Chapter ThreeA Chapter by SamanthaOh s**t... cats outta the bag now.... Well, the vampire out of the coffin.... Where did that rumor even come from in the first place? i mean seriously, coffins? EW. I LIKE my bed. Chapter Three I sighed in relief when Alex finally left. I quickly ran through the house and cracked all the windows, hoping to drain my house of the smell of sweet blood. I quickly changed into a new outfit, thankful for tanktops on the more frequent hot summer nights. I grabbed a small wad of cash and stuck it in my pocket before leaving. Thankfully, I found dinner quickly. I drank and wiped my mouth of the blood. I rummaged through the poor soul’s pockets and found a hundred dollars and some loose change. I stuffed it in my pocket and smiled. I took my time heading back to the house. The moon was almost leaving the sky by the time I got back. I stepped inside my house and sat in my living room just as the sun began to shine. I heard footsteps come up the stairs and I smiled as Alex walked into the room. He set down a giant box on the coffee table and I smiled. “I don’t exactly have a guest room, but the couch does fold out into a bed” Alex shrugged. “That’s fine. I guess it’s better than the floor at the bar” My eye brows creased. “You were living at the bar?” He nodded. “Sad, huh? This will be the first bed I’ve slept on in I don’t know how long” I shrugged and smiled. Alex shivered and walked over to the window. “I hope its ok if I-” He opened the blinds and sunlight filled the room. I hissed and yelled and fell to the floor in pain. The blinds closed. My arm was burnt the worst. I looked down to see the damage and I quickly looked away. “God damn it!” I felt tears slide down my face and I hissed in pain. Alex stood against the wall across from me, shock filling his face. “You… You have fangs!” “Yes I have fangs, you idiot!” I hissed again and let more tears fall. I whimpered quietly, waiting for the burn to heal. “I hate burns. I hate burns. I hate burns” I began chanting to myself quietly while laying on the floor in agony. Have you ever burnt yourself on the stove, and it hurt so bad for so long? Yeah, well, that was nothing compared to this. My dad used to tell me how it hurt so much because it was healing; like it was a remote fast forwarding. All the pain happened at once, and when it did it was excruciating. Alex looked down at me. He ran out of the room and I cussed to myself. To my surprise, he came back in with a dripping wet towel. Alex walked towards me cautiously but quickly. He grabbed my hand and held it out straight and then gently pressed the wet towel to the burn. I let my head sink to the floor as the pain began to fade. I cried for a few more moments before breathing in deeply. I looked up at Alex and he looked back down at me, shock still in his gaze. “You live by yourself in an abandoned house, you have no food in your house, you only leave at night, you had fangs for a minute, and the sun just burnt you… Are you what I think you are?” I sat up and Alex shrunk away. I closed my eyes and sighed, wondering what to do next. Alex sat down a little ways from me. “Are you gonna… Kill me?” “No… People would notice if you went missing” “Aren't you gonna threaten me? If I tell people what you are, you’ll be killed” “I know” Alex just sat there and starred at me. I looked down at my arm and removed the towel, showing my scarred skin. I held out my arm and watched as the scars disappeared, slowly blending to match my skin color. I let another tear fall, knowing I messed up and now I would have to pay the consequences for it. Alex is going to head straight toward his dad… I’m done… I’m done. Alex looked over at me, still shocked. “So, the eye thing… Is that something vamps do?” “Yeah. Some humans can do it, just not as obvious as ours” It was quiet again and I looked up at Alex. “Are you going to kill me?” Alex began to laugh. I gave him a curious look. “What?” “You think I’m going to kill you? I’m more worried about you killing me!” “Well, you’re the one that used to live with a vampire hunter” Alex stopped laughing. “Oh, s**t! Ok, whatever you do, do not let my dad know you exist. Even if you’re pretending to be human, don’t let him see you” “So… Your not gonna like, attack me with silver or anything?” “As long as you don’t try to sink your fangs into me” “I recommend you sleep with garlic, then” “Won’t it hurt you?” “No, it’s just annoying” “Please do something about your damn lip!” “Oh! Sorry!” He quickly covered it with his hand and I couldn’t help but laugh. “I can still smell it” Alex gave me a curious look. “Is that why you saved me and offered me a place to stay?” I looked down at my hand. “I just smelt you and for some reason I was attracted to you. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s never happened before. I wanted to kill you, but I didn't at the same time” “My dad has a name for that, I don’t remember it. It means I smelt like a free turkey dinner” “No, well… You definantly smell good, just I know the rules” “Rules?” He raised one eyebrow at me and I shook my head. “I shouldn’t be telling you all this” “Why not?” “Well, let’s see the obvious ones. Number one, I’ve never spoke to a human since I became a vamp unless I was planning on killing them so I’m not exactly best with words. Number two, your father is a vampire hunter. Does that need spelling out?” “Oh, so you think I'm gonna tell my dad to kill you?” “Precisely” Alex laughed. “No, I wouldn’t do that simply because I’m mad at him right now and you didn't kill me when you had several chances to; even when I smelt like food” I laughed and he continued. “So what do you mean by rules? Are vampires makers handing down books or something?” “No, actually my father fell in love with a human and they had me. I didn't turn vampire until I was thirteen” “Did he turn you?” “No. I don’t know what it was. It just happened” “Well who turned him?” “No one, he was cursed by a demon lord” “What?” “Ok, do you want to know the rules or not” “Yes I do” “Ok. My dad taught me a lot, and the number one thing is of course, don’t get caught. The second one is, avoid our dangers. The third is to only kill those who are dieing, suffering, or don’t have much to live for” Alex was quiet for a minute. “That’s why you asked if I had family” “Well at the time you were also bleeding, so please take that into consideration. Usually I’m wonderful around humans, just not when their bleeding or when they smell like… You” Alex looked at me carefully. “What do I smell like?” “A few things… Kinda like peach schnapps, chocolate, sweat, and lust” “Lust? How do I smell like lust?” “Vamps place feelings with scents and if it’s another vamp, eye color” “Your eyes change with your mood?” “Yes” It was quiet again and I stood up. “I need to sleep. Your welcome to make yourself at home here or you can leave if you want. Just please don’t attack me when I’m sleeping. If your gonna kill me, let me know its coming because it hurts less that way” “Why would I kill you?” “Because I kill people to survive” “So? You can’t help it. Lions kill gazelle and zebra; it’s part of life” “Well your dad doesn’t hunt lions, he hunts vamps. I have to sleep now. I’ll see you at dusk” “So you don’t mind if I stay here?” “No. Like I said, don’t attack me in my sleep” “What does silver do to you?” I sighed and looked at him. “I don’t know, and I don’t want to. My dad just told me to never touch it unless I wanted a serious world of hurt” I stood up and began to walk out of the room but stopped midway as he spoke again. “What about the whole stake theory?” I turned around and looked at him. “Listen, if your planning on killing me, tell me now” He smiled. “No, I’m just curious” “Ask your dad” I began to leave again. “My dad is wrong” I stopped and looked at him as he continued. “He thinks your all uncontrollable monsters that have no hearts, and he’s wrong” “You barley know me, Alex. I could be lieing” “But your not” “How do you know?” “Because if you were, I wouldn’t be alive right now” He sighed. “You can sleep now… Do you have a coffin?” “No, I have a bed like a normal person. Any more questions?” “I’m sorry. I’ll bug you later. Night. Or good morning. Which ever” “Night” I smiled as I walked into my bedroom and shut the door behind me. I quickly pulled on a nightgown and crawled into bed before falling asleep. I woke to a clank. Something was making a huge noise in the living room. I quickly bolted into it only to see Alex trying to push the bed back into the couch. I laughed. “You can just leave it out” Alex looked over at me and smiled. His eyes widened as he gazed at my night gown and I realized I’d forgotten my robe. I hid behind the wall and he cleared his throat. “Sorry” “It’s my fault. Uh, just leave the couch pulled out, it doesn’t matter. I usually don’t use my living room unless my dad visits on a rare occasion” “Don’t you have like, vampire friends or something?” I smiled. “No. Just me” “Well don’t you get lonely?” “Sometimes, but I get over it. I’m alive and I’m grateful for that, so why complain about something so little like a lack of company?” Alex nodded. “I guess that’s one way to look at it” “I uh, am gonna go get dressed. I’ll be right back” He nodded and I ran back to my room and quickly pulled on some jeans and a random shirt before heading back to the living room. The blinds were now open and the moon shone in. Alex gave me a look. “I doubt you have a microwave” “Sorry. Your gonna have to get fast food or something” “Speaking of food, when do you eat?” I smiled. “After your gone” “Well, do you bring it home or what?” “Usually their hobos that cant move, so no” “Do they ever yell or anything?” “Well, they have to know your gonna kill them” “Most of them think I’m a hooker or something so they think I’m gonna kiss them and I don’t, and that’s their last thought. End of subject” “But-” I glared at Alex and he smiled. “Ok” “Go to work, you can ask more questions when you get back” “Ok” Alex soon left and I left quickly afterwards. My recent luck ran out and my meal took longer to find. I finally finished and was almost at my door when I ran into Alex. “Jeesh, you scared me!” He laughed. “I’m sorry! How was dinner?” I shot him a look before looking around to make sure no one was within ear shot. “Average” He smiled and waved his arms at the boarded up door. “After you” “Thank you” Several weeks passed and I grew closer and closer to Alex; and he grew closer to me, too. I found myself liking him more every night and my fears of him staking me grew less every day. By now we had shared just about everything we could possibly think of with eachother. We both knew eachothers life stories in explicit detail and I began to trust him more than I had trusted anyone before. © 2010 SamanthaAuthor's Note
