it is a secret.” I sang as I grabbed my bag from behind the bar and skipped out the door.

The whole way home I hummed the “Buffy” theme song, pretending that I was a kick-a*s vampire slayer. If only that were true, but life sucks.

As I entered the apartment building the song finally left my head, as I made my way up the stairs. I swear if I find out who killed the poor elevator I’ll kill them. I mean what made them think that it was a good idea, forcing people to actually get exercise. It’s evil pure evil, I mean not even Lila is that evil. B******s.

--

Aerys made his way through the many hallways of the castle, glaring at anyone who dare meet his eye. He did not want to go see his father, the hated the man. Always has and always will. Nothing could change that fact, not even his mother.

It didn’t take long to make it to the throne room, though he wished that he could just kill the man already. But he couldn’t do so, not by himself anyway. His power was not strong enough to take on his father’s guards, but if he had his sister…

“Aw, there you are.” A large man waved him over with a smile on his face. King Kaden, was what the people thought a caring man who loved his family, and would cause a war if anyone had dared to say one bad thing about his wife.  But what the people did not know was that the King would have his guards torture the Queen, and then the King would tell his son that it was to keep the ‘b***h’ in line.

“Is there something you wanted father?” He bowed politely, as he noted young man standing off to the side.

“Yes, I would like you to meet Cullen.” King Kaden watched as the young men shook hands and sized each other up. “He’s a part of the Mages Guild out East, and I want you to show him around.” Aerys eyed his father, knowing that the man was up to something else, and that this Cullen was going to be a spy for his dear old pop.

It’s been over a week since Cullen appeared and Aerys was ready to kill the man, or at least tie him down to his bed and have his way with him. It’s not like his father would miss the mage, well he might, especially if Cullen missed his daily meeting with the King

Aerys sighed as he watched the black haired mage scan the book that was sitting on the desk. The prince had to admit that this guild mage was handsome, and for some reason the mage was fit. Like he could either wield magic or a sword, not that Aerys was complaining. But this the man was getting in his way. He had research to do, and he will not have Cullen reporting to his father.

So, I guess he’s getting tied up. The price smirked as he stalked towards his prey.

--

“So, the prince as finally started to search for the girl.” An old woman whispered to her pet as it slithered across the stone floor while she spied on Aerys. “Maybe I should help him out. What do you think Jaden?” The only answer she got was a hiss, but she smiled as she walked to the other side of the cave. “Your right. The young prince is more focused on the man he tied up in his chambers.”

The old crone scanned through her books before grabbing the oldest one there. While she flipped through the pages, she couldn’t help but think that soon the King of Avith would be dead. A smile formed on her lips when she found what she was looking for.

--

Dude, I was so thirsty! And we had to use the last of the water for the car, which didn’t even help. “I hate your car.”

“Shut up! And could you look in the tool box for a wrench?” Devon asked while still poking at the engine. “Also, tell Lila and Zane that I almost have it fixed.”

“But you don’t.” I pointed out before even standing up.

“We know that, but they don’t and I don’t wanna hear them.” He paused and wiped some sweat off his brow. “Besides, they’re annoying enough as it is. I wish they would get into a fight or something so me and you could have some peace.”  Sadly enough I had to agree with him.

It’s not as if I don’t like Zane, I just don’t know the guy. And I don’t want to know him because he ruined this weekend! Him and Lila both!  The sad thing is Lila knew that I wanted to spend time with Devon, alone. But what did she do, she went and got a boyfriend that wants to double date! He just wants to get in the show for free, and tell everyone that he’s friends with ‘Dancing Shadows’ drummer.

“I have a better idea. How about we make them walk to the gas station we saw three miles back?” Devon paused for a moment before smiling at me.

“You know I love you Alix.”

“Love you too.” So, I get off my lazy a*s and walk towards the couple just as they started smoking on a joint. How can they smoke that s**t? It tastes awful. “Sooo….You know that in a few hours or so that the two of you are going to get the munchies.”

“Where are you going with this Alix?” Lila eyed while she handed the joint to the groupie.

“Well, since you asked. We were wondering if you and Zane could walk to the gas station we saw three miles back.” Please no yelling! Please say you will!

“Sure.” Yes! I love you Lila!

“Great. Now you two go have fun.” I pushed them down the road before going back to Devon, who was now beating the engine with the wrench I gave him. “That’s not going to help.” He glared at before as he hit the engine again.

“It should.” He pouted, and crossed his arms over his chest. I almost laughed, but decided to just walk over and give him a kiss. “That might help.” He smiled.

--

Aerys sighed as he walked into his chambers. It had been a long day, and he was still nowhere close to finding her. Though this morning had been good, he smiled when he thought of the warrior mage that was still tied to his bed.

“But Cullen will not help me find her.” He pushed the naked image of the spy out of his head. What he needed was to find the witch that took his twin from her crib, and force what he needed out of the crone.  Well, he’ll worry about that in the morning.

All thoughts of power were pushed from his mind when he pushed his bed hangings aside. Cullen laid there, with his hands tied above his head and his legs tied to the bed posts, looking up at the prince with puppy dog eyes. Well, Aerys could get Cullen to work for him.  That was the last coherent thought that Prince Aerys that night.

--

Well the good news is that the car’s fixed, apparently if one does beat it enough it comes back to life and the bad news is that Lila and Zane are sitting in the back of jeep. I wished we had some duck tape, because Zane just won’t shut up about tomorrow night. I just want to leave him on the side of the road and Lila can find a better guy at the show. Or some other club she might be going to.

“Zane!” I jumped when I hear Devon’s voice. “Shut up or I’m kicking you out!” Huh, it’s like he read my mind, I wonder how he did that. Not that I’m not thankful, I just wanna read minds too! Well, maybe just his mind, because our other friends are weird.

The rest of the ride was peaceful with rock music flowing though the speakers, and I even think Lila was happy that her current boyfriend of the month had fallen asleep, because she was happily texting away on her phone with a small smile on her face…That is until she caught me looking at her.

“What?” She whispered, with her eyebrow raised.

“Do you really wanna know?” She nodded her head. “ I think you hate your boyfriend and that  you’re going to leave him before the show so you can go hit in over mens.”

“I hate you.” Was all she said while Devon laughed.

--

“Well, my dear. The young princess will be back before midnight tomorrow.” The old witch smiled as she watched the prince have his way with his father’s spy.

Have you just woke up and had this feeling that something bad was going to happen? I hate those feelings, and I had this one since before I went to sleep last night. So, I’m trying to figure out what could go wrong between now and the end of Devon’s set. And there’s a lot that can go wrong.

“Alix, chill. Nothing is going to happen.” Devon kissed the top of my forehead before putting on his shirt. “Hell, if anyone should be feeling what you’re feeling it should be me.” He joked, and moved away before I could smack him. The jerk.

“You did take Zane’s free pass, because I’m not dealing with him.” Yeah, we finally got rid of the groupie. It was for his own safety though, because we all were going to kill him. I guess he just couldn’t handle being friends with a semi-famous drummer. Or he could just be crazy like that all the time.

“Yes and now we have an extra pass.”

“You know what! We could give it away as a prize or something like that.” I laid down and watched him flip his drum sticks up in the air. I wonder how any of those are going to end up under some weirdo’s pillows.  I shivered at the thought and then pushed it far, far back of my mind.

“We could.” He tossed the sticks on the bags before leaning over me.

--

“Sire” Aerys flipped the page ignoring the messenger as he entered the room. “A letter.” That caught his attention, usually most letters went to his father or mother.

“Give it here.” He took the letter and sent the boy away.  For a moment Aerys eyed the letter. Not wanting to open it just in case it help some kind of poison inside of it. Finally, he broke the seal and read the contents of the note. By the end of it the prince was smiling like it was his birthday.

Now he had to find something that will keep Cullen busy for the night. Aerys was pretty sure he couldn’t tie the man up again, though he didn’t think that Cullen would mind. But he couldn’t take that risk again.

--

The old woman waited patiently for the young prince to step out of the castle walls, she could only imagine what the prince was doing to his new lover, though Prince Aerys would never call any one his lover. The prince was just too cold hearted for that, it would take someone a long time to even put a crack in the icy shield around his heart.

“So, you’re the one who took her. I never thought you would be so old.” A voice came from behind the woman, breaking her of her thoughts.

“And who would have thought that the Prince of Azith would have to sneak around his own home.”  She turned around and looked into his icy blue eyes. Most people would have to look away from those cold eyes, and sadly to say the old witch was one of those people.

She knew that the boy in front of her was powerful, but she never thought that his magic would be as cold as he is. Though this is why his sister was born. To balance him out, I just hope that the girl isn’t hotheaded.

“Well, what are you waiting on?” The prince glared, apparently he didn’t have time to waste.

“Come on then. We must reach the cave before she does.” The witch walked away, knowing that the royal mage would be following.

They walked in silence for a few moments, with the prince trying to figure out how to word his questions.

“Why did you take her? And why are you now helping he find her?” Aerys asked not caring if he sounded like a whiny child.

“Because ye father. He would have used the two of you as weapons. Taking away your souls.” She paused letting him take in the information she told him. “As for helping you, it is time for the King to die and another take his place.”

By then they had entered the forest and stepped off the trail. The prince just followed the old crone, not sure of why he trusted her. But he did, and she was right about one thing his father needed to die. Though he knew it would take time to convince his sister of this, but he hoped that she’ll see what their father had become.

--

“I’ll be back!” I yelled over the music, letting Lila know so she won’t freak out.

After seeing her nod, I slid off the bar stole and slowly made my way to the restroom. Dozen people and a drink offer later I finally slipped into the multi-person bathroom and made my way towards the sinks. While turning on the cold water I look at myself in the mirror, and I’ve got to say I look how I feel; which is crap. Ever since the first half of Devon’s set I’ve been feeling dizzy, and now I feel like I just wanna pass the f**k out.  God, I hope I’m not getting sick. I hate laying in bed all day feeling lick a sick dog.

“Yo, chica. You feeling alright.” Why won’t the room stop spinning? I think I’m going to pass out.

And the next thing I knew I’m falling on the floor and my world went black.
